  1. Not comic books I know, and probably more relevant for a non-sports card blog, but collecting all 9 of the Doctor Strange related cards in the "Superhero Squad Trading Card Game" is next to impossible... so I thought I'd share. These are actual cards based on online video game versions and very few people have even heard that the game has been released in "physical" form, let alone have been collecting them. A big thank you to a young man named Scott Johnson for helping me gather the last few of these I needed. Getting two of these cards from him was the first sale he ever made online! (Don't worry, I sent the kid a bunch of extra stuff for helping me out!)
  2. For anyone who missed this in the "This Week In Your Collection" thread over the weekend... I had posted in a previous post in this thread about getting 7 issues of the Ediciones Vertice Dr. Extrano series, and was actively looking for the other 7 when I found an auction offering the entire run. Since these are very rare, I decided to go for it. So here's the whole series! (Each book was wrapped so nicely in plastic I decided not to remove it when I did the scans, so some books might show some glare.) Some of these books are in lower condition than the ones I had gotten previously, so if anyone is looking to buy my under copies, PM me! Finally, also from Spain, another cover not published in America:
  3. My biggest comic purchase of the year arrived from Spain yesterday. I had posted in a previous post about getting 7 issues of the Ediciones Vertice Dr. Extrano series, and was actively looking for the other 7 when I found an auction offering the entire run. Since these are very rare, I decided to go for it. So here's the whole series! (Each book was wrapped so nicely in plastic I decided not to remove it when I did the scans, so some books might show some glare.) Finally, also from Spain, another cover not published in America:
  4. This piece of mine will be going up at a giant group show in Los Angeles opening this Friday:
  5. As you can see, Creepy Worlds also reprinted Strange Tales issues alongside the FF. Here's one from my collection...
  6. Collecting everything Dr. Strange includes finding foreign printings of the Dr. Strange comics first published in America. Especially appealing to me are covers that are unique to that country and not just the original cover with a logo in a different language (although I have many of those as well!) Some of the hardest ones to find are issues of the vintage Doctor Extrano series that was published in Spain from publisher Ediciones Vertice. The series ran 14 issues and featured original art on the covers never published in the USA. A few were painted re-creations of the American covers done by unknown Spanish artists, others were original works, and all of them had that surreal beauty that made these things one of my grails to track down in the last few years. These books are rare as hen's teeth, even in Spain. I've never seen one ever listed on eBay, and when my friend visited Barcelona two years ago, he found one copy of one issue in a comic shop and the owner wanted £200 for it. I told him to pass. Luckily, this year I finally managed to track some down and got 7 issues! A BIG thanks to ISComics on these boards for helping me find some! Their condition wasn't mint, but that's not super important to me. They all have black and white interiors and measure about 8 inches long and 6 inches wide. They look a little like early Manga comics in size and binding actually... So, without further ado... A gallery of DOCTOR EXTRANO! I also found some reprints of the second solo Dr. Strange series published by Mundi Comics: Finally, a more recent Spanish reprint of the Strange Tales series from the 90's. This one uses the cover from the "Dr. Strange: Through The 6 Dimensions" book, which has never been used on any comic in the US:
  7. Variants... Good thing Dr. Strange only appears in them infrequently. Otherwise I'd be broke!
  8. Got this right on Christmas Eve! I love foreign covers that were never published in America, and this one from the UK reprints the Ditko classic from Amazing Spider Man Annual #2:
  9. Some British Dr. Strange weekly black and white reprints. Never saw these particular issues before and was glad to get them cheap: And the back cover (which is a prototype for the Dr. Strange calendar Marvel put out in 1980):
  10. I linked to my picture before on these boards, but my site now has a neat Flash navigation feature so I figure I'd post again for anyone who hasn't seen it before: THE PICTURE OF EVERYTHING
  11. weird. i have that same comic w/double cover unslabbed. Double covers are usually a result of errors at the printing press, so seeing a few copies of the same title and issue is not so... strange...
  12. A few questions for Ian. I apologize if any have already been answered in the past: 1. Do you have a favorite single issue in the collection? A favorite story? 2. Any chance we can get you to post your top 10 favorite DC covers? (or at least list them) 3. How many comics do you end up reading each week? Do you pick a few golden age, silver age and moderns to go through each day or do you go through periods where you read through an entire run? 4. Is there any DC horror story you can think of that compares to EC's? 5. What DC title would you like to see made into a movie that hasn't already?
  13. If I had ten million dollars of disposable income I would make Ian an offer on his collection. I bet he could get more actually. People have bought a whole lot less for a whole lot more.
  14. Truly one of the greatest feats in the history of comic book collecting. A testament to dedication and the thrill of the hunt that only fellow obsessive collectors can understand. The DC quest was one of the truly fascinating things about these boards that got me inspired to take my Doctor Strange collection to the point it has gotten to. Seeing posts of rare giveaways once again makes me hope that Ian sticks around for a while.
  15. Fantastic! A great book and possibly one of the only existing copies in that grade. Congratulations!
