  1. Soooo.. finally got around to watching this with my wife yesterday.  Overall, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be based on the comments I've seen here.

Were there some bad parts?  Oh yes!

    Spoiler

Did not care for the Cole character at all.  I understand it was the mechanism to somehow bring Scorpion back, but was not great at all.

Having to find their arcana?  Ok.  But, Jax finds his and it provides him new arms?  Really?  I can understand find the power to shoot fireballs or a laser beam or whatever, but new arms?  Same for Cole, he gets a new armor shirt that absorbs energy or something?  And also provides new weapons? And a burst of brand new energy and healing as he got his beat by Goro.

    I did like seeing

    Spoiler

    Kabal

Christopher Lambert will always be my Raiden.  :) The glory eyes thing didn't work for me at all.

Overall, wasn't horrible.  Was watchable.  Went in with low expectations, and those expectations were met.

  2. I really don't know how I feel about this.  There is no "GI Joe" feel to this at all.  It's a ninja movie. Which is fine and would have no issues if that is all this was.  Once again, they are redefining GI Joe characters and taken away a good chunk of what made them who they are and what made them loved by so many.

    Color me disappointed.

Will I watch it?  Of course.  Just may not be at the theater.

Sorry, I meant I'm aching to watch the show so bad.

I'm so anti-Amazon, I won't pay for it.  This has SUPER challenged it.

If someone you know has it and can ADD you to their household (they can add 1), you can access to the Amazon Prime Video as well.

There are 144 issues, and some of them do very little to move the plot forward, or they create branches of stories that never go anywhere... but compare that to 60+ years of Marvel books or 80+ of D.C., and there's very little to complain about anywhere in the Invincible run.  Contrast that with Walking Dead, or as some have called it, "People Complaining And Sometimes Zombies Show Up".   Same creator, go figure.

Have you read any of the other stuff?  Like Invincible Universe or Invincible Returns?  I haven't had a chance to see if any of these are worth the read yet.

‘Invincible’ Renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 at Amazon

Invincible” has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 at Amazon.

The announcement was made on Thursday on Twitter by Robert Kirkman alongside Steven Yeun, who voices the show’s main character. The news comes ahead of the Season 1 finale, which will debut on Amazon on April 30.

“I’m extremely thankful to Amazon for the support and dedication they’ve put behind Invincible,” Kirkman said in a separate statement. “The comic book is truly a love letter to a genre that Cory (Walker) and I grew up reading and loving, and it’s been a gratifying journey to watch our characters come to life again through the animated series. We’re beyond excited to continue this story for at least two more seasons.”

The hour-long adult animated series is based on the Skybound/Image comic of the same name by Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley. It revolves around 17-year-old Mark Grayson (Yeun), who’s just like every other guy his age — except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.

Along with Yeun and Simmons, the voice cast also includes: Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Zachary Quinto, Mahershala Ali, Melise, Kevin Michael Richardson, Grey Griffin, Khary Payton, and more.

“Invincible” is produced by Skybound and executive produced by Kirkman, Simon Racioppa, David Alpert, and Catherine Winder. Jeff Allen is supervising director and Linda Lamontagne serves as casting director.

  6. I am loving the series too.  Must faster pace than the books, from what I can recall.  Lots of tweaks.

My wife keeps asking me "why did Omni-man do that?"... which I have to keep saying "wait and see" :)

I knew there would be some level of gore with the fights, but didn't think it would be so spot on with the books.

I re-read (compendiums) the whole series in advance of this series coming out.  Glad I did as it is fun identifying the differences between the TV series and the source.

In a new interview with Variety, actor Joe Taslim revealed that he’s signed on for four more Mortal Kombat sequels to portray the iconic villain Sub-Zero, if Warner Bros. decides to move forward with the franchise. With the news coming days before the film is scheduled to premiere this week, it seems that Warner Bros. is hopeful that Mortal Kombat will finally break the curse of poor video game adaptations and launch a new series for the studio.

Taslim broke the news during his appearance on the Just for Variety podcast, saying "if this one’s successful, maybe we do more." He also spoke on his relationship with the legendary game franchise, which began when he was just 12 years old:

“I was born in South Sumatra. We were poor so I didn’t have the console because it’s expensive. I went to my friend’s house every day to play the game. But you get there and there are like 10 kids lining up. Who wins keeps playing…so it takes me to get to my part like 40 minutes.”

Actors signing on for multiple films before studios even know the success of the first film is nothing new in Hollywood. Marvel is well known for signing its MCU actors to multiple-film deals before their first appearance on screen in case their character is needed for future productions.

If Mortal Kombat turns out to be a hit at the box office, it makes sense that Warner Bros. would want to lock in the actor behind its most important character, Sub-Zero, to a long-term deal — especially one that is reportedly so good at martial arts stunts that he not only terrified the crew, but had to be asked to slow down his moves so they could be captured on-camera.

Mortal Kombat is set to release in theaters and HBO Max this Friday, April 23.

I've been piecing the set together over the past 2-3 years. Cleaned out my locals, and picked off a few ebay lots here and there, it's been fun. Officially, I only need 154 and 9 to complete the 155 issue Marvel set. And I need 18 and 19 to complete Special Missions. There are a couple I'd like to upgrade condition on, 16 and 38 come to mind. And a handful of the early ones are in the 2nd printing with the black Spidey instead of the barcode or white Spidey, so I keep my eyes peeled for those as well.

I have a ton of doubles, including quite a few high numbers, even some extras in the 150s, but the only one I have that's on your list is 52. Sorry, homie.

Seems to be a lot of us collecting Joes.  I am trying to re-collect the collection I sold 15 years ago :( .

If you are willing to sell some of those high numbers, PM and see if we can come to a deal.

  9. Netflix Inks Deal for Rights to Sony Movies, Including Coming ‘Spider-Man’ Films

Netflix Inc. has reached a multiyear agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment for domestic streaming rights to the studio’s theatrical movies, the companies said Thursday.

The deal will start with Sony Pictures’ 2022 movie slate. As part of the pact, Netflix will have a first-look option to pick up movies Sony is making or licensing specifically for streaming platforms. Netflix has committed to ordering an undisclosed number of those films, the streaming giant said.

Among the releases that will land on Netflix after their theatrical runs are future “Spider-Man” movies and other films based on Marvel characters that Sony has the rights to, including Morbius and Venom. Netflix will also license older movies from Sony’s library. Sony Pictures Entertainment is a unit of Sony Group Corp.

Terms of the five-year deal weren’t disclosed. People familiar with the deal said it would be worth several hundred million dollars annually and more than $1 billion over the course of the agreement. The precise figure will depend, in part, on the box office performance of the films. The Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. -owned pay-TV channel Starz has rights to Sony movies through the end of this year.

Getting access to Marvel titles was a key incentive for Netflix, which is no longer getting fresh Marvel content from Walt Disney Co. as those movies and TV shows moved to the Disney+ streaming service.

This might be the movie of the year for me.  Huge MK fan ever since the first when I first played it on Sega Genesis.  I remember going to the arcades and battling it out with other gamers. My player of choice has always been Scorpion.  Simple moves, loving the spear and his fatalities, he was bad*ss!  Those were some fun times.  Really can't wait for this movie!

Same.  Loved going to the arcade with a few dollars and spending hours kicking .  Scorpion was my favorite, too. With Kitana as a close second. Liu Kang was my least favorite, but seem to be a favorite of a lot of my competitors.

Even bought this for my PS3.

  11. Watched it and enjoyed it.  Was very entertaining.  Fight scenes were awesome.  The damage and death toll would be enormous.  Would agree Kong had lots of moments to see his emotions and character. Godzilla, not so much.

    Did have one question though.

    Spoiler

Where was the light coming from when they were in the Hallow Earth?  There was no explanation of that.  There's just light?

I got this Hildebrandt Brothers painting that was used for a lithograph and I was pretty certain blondie is Duke...and then I started reading Marvel G.I. Joe and now I’m sitting here thinking...spoon is that Hawk? Early Hawk looks way too much like Duke.

I’d still assume it’s Duke but seeing Scarlett and Snake Eyes running around with Hawk in the early issues I’m still a little 🤷‍♂️.

Pretty sure that is Duke.  But can understand the uncertainty.  In the early books, they did look a lot a like as they both did have the blonde hair.  Later Hawk was portrayed with brown hair (IIRC).

That is still a cool painting!!

  13. Watched the first two episodes and liking what've seen so far.  I have read the original series (twice) and, maybe I'm not remembering it correctly, but I don't remember Omni-man being as much of a in the beginning?  Or maybe it's part of the accelerated version for the series.  Either way, I agree in that it captures the feel of the source material.

Wife is already trying to figure out why certain things happened and I am doing my best to not spoil it for her.  :) Which is hard to do.
