Well I was consistent…under graded all 5.  Definitely some GA grading leeway given to that Batman, right? Thanks @CGC Mikefor all your hard work!

I did the same. What tripped me up was the turtles book with the note on the corner crease.  Working off the grading guides (heritage/overstreet), there's a line that specifically talks about a corner crease under the 8.0 grade ("An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken.") so I went with that.  In looking at the scores on that book, seems a few others also followed the same standard.  CGC seems to me more lenient with that specific type of defect.

This round closed Sunday night 8:00 PM eastern time.  I will reveal the actual grades of these books in their holders shortly after that.  The results for this round will be posted the next day, and round 2 will most likely start Monday night.  If I get 150 PM's with grades the last minute, it will cause a delay.  If not, things will happen a little sooner.

Two days in an all of us probably owe you a drink for the overhead :)

I don't know if I'm going to have time to list much more this weekend.....Those of you who have purchased books are welcome to wait until I list more, or if you prefer to settle up on what you have so far, just send me a DM.

I'll wait for the next batch.  Looking forward to it!

I actually bid earlier on that mag. Had a max price that was much lower than $595. Next increment was $645 and thought about it but backed out. Just felt I was reaching on that but 🤷🏻

Not sure if it’s a general trend up or a few of us new buyers trying to get some Frazetta covers.

It'll be interested to see if the Frazetta covers start selling for premiums, particularly after the Eerie 23 buzz around this time last year.  Maybe people are starting to catch onto mags, particularly Frazetta books?

I have spent the last year being impressed by just how much money people have to spend. I have also spent the last year being mystified in equal levels. I am just struggling to come to terms with new pricing levels. Great books, beautiful copies but at these prices my collection would have (3) books in it rather than 100s and I am happier with 100's.

    Struggling with those same questions.

What do you like: The Buyer's Premium? 1-2 month delays for them to ship?  The credit card and Paypal surcharge? The condescending customer service assuming they even answer a call or email?  How they brag about how much money they rake in from buyers? The fact that the head of the operation has been tied to fraud multiple times since he was 13 years old

Apologies for my uncalled for sarcasm but you may be in the minority that feels positive about them?   If collectors of collectibles were not so stupid they woudl have been out of biz decades ago. However collectors are that stupid was so Heritage thrives

I believe he was referencing MyComicShop (MCS), not Heritage.

As far as I am aware in Texas the practice is legal.  One of the multitude of reasons I no longer bid on anything they offer.

Do they do it on every item?  I doubt it, but they could if they so desire.

What I do find interesting is that MCS (based in Arlington TX) lists their own books at auction, but their website indicates if it's an mcs book or a consigned book.  So bidder are informed where the book is coming from.  Final sale prices at auction seem to be more in-line with what is expected.  Such a reputable company.  That's how you create goodwill.

I think the allegation is they are bidding on their own books to buoy the rest of the collectible comic market. Something I have heard for years now. Since we don’t know the buyers or sellers no one can prove or disprove this.

Just wondering if this has been going on all along, wouldn’t some disgruntled/former  employee blow this sham operation up? Have I missed that part (yes- I know about the 80s coin thing, and saw the video on WATA)? And if this is happening, is it criminal?

Got it.  And yes, I have heard some chatter about this specific issue - some of the auction houses bidding up their own books.  So if that were the case, the motivation would be to artificially inflate the market, thus providing larger commissions to those same auction houses when cosigned books sell for those new elevated prices at future auctions.  Considering the insane run up with the AF 15s recently, I wonder if that's what may be happening here?

In the state in which they operate the Auction House is permitted to bid on auctions. Of course the Auction House is aware of the amount of placed bids.  The fix is totally and legally (in the State in which they are charted) in for their auctions if they choose it to be on any individual lot.

So are you saying they are bidding up their books that they own and have listed for auction, or consigned books that they are interested in owning?  Or both?  If their bid is the final high bid on a consigned book, then I get that.  However, if it's already their book and they win it, all that does is artificially inflate the price since they aren't paying themselves to keep the book.  It just remains in the inventory.  Am I missing something here?

If I were to venture a guess, I'd say new collectors seeing the headlines about comics being sold for large amounts of money, and established collectors cashing in and/or branching out into new segments.  Maybe high or highest in grade books being offered are lifting the tide for the lesser copies.  We all witnessed the most recent SA value climb, and GA could be catching up a bit.

No idea.  Could be the fine art people moving into comics, but I still think dumping 20k into a book is a lot of money.  Now many of these books are dropping for high 5 figures.  That's still quite a large sum of cash.  50k is a downpayment on a house or a fully loaded SUV purchased outright.

    whoa ... this escalated quickly. Giant Comics Edition #6 (St. John, 1949) CGC FN+ 6.5 Off-white to | Lot #15431 | Heritage Auctions (ha.com)

was going to upgrade from my lowly copy but, oh well.

and this too.   Phantom Lady #13 (Fox, 1947) CBCS FN 6.0 Off-white to white | Lot #97194 | Heritage Auctions

    such nice copies

Generally, the way the comic market recently it's as if like a whole bunch of people are playing with monopoly money. Now where do I get some? am I the only who missed on bitcoin ...lol

I'm still trying to figure out where all the money has come from.  If anyone can shed light on this issue, do share!

was crypto money flowing in at some point?  From almost everyone I know and follow in the crypto space, I've never seen anyone mention anything other than NFTs or the latest Bored Ape meme or equivalent.  Maybe they are cashing out of NFTs and getting into traditional collectibles such as comics, but again, no one I know or follow. They are obsessed with NFTs.

Yes, that was on another thread (I forget exactly where) a while back.  One or two mentioned using crypto profits to buy books.  I'm just wondering if we're now at the point where the fractional shares companies are the ones who are going after these books, and are driving the prices?

After seeing this result here, it makes me wonder if Halperin has the fingers on both of his hands working overtime on this book here:

    Modern Age (1980-Present):Superhero, Daredevil #168 (Marvel, 1981) CGC NM/MT 9.8 White pages....

To each their own, but why in the world would anybody in their right or wrong mind pay $13,200 for this book when there's already a total of 260 copies slabbed to date in this equivalent CGC highest grade.  Especially since this is a relatively common as dirt book in grade as it was pretty much hoarded by all of the collectors back in the day when it first came out. :screwy:

Any bets that there's going to be a ton of copies of this book being sent into CGC for grading after this result, which will go a long way to stuffing their coffers to overflowing.  Which reminds me that I really really do need to get around to fnding my copies so that I can send in at least a couple of them to get the fresh looking inks squished squashed right out of the pages before they get moved over to the next room for grading.  :wishluck:    :whee:

I wonder how many of the fractional share companies are all piling in for these auctions, particularly on Heritage, just bidding on and buying up everything?  The 5.5 AF 15 realized a ridiculous price.  I'm still trying to figure out where all the money is coming from so this is simply another guess on my part.  Also, I'm wondering if the crypto money is still flowing in or are those guys trying to get out?  All highly confusing, and complete speculation on my part.
