Love this book. Would be a great upgrade from my 2.0 but not in the cards right now.

I essentially have been priced out of collecting. No more pre code, no more GA Tecs..
I hear ya. I have as well. I got back into collecting in 2011 and only recently (last few years) have started to go after minor keys and interesting books from the golden age. I've been able to grab some on my want list but in looking back, I went about this all wrong. With reintroducing myself in 2011, I started on bronze and some silver, only moving into GA later on. If I could have a do over, I'd have grabbed GA and silver keys back then, and saved everything else for now. Honestly, it took me a long time to truly appreciate GA, and now that I have, I've been mostly priced out. My bad.

Sorry no HOS 91.
Man, a decent copy of that one is so elusive.

You have a copy of HoS 91? That's the one I need for my run.

Great job with your recent magazine sales thread. Books arrived in a timely manner and were firmly secured in the packaging. Excellent!

ASM 300 direct
9.8 = 10,000
9.6 = 3,000
9.4 = 1,950
9.2 = 1,450
9.0 = 1,300
Is that GC's FMV values or the actual most recent sales data? In my opinion, the FMV number is useless..

Jordan rookies with a 300-400 pop in PSA 10 have sold dozens of times for $200k-750k. Why not for a unicorn in grade like this?
Please don't take my non-shock as endorsement though. I think this market is completely insane, totally inflated and irrational. Just not shocked anymore.
Yeah, I tend to agree with you. 9.8 is an entirely different beast these days. I think we've reached a point where a subgroup of collectors/investors just have to have the highest graded copy. A friend of a friend is one of those guys who collected as a kid and just got back into the hobby two years ago. He grew up on Masters of the Universe, Transformers, etc.. And he's one of those guys who just has to have 9.8 slabbed books. 9.6s? No. Lower grade solid investments from GA or SA? Not a chance. Granted, we're talking about a collector who will buy moderns in 9.8 for 1-2k a pop, so not a comparison here to the collectors who are going very big, as we just saw with the MS 5. But, I think there may be more of these "9.8 or bust" collectors out there than we think. Just my two-cents.

One of only four in 9.8...none higher.
Compare it to GS Xmen 1 (195 in 9.8), FF 48 (39 in 9.8), ASM 129 (146 in 9.8), Hulk 180 (50 in 9.8), hulk 181 (128 in 9.8 or higher), Silver Surfer 4 (24 in 9.8), TOD 10 (48 in 9.8 or higher), etc.
What would be interesting to see would be the number of incoming subs of spotlight 5s from this point forward.

I have a feeling this sale will ultimately set a new record for taking a bath on a book.
Damn, is the pull of having the highest graded copy of a book that strong? I could see it for a key GA book, but a bronze?

or 1/3 or so of what you paid in February 2021 for a 94 if you bought it 2-3 years ago
I'm still kicking myself for not ponying up an additional $200 for a 9.4 copy two years ago. The difference between a 9.2 and 9.4 now is ridiculous. No idea the spread would ever get that big.

I mean this constructively, but honestly, shouldn’t have you secured this stuff 2-3 years ago? The stuff I am buying now is an easy buy, because I’m not competing with anyone for it, which leaves more money to compete for stuff that is always on a want list. For example: Kraven stuff. You should already have the Zeck series secured, those are 4-figure books in a year.
Unfortunately, we can't buy everything although many of us would if we had unlimited capital. Personally, once I saw prices shooting up exponentially, I bailed out on many of my want list items and changed direction, working on other books that aren't currently being eyed by hundreds of others. The strategy has worked out pretty well thus far. Still, going forward, I probably will try to obtain some of those want list items via cash/trade deals rather than bidding on auction books.
