The idea that someone bought a $100+k book, pays a commission on it's future sale for the outside chance of making less than 1-2% based on previous sales after the amount risked does not seem believable to me - the person buying this book is not a collector, but an investor, who has a different mindset. Sure, there are dummies out there left and right, but I am wary to think someone with $100k to blow wouldn't do some sales research to at least give him some idea that he's buying near the top and his flip margin is razor thin, even worse since he's not holding for awhile.

I think something else is going on - what that is, I have no clue. I'm not going to elaborate or speculate.

This seems the most likely story.

To me, the vid is a result of a guy who has no idea how how either Clink or MCS works.  He's misleading people, plain and simple.

    Do they accept trades?

Contact them and let them know what you have for trade.  They will probably make you an offer or, give you $$$ on credit for your consignments, which you can apply towards the book.

The problem is that all grading scales said that FA/GA 1.5 with between 2" and 2/3 split of the spine.  The grading scales NEVER says about the age catagory (GA, SA, BA, MA).

I was torn between 1.8 to 2.5 but 3.0 on Wings with nearly half spine was split that flipped me.

Yep, I was thinking along the same lines with that spine split, and thus graded the book 1.8.  Eek.

I only got notification of the first round. I never saw grades of the first round. Can we say there are a lot of kinks in the workings of the contest

I haven't experienced any kinks.  The rules were pretty clear.  What helped was changing my follow preferences to follow the threads Mike created for the contest and receive notification when new content was posted.

I cannot speak for others but I hit that one for the back cover almost exclusively. Stacking/transport stuff is damage. That black cover needs to be black I think, not with any tiny specks. Every speck/rub counts, at least how I see it. Then again, I nailed this book and still got 13 points this round. I knew I was in trouble right away, I can eyeball a simple book well I think but know squat about the small details and how much they count

Yes, I've seen many a modern black cover with some minor color loss receiving that grade.  The slightly blunted corner at the top of the spine looks minor from the front, but the defect is more pronounced when looking at the back.

I'm too lazy to look for it, but I'm sure I saw that CGC stated a book cannot be over a 1.0 with a significant piece of the front cover missing!

Overstreet guidance says it's a 1.0 if 1/3 of the front cover is missing.  My initial impression was to go 1.5 but I went lower since I wasn't entirely sure how much CGC would detract for it.  I think 1.5 is spot on.

wow I was following over street grading standards I do recall when CGC started CGC used Overstreet over the years somehow grading has changed over the years. are those red label cgc s higher grades now ?   things have certainly changed when. a book with a minor fold is considered a 9.4 in the old days this would not be a 9.4.

I did the same thing.  Hoping that my 'adjustments' for round 2 yield better results :)

I way overgrazed that  batman #4

     my grades no bullseye

batman #4 6.5   I know I suck at gold age stuff

    Fight against crime #20 5.5

Fantastic four #50 7.5. ok on this one I did give it a .5 more because of the nice shiny cover . I saw a 8.0 no shiny cover.

Star Wars #1 9.2. on this one I did change it from 9.0

TMT#1 8.5     I was going by the note of the slight fold on the cover I can't see how this is a 9.4 with a fold ?

If CGC follows the overstreet grading standard, that TMNT is way overgraded.  However, they seem to be more lenient on books with a single minor defect than strict overstreet guidelines.  I followed the guide and graded that 8.0 so I hear ya.
