Great book. I'd put this in about the 5.0 range because of the  foxing and chipping.Front cover presents a very nicely though which helps the value if you are planning to sell it.

As far as pressing you should talk to someone with a ton of experience with this type of book. From the pictures it looks like the chipping is of the type you should not press but again it's hard to tell just from pictures and you should consult with someone like @joeypost who has a good reputation on the boards here.  Good luck and thanks for showing this awesome comic. (worship)

I agree with you.  I see some pressable defects but are there enough to warrant a bump in grade, say from 5.0 to 5.5?  I'm not entirely certain of that.  But yes, definitely speak with a presser who has lots of experience with GA books.  Great book!

I got the 6.0 on the first book but was a full 1.0 grade harsher on the others(I spent a lot of time comparing to my own graded books) and either things have become more lenient or I am losing my mind.
-iron man - soft corners, abraded edges, creasing and wear across the top?  9.2?  I had it at 8.5

-comet I was at 5.5 but waffled with a 6. The extra stain and the piece out got me lower

-HOS I saw spine stress lines and some wear that I wouldn’t have thought to see in 9.  I was at 8.0

-fear 10- I thought the abraded corners brought this down but clearly I just have to adjust my grading  I was a full point under on all the newer books  I had this at 7.5

this was a sad round of 8 points

Agreed.  Based on the cert numbers these books were all recently graded.  I'm thinking the same; that grading has gotten more lenient.  And that's what's confusing here.  The standard shouldn't change.  I have a few late 60s Marvels with similar (but lesser) corner and wear defects than the Iron Man 4 that are all 8.5 grades.

Wow. Rocket Squad a 6.0!?? :insane:

With that big bc tear, water-stains and thoroughly rusted staple??

    6.0!? :roflmao:

I was pretty harsh on shell-head, that lower spine corner-ding/crunch and color-loss across the top, put it at 7.5 for me.

The rest I was fairly close.

But really, that first one is terrible. meh

After seeing the grade on that book, I started thinking about sending my AF 15 down for regrading.

No one knows for sure on MJ reholder. You can see the insert from 3 edges, so it has been speculated that CGC may have not opened the inner well, but equally they may have.

This was discussed in detail 100-150 pages ago, the parts you didn't read.

Ah, my bad. Yes, I arrived late to the party (I think page 194 late) :)

I’m not saying that. The must have removed it from the well to confirm, but they wouldn’t regrade the book unless the outer case showed obvious signs of tampering.

That makes sense.  it would be great if someone from CGC could document the process they use for verification for these types of situations.  This would eliminate some of the guesswork and speculation.

I’m not in favor of automatically re-grading re-holders. They’d have to crack every book from the inner well, which subjects books to damage from the process. It’s also not smart for CGC because people won’t buy re-holders to get custom labels if you have to totally re-grade it.

Seems much better to design a better process/holder.

So basically, CGC took the submitter's word for it that the book was in fact a Mark Jewelers'.  That seems like a very bad business practice if you ask me, particularly because it would have implied that the submitter had to crack the book to verify the insert.  It should have raised at least one red flag at CGC, I would have thought.  Then again, it's a volume business, right?  Just move 'em out.

Was wondering this myself as I submitted two books earlier this year for reholder and was warned about the possibility of a grade drop. Both books were 9.8 White pages but were in the Gen 1 holders and I wanted to upgrade. They both came back 9.8 white so who knows if they were really regraded. Honest opinion is that both books deserve the 9.8. I am pretty sure CGC had to change the inner wells though because I believe I read that the Gen 1 inner well would not work with the new outer well. Sorry this doesn't answer the question but I think we can infer that CGC is not always concerned with regrading when the reholders get backlogged.

I can see setting this as a best practice would certainly eliminate the problem.

  8. Excuse my ignorance here.  I haven't submitted anything to CGC in the past five years so I'm sure things have changed, but didn't they do a check and possibly regrade a book when it came in for reholdering?  I distinctly recall having conversations with other collectors on the topic of reholdering and some were always hesitant about sending certain books in for reholdering fearing they'd risk receiving lower grades.

Have CGC practices changed?  Or is it true that a reholder never initiated a check on the book in the case?

    Thanks, guys.

What is the premium rate structure, if you know and can share it?

My only claim was on a book lost by FedEx coming back from CGC.  CI gave me full replacement value and turned the claim around in 6 days.

As for fee structure, I can tell you I have 200K in coverage for which I am charged 1K per year
