you want to burn a JIM 83? ROFL okeeeeeeeeeeeeee....
yes.....burn it.
That 100% guarantees it can never create the same problem again.
Seeing as how my "burn it" comment lit a "fire" under many of you (that's a pun), I'm going to follow the discussion yet bow out.
GL to everyone
You can't seriously be a comic collector or have any love for comics if you don't wince at the thought of a nice looking JIM 83 being burned because a company messed up on labeling it.
And that's not a personal attack on you at all. I'm just scratching my head on why you would think the reaction of some here would be anything but NOOOOO..
-
I'd even promise to keep it in my collection and have it buried with me when I die if you want.
This is what happens to items retired for such reasons. Destruction isn't necessary (nor was that what I implied) as they end up in collections with no intent to liquidate.
Now if only I can find out how one gets on the list to receive these retired items...

that's upside down face. You'd be better off to burn CGC headquarters and every slabbed container everywhere in the world.
Comics matter, CGC does not.
So explain to me what good it does keeping a scarlet letter book in circulation?
And if CGC purchases it, then why does it matter what they do to it??
A scarlet letter book to a VERY small number of collectors. Heck, crack it out and put a black dot with a sharpie on the bottom of every page and sell it to me. I'd even promise to keep it in my collection and have it buried with me when I die if you want.

This is so typical of many of the new people that have joined in the last couple of years. They take no interest in making friends, are confrontational, suck the place dry and spend the majority of their time in the sales threads.
Methinks there needs to be a PIF Hall of Shame for all the gypsies, tramps and thieves.
I like the idea someone had about a trading thread.
Me too. Let's face it, that's what the PIF thread is. I think that way you could make a more clearly defined set of rules without having to worry about ruining the "spirit" of the thread.

As I posted previously in this thread. I am wondering what "everyone in the building with grading credibility" means. And if that is an exact quote from Harshen.
Was there one person in the building on that day, that was considered as a credible grader? Two people?
Did the OP exact quote what Harshen stated, or did the OP just put it into his own words?
I would love to be a fly on the wall in CGC's main office, when the meeting is held on how to address this situation.
Now THAT would be interesting.
My guess is that the current owner will be asked to resubmit this book for free, and it will be given a purple label. Since he (or she) will not actually lose money because he bought it with a purple label on it. With CGC giving a mea culpa, stating they just got it wrong when they gave it a blue label. And that things will be "tightened up" in regards to trimming, etc.
There is no other way this could work out. Anything other than the above, would be quite a devastating hit to their business credibility.
But they will survive, no matter what the outcome of this situation. Just like GM will with their current embarrassing situation. There are just too many people invested in the CGC model. Collectors that have poured thousands of dollars into their collections, sellers who specialize in CGC "stuff", auction houses that specialize in CGC "stuff", and even the casual collector who only has ten to twenty slabbed comics.
Like Columbia Comics stated. It is not the end of the world. Although I hate when someone says that their kids and wife still love them, so anything else is no big deal.
It actually IS a big deal. If you have hundreds of CGC graded books in your collection. As I do.
Do you really think this is true though? I have to think that only a very small percentage of collectors are members on this site and will even hear about all of this. As far as those of us who are on here, I think the damage has been done. There are probably a few on here that were on the fence before and have now been tipped over, but I have to agree with those that say that whatever the outcome happens to be that this will just be swept under the rug and forgotten about by most until the next big screw up is posted on here.

I've even talked to graders a few days or a few weeks after grading a book and they have no idea which book I'm talking about.
I'd liken it to working in a grocery store and trying to remember what all the people looked like last week. The odd person might jog your memory if they looked like an Action #1 but for the most part, it's a blur.
I'm curious how long some posters think CGC graders spend on a book. 12 seconds? 20?
Some of the posts seem like they imagine Graders do extensive CSI type investigative exams.
Do you know the answer to this? I myself have absolutely no idea and would be interested to know the answer. I would hope if I was spending a few hundred dollars for a service I'd get more than 12-20 seconds worth of work though!

I haven't kept up with all the metal gear solids lately, but #1 was the best PS1 game on the system, IMO
Best spy/espionage game on PS1 by far, but FF7 has got to be somewhere on the best game for the system list.
Agreed and agreed. Man, now I'm thinking about grabbing a ps1 emulator and busting out some retro games....
I'm playing FF7 on my PC. Just download Steam and you can get it right now for $3.99 though that price is only good for this weekend. Then its back to $11.99.
http://store.steampowered.com/
I actually downloaded FF7 for the PC years ago. There was a patch for it to upgrade the visuals to "HD quality". There was something about it on the PC though that just seemed off; I'm thinking maybe the music was wonky or something like that...
Oh, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is off my play list. I put about 15 minutes into it last night after the UK/Louisville game and I literally fell asleep playing it. Figure it's something my 10 yr. old nephew might like so I'll keep it around but definitely not something I'm going to play again. So I'm gonna jump into Ninja Gaiden Z now.

How do those emulators work? Do you install them in your system?I haven't kept up with all the metal gear solids lately, but #1 was the best PS1 game on the system, IMOBest spy/espionage game on PS1 by far, but FF7 has got to be somewhere on the best game for the system list.

You can if you have a modded system. I run mine from my PC though. Xbox 360 controllers work well for most systems. I also have original NES and Genesis controllers hooked up through USB adapters you can find on Amazon. I've got my PC hooked up to the projector for a wall full of gaming bliss

i think you should leave dark souls 2 to be the last one you play.I've got these games ready to play on 360. What would you guys start with?Batman: Arkham Origins
Dark Souls II
Castlevania Lords of Shadow II
Thief
Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
this would be my order of playing them
Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z
Castlevania Lords of Shadow II
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Thief
Batman: Arkham Origins
Dark Souls II
That's pretty much the order I was thinking. I had Dark Souls II a little higher but I know you guys said that's a killer game so I guess it probably would be better to save the "best for last" (thumbs u
How is the difficulty on Ninja Gaiden Z compared to the other current gen Gaiden games? If it's got some tough spots I might flip it with TMNT since I'm assuming that will be a quicker play through (or maybe not?).

Ya, the new Zelda ain't happening till at least 2015 so that's still a long way to go.So, pros & cons of getting a WiiU?And should I even bother to buy one if the rumors of a new nintendo system in the pipeline are true?
I've heard nintendo is having a real hard time getting 3rd party developers on board so nintendo is kinda in a panic.
I'll sell you mine if you want it.
I bought one in anticipation of a new Zelda and/or Metroid game; still waiting.
Mario World 3D was cool but took 1 day to finish.
If I were you I'd just wait until they are $100 on ebay; heck you may not even have to wait that long.
That's why I'm probably going to be ebaying mine. If the new Zelda is a must have I'll just grab a used system, play through Zelda, then sell the thing off.
I will mention too that I play alone. Maybe the Wii U is much better as a group? Also, if we only had 1 TV the ability to play on the tablet would be cool, but we have a separate space so that never happens.
I know when the first Wii came out we played the out of it for the first couple of months with friends who aren't even into gaming. After that, it collected dust. Well, the Wii U skipped the fun part and is just collecting dust! There are just too few games on the system that aren't also on 360 or PS3. The touchscreen could be utilized for some cool things but I don't think they've taken advantage of it yet.

Anybody pick up the South Park game?
i enjoyed it kind of short but still enjoyable
I agree, I'm about 8 hours in and looking at the mission list It looks like I'm getting close to the end. If you like the show this is definitely worth a play through. It's pretty much like playing through an extended uncensored South Park movie that features about every character from the series. They do make the game a little too easy but that also keeps the game flowing well.
-
The reason I am asking it is NOT because of 1Cool, but because once you open the door, the rest of the dirt will automatically flow in. What happens when a 12-post newbie starts a raffle thread, and people buy tickets (and they will, from past experience with newbie sales threads) are you going to be against them then?
And BTW, the only laws are against running a raffle for PERSONAL gain - local charities, churches, non-private schools, etc. are exempt. It's only when a person or a for-profit business runs an unlicensed raffle that it breaks lottery laws.
Lottery laws vary by state; in a few states you don't have to have a license. Since it's internet based I'm not sure how that would work though.

Don't know if I might be the only one in here who has ran into this problem...but here's the fix just in case.
When I'm playing a PS3 game, I charge my Dualshock 3 controller on my laptop when it gets low on power so I don't have to have it tethered to the actual PS3 itself.
However, I got a new laptop and have updated it to Windows 8.1 recently. Now I've noticed that when I plug my PS3 controller into one of its USB ports, it won't charge it.
Did quite a bit of digging around on the internet, and finally found the solution here. Simply follow the directions below:
Go to your Device Manager and then to your Human Interface Devices section before plugging in your PS3 controller. Then plug in your PS3 controller and you will see "HID-compliant game controller" and "HID-compliant wireless radio controls" be updated to your Human Interface Devices section. Right click and disable "HID-compliant game controller" then unplug and replug in your PS3 controller and it should charge fine.
Hope that helps anyone who might be having the same problem.
I've never even thought about charging from a laptop, great idea!

Quick question...
I must admit that I was tempted to take the NES system currently in the mixed threads. However, I am looking for a cheap way to play the games in some reliable sense of the word.
What is the best way to relive the NES?
I was looking at a couple of emulators on Amazon but I did not like the reviews that I saw.
Anyone have some words of wisdom?
Download a rom pack and NES emulator for your computer online
Download Hyperspin if you want it to look fancy
Grab an original NES controller off ebay
Grab a NES to USB adapter
Have fun!

Thanks Slym, the 775s are indeed silver size. I was just looking around at boxes and realized I'd probably have to go with a magazine box. I'll have to get the smaller size bags/boards next time since I already have a ton of boxes.
From 1 page back ... (775s are 7 3/4" wide, hence the name)
Question, can a comic in a 800R Archive mylar fit into a long box or is it too wide? No. An 800R Archive is 8" wide - regular long & shortboxes only have an interior width of 7 1/2".
You'll need to put the book in either a magazine box, a CGC box, or use one of the E Gerber acid-free boxes:

Don't you hate it when people ask questions they could easily find the answer too in the same thread?

For anyone who uses the 775 Mylites2, what kind of boxes do you use?
I just started moving some books over to my new bags and boards but they don't quite fit in my regular long or short boxes I get from my LCS.

Sounds like I need to grab Lego Marvel

Batman blank cover sketch
Hey Webhead,
Do you have a site you use to post your art (personal website, blog, DeviantArt, etc...). I'd like to check it out if you do; you have a great talent!

Nope, I was looking forward to checking them out too

Bought an Infinity Gauntlet set from Mike. Super quick shipping and took me about 10 minutes to get through all the layers of packing! Books were beautiful.
Thanks Mike!

BUT the JIM 83 was slabbed twice as a blue label; seems just as reasonable it wasn't actually trimmed. Big difference between that and a book that is 100% without a doubt mislabeled wrong as to the printing.
