Todd the Ugliest Kid on Earth
NigelTufnel42 replied to fastballspecial's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Like I said...it resonates with the part of our personality some of us don't want to admit to. I love how it spits in the face of PC Nation. I cannot stand when groups of people take themselves too seriously. -

Amazingly i think Ken has created something rarely seen in any entertainment medium nowadays...the pure hearted protagonist. If you really think about it Todd is all Heart and naivete. But just look at TV. It revels in the flawed antihero. Walter White, Don Draper, Tony Soprano, Vick Macke, Dexter, Al Swearingen (to a degree). And then we have Todd. Way to go Ken! U have turned 21st Century convention on its ear. -

they don't make that much alcohol. Is there anything better than Todd or East of West right now? If there is I would love to read it. Both so different. I am partial to Six Gun Gorilla and Five Ghosts but I don't think they are as good. Newish? Saga I think it is very good but i am in awe of East of West and its scope. And then Todd just calls to the Dark side of all of our personalities. I have heard great things about Revival but have yet to read. -

If I was still in college I would start the Todd Drinking Game...every time a group/ethnicity/famous person gets "raked" u have to drink a shot of Bourbon. I am guessing this would induce a spike in alcohol poisoning. -

I just downloaded on my Ipad. Don't want to touch my copy going into the collection. I am assuming I should wait to read until kids aren't around to peak over a shoulder? -

Nothing wrong with making money. My wife would never go for me paying $1200 for a mid grade Daredevil #1 or the $400 I shelled out for a Five Ghosts SDCC set or the EoW RRP variant I am hoping to buy but if I don't have to use "our" money she just says whatever. Gotta feed the addiction. -

You can still get them cheap too. I think people are sleeping on this issue. Totally different cover. -
I was pretty stoked.

I have spent so much time in the MCS sux thread that I feel like i should give some attention to one of the titles i love. I won this last night. http://www.ebay.com/itm/300967195125?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 I actually had the alarm set on my phone at a wedding reception and hawked the auction while the father/bride dance was going on. Wife was pissed but i didn't care. This comic reminds me of why Raiders of the Lost Ark was my favorite movie as a kid. Just love this comic. Ok gotta get back to the MCS thread. I feel like i am singlehandedly keeping that thread afloat.

You are my new best friend. I like the way you think! (thumbs u Cool. I can always use a friend. All kidding aside, this and six gun gorilla are my favorite comics right now and I am just blown away by the scope of EoW. Five Ghosts is my crack cocaine though...I just am addicted to that title. -

I have seen and heard this a hundred times before but for different books. How can you say it's going to be a hit? Holding and accumulating only fuels speculation. Have to agree with this... no offense but it's like a broken record. Do yourself a favour and relax from the speculation. No offense taken but when I am playing with house money (I have bought most of my Todd collection from profits off selling Last of Us, Day Men and Catwoman 23) it is hard not to get excited. Catching lightning in a bottle with the Pump & Dump titles so that you can accumulate the real gems (Todd, Think Tank,East of West) brings a smile to my face. -

You remind me of the type who go on a stock's message board and bash the stock for certain motivations. Like wanting the PPS to go down so you can jump on board at a cheaper price. Just find it interesting that you would give any thought to speculation on a comic you don't seem to think too much of...if I lose all my money then so be it. Nobody's business but mine. However if you cannot see the genius in this title then there really is no accounting for taste. -

I let my sister n law read it on my IPad (she isn't a comic book person) and she can't wait for this to come out on Adult Swim. I am in no way prone to hyperbole...this show is going to be a hit. I would not sell right now. Only hold and accumulate. $20 will be a steal within weeks of any premiere. Animation will really allow the writing to shine and then I could see this getting a cult following. In a great year for comics this is as good as it gets. -

Todd #1 second prints? 67 for 6 copies? If i'm understanding you correctly, you could get nice quality copies on feebay for less than 10 a pop. Those were first prints. Didn't clarify that well. -

50 is really impressive. Nearly 1% of all print runs You started accumulating before or after the news broke? Just before and still am. I have paid as little as $6.99 and as much as $45 (for premium condition). I think people are really sleeping on the 2nd prints. Completely different lineup. I got 6 copies for about $67 last week. 6 copies of #1 First Print -

I agree. It is one of the funniest comics out. I was a kid with Howard the Duck #1 and watched it shoot to $25 in the next year. Then that horrible movie came out and it tanked immediately. I def would sell some before a movie or cartoon comes out. I appreciate the advice but I am a purist degenerate at heart and somehow my wife sees speculating on comics as not the same as placing a $110 wager on the Green Bay Packers -7.5. Who knew. I actually blame Peter Panzerfaust for my affliction. Had 10 beautiful copies that I paid $3.00 each for and sold for $40.00 each. Sounds great except for making the mistake of checking on Ebay 3 weeks later and seeing them going for $200+. It has become a dark spot on my soul. -

matter of opinion, I think PP is a much better book. I think both are great books. Kind of weird comparing the two books (totally different genre's) but there is not a comic out there currently that I feel someone could make the statement "Much better book" in comparison to Todd the Ugliest kid on Earth. It hits on all cylinders. I guess you could be turned off by the subject matter but just cannot deny it's genius. read it for third time last night and it is still painfully funny. -

I couldn't agree more. I have been accumulating as much as possible. Up to 50 issues of #1 First Prints and probably 30+ of the 2nd Print. There are no boundaries or limitations in animation so the writing will truly shine. This is going to be a cult hit IMHO. Cannot ever remember a book with as sharp a wit. -

As far as 5 Ghosts go there is just something different about that comic that makes it special. Has a Saturday Matinee serial adventure feel to it that really resonates. JMO
