I would just humbly suggest that we all take a moment to try to get inside the mindset of the folks who feel such a powerful race-based affinity for this movie -- which features not only a mostly black cast, but also a predominantly black creative team who are telling a story about an idealized African nation that is simultaneously steeped in a glorious past and firmly poised to seize an equally glorious future.    It's a beautiful thing.

Plus, the reviews seem to indicate that it's a legitimately great movie.  If it has the commercial success that is expected, it puts the lie to decades-old assumptions about what kinds of movies will sell, and therefore could set off a seismic shift in what kinds of movies get produced.  The implications are worthy of every bit of the hype this film is getting.

I totally understand the wish that our society could be perfectly color-blind ... but as long as we live in a society that isn't, we all need to make the effort to understand, as best we can, what it's like to be in the shoes of people of other backgrounds and experiences.

Submitted humbly and with no judginess.  Honest.

     Perfectly said.

I'm all for success based on merit and cultural celebrations, but something about the talk of a movie succeeding strictly because the race of its cast...feels...obviously wrong to me. Damn, I wish color just wasn't a part of the equation at all...regardless. THAT would be a cultural moment.

Color is a part of the equation because the movie had to be cast in mainly black actors to be true to the African storyline.  That is nearly unheard of in Hollywood.  Most movies can cast without a single Black, Latino or Asian actor and you rarely hear a peep.  Except for that Egyptian movie with Christian Bale that got destroyed in the press and at the box office for shockingly casting zero color for a movie based in Africa.  I believe the movie succeeded because it was cast with amazing actors, incredible music, awesome CGI and excellent writing and yes there will be some serious pride from a lot of people who are thrilled to have a Black hero.  The first in comics and first black super hero movie.  I call that a great combination of factors leading to overwhelming success.

    Wow...just WOW!

I just don't see this FF52 slowing down.  This weekend should be another massive haul at the box office which means more exposure to millions more people.  More regular folks will come out of the wood work looking for a copy and serious collectors will be trying to upgrade or pick a copy they should have picked up long ago.  There will also be pressure on Fiege to talk about Black Panther 2.  I think we're seeing the forming of a new ceiling and we have no idea how high this will go.

  4. I should have know better.  Disappointing movie.  Bad writing, plot holes, bad acting...

The worst part was they completely glossed over the idea they were going back to the planet to exact revenge and they did that entire scene in 2 minutes.  Why setup this giant humanoid race if they weren't really going to follow through.  Alien was great because it was a great horror flick in a space ship.  Nothing has come close since.

Finally, are Star Lord's appearances in the Marvel Preview issues considered to be part of mainstream Marvel universe continuity?  It looks like Marvel Preview #4 was also Star Lord's origin as well so this confuses me about the importance of Marvel Spotlight #6 and #7 as origin issues. I haven't read any of these early Star Lord issues, and I couldn't find any info online, so I hope to get some clarifications here. Thanks.

He appeared in a bunch of Marvel Preview issues, which makes me feel like the "first comic appearance" a few years later isn't much of anything.  sure, it's going to be, and is, worth something, but rocket's first app in preview is borderline prototype, whereas the comic appearance, which doesn't have 5 or 6 magazine apps in between, defines him more

People like their comic books.  No extra supplies to but and they fit in the box and feel right in your hand.  It also has a cool cover.

It's the first appearance of Swamp Thing. It's undervalued.

Swamp Thing is an interesting character but he's no money maker.  It's all about Berni's great art and a classic scary cover.  Few covers come close to the look you feel after watching it.  How can you define a 1950's style piece art that makes you feel like you're watching a Horror flick from the safety of a drive in theatre.

Timing is everything in selling, too. Collect what you love AND by all means play the investment game too within your means, but for the ones that are solely about the $$$ for you, always consider your exit time horizon when going in. Don't set it in stone, but consider it, and watch for signs to try to figure out when to sell (at least so you're not too late). Have fun! Timing trendy books is a fun and legitimate part of this hobby.

Timing is of course the hardest part too.  And frustrating when you sell too late or too soon.

  8. It's an undervalued book but the prices have been slowly rising.  It is also hard to find in high grade likely because it was in the dollar boxes for so long.  You won't see too many 9.8's for sale but when they do show up they are almost as pricey as Hulk 271 9.8.

I expect this book will continue to grow as Chris Pratt is great in the role and StarLord is becoming more prominent in the Marvel U with the reveal that he is a Celestial.  See what that has done to Eternal #1 & #2 prices.

I bought 4 nice high grade copies of #1 last weekend at the two Cons I went to and passed on about 20 mid grade copies scattered thru out the rooms.  The #2 seemed more rare but the #1 was everywhere.

1 and 2 are getting harder to find in NM.  Worse, try finding the 30 cent price variants.  Now those are hard to find.
