Sure, now that it's valuable it's suddenly an iconic cover, but I remember nominating it years ago in a Top Bronze Age Cover thread and it getting berated out of existence.

ST 178 and CM 29 are my 2 favorite Starlin covers, with Warlock 9 and CM 33 very close behind

Just on covers 178 is my favorite but do yourself a favor and line up warlock 9, 10, 11 and 15 right next to each other and try to pick a favorite. And than go and read them. Great art and great story and one amazing run.

It's sometimes good to be ahead of your time. It is an awesome cover with a powerful pose.

Strange Tales 178. Magus and Warlock rumors. And tough to find in high grade with that black cover.

Agree about Star Wars 2. It should be taking off shortly.

Star Wars 41 is the first appearence of Yoda, in the final panel. 42 is still underrated though.

Daredevil is my favorite comic character of all time and the series so far is excellent in a gritty Frank Miller tone. However, I am not sure this series will have a huge long term impact on values in the way we have seen with recent movie announcements like Inhumans, Black Panther.... I think we will see increased interest but not the frenzy of the last few years.

I think the Netflix format allows the fan to binge watch the entire series and it doesn't cause that weekly buzz build of traditional TV or regular news leaks of the movies. Fans like myself live and die for this exciting buildup and it gets us jazzed and wanting to buy more. Watching all 12 episodes in one week or weekend is shooting the proverbial load on the first date vs the slow tease of a long courtshp. I'm curious to see how this format works out.

Great series so far by the way. Stick and Wilson Fisk are very well written and acted parts.

dardevil is a personal favorite. The book has already seen a nice run but let's see what kind of buzz the Netflix series generates.

Hey Claudio, the Agents of Shield I am referring to is the TV series. The entire plot line of the last 10 episodes has dealt with the Inhumans and finding The lost city. It is a very good storyline and excellent TV.

BUdsbundy, I hear you, it stinks when you just miss out on a key when the prices shoot up. I have been there many times. Marvel has surprised my skeptical nature many times over the years. I did not think they could pull off Iron Man. I was wrong. I thought Thor would be cheesy. I was very wrong. I did not think they could pull off a tree that only says three words and a Racoon that shoots a giant gun. I was wrong again. I am a believer and think Black Bolt and the Inhumans might be incredibly challenging but it could be the best yet. Read Silent War for a great modern storyline or War of Kings. This story could be spectacular and I agree the CGI with Medusa's hair could be amazing.

Forever People 1 has quietly reached new highs in high grade. I used to be an opportunistic buyer whenever I saw one reasonably priced but those days are gone. I know this is the first full Darkseid but wow

CGC 9.6 is almost impossible to find and 9.4s are now way out of my range.

Why is everyone crying in their beer? Because the prices are too high? Come on fellas the Inhumans rock. The books were way undervalued and now they are mid priced. Issues 46, 42 and 47 are still somewhat reasonable. And you can always grab Thor 146-152 for the origin issues. Pick those up while you can. I don't see high grade prices dropping for any of the key Inhumans books. Great art, great stories, a movie on the horizon and don't forget the great Agents of Shield storyline that is building the modern version of the Inhumans storyline.

Love the movie and the soundtrack was even better.

We are debating Spawn...right!

The all art, no story Spawn. The millions of copies of nearly worthless comics (yes I have a bunch) The crappy cartoon and crappy movie Spawn! (And yes I watched them) The I can't believe there is still a comic about this character. And the idea that an add is a first appearance makes it more absurd. I love the debate but man let's choose a better character.

After directing CGC to this thread with the supporting evidence contained within, they responded to me they will now label X-Men Annual #14 like this:

 

"Gambit cameo (pre-dates Uncanny X-Men #266)"

 

And, ladies and gentlemen, THIS is why label notes should not be factored into anyone's purchasing decisions.

 

They simply aren't 100% accurate and reliable, nor should they be. They are just CGC's opinion. Therefore, this "OMG, THE LABEL NOTES SAY THIS AND IT SHOULD SAY THAT AND OMGOMGOMGOMG WHAT AM I GOING TO DO!!!!!???" is really a bunch of melodrama for no purpose.

 

The label notes are a courtesy. They are free. They should not EVER take the place of what the hobby, and most importantly, the individual collector, decides what is important about any particular book.

 

Those of you who agree need to point this out, and keep pointing it out, to anyone who argues that the label notes are important in ANY WAY.

 

And X-Men Annual #14 SHOULD say: "1st appearance of Gambit (minor)" or something along those lines. If X-Men #266 needs to say "1st full appearance Gambit", that's fine, but it really highlights the issue, dunnit? The label notes should not matter, and should not form any basis for someone's purchase.

Agree. CGC notes are not the end all be all. They have been wrong in the past and they will be again. To their credit they are willing to correct mistakes and omissions. It is up to collectors and readers to rectify mistakes and keep the flame of reading going.

When if first started collecting Avengers, I wanted to own all the key villains that I loved as a kid. Kang, Yellow Jacket... and more importantly Ultron. At the time neither CGC or Overstreet listed his first appearance. I found it odd that the Avengers greatest villain did not have a first appearance. I ended up reading every silver age avengers copy I could get my hands on. It was great fun and great learning. I zeroed in on Avengers 54 and 55. After much debate I chose to believe Ultron's first was 55 because of that fake out in that one panel in 54 (you really have to read it). I found Avengers 55 way undervalued and picked up quite a few every time I saw it cheap. I also picked up 54 when I saw it dirt cheap because as a collector I wanted both. Eventually the Age of Ultron series came out and the movie announcement was made and Ccg started labeling 55 and called it his first. I have some nice affordable copies off 55 and I am a happy more knowledgeable collector.

I just started my FF collection today. I'm a newb to comics in general, fell in love with the Black Bolt and the inhumans over the past few months (yes, even before the movie hype hit high gear) and that in turn got me into old FF. Today I just purchased a copy of FF#47 on ebay for a good price. I will post a pic when I get it.

Welcome to a great club. Silver Age Fantastic Fours are timeless masterpieces. You cannot go wrong collecting and reading any issue. Too me they are still all under valued (well most of them). In particular 47 is a great choice because of MM and it should go up in value once they announce plot details as the movie gets closer.

$7900 for a 1.5. That just destroys GPA by a whole lot.

 

Guess that answers the question as to whether or not spidey going to his cinematic home can give AF 15 an additional bump:

Folks will always try to manipulate the market instead of letting the market set itself. AF 15 is a true grail but let's see what happens when the hype dies down and folks realize Sony still controls spidey and will still be making bad movies. It will always be expensive but maybe not mortgage expensive.

Comics associated with movies are not keys.

I agree. Keys are keys. First issues of all time greats; spiderman, hulk, xmen, avengers, and even thor and iron man. Key villains like doom, Loki...

We are now creating keys based on movie or tv hype. If you appear or are rumored to appear your first appearance is now a key. plastique, shark man, angel dust...

Why isn't the Superman/Batman movie elevating the value of all my back issues of World's Finest?

Good question. I have always loved the concept and campiness of WF so I think they are fun to collect. I think the low value is tied to a lack of true keys (new heroes or villains introduced) . Offhand can't think of any in the series so it's slim pickings for investors who only want keys. They are fun and remind me of an innocent time so they will always be a part of my collection.

I would be surprised if AF 15 had any more legs. Both 15 and Hulk 1 are already bursting at the seams. Great books to own because of their history but even great comics have their limits. On the flip side I'm side sure someone said the same thing about Action 1 ten years ago.

I know FF 67 is hot - but this hot? There wasn't even a back scan posted.... Shilled maybe?

Hot book and a nice copy. I think it's a foregone conclusion people believe it's only a matter of time before we get Warlock in the Infinity Gauntlet movie arc.

No surprise with 67. The white hot book that doesn't get a lot of publicity. Agree this will be absolute fire when they finally make the announcement. Get them now or forever regret.

Super underrated book and hard to find too.

They are both grails that will keep on gaining importance as the movie franchise grows. However, as much as I see the investment value of Avengers #1, I have to go with Cap and Avengers #4. One of the all time great heroes in one of the all time great covers. Love wins out over investment <3

I always had a soft spot for Hawk and Dove. Such a kooky concept that never took off in comics but it might make for interesting TV. I am curious if Showcase 75 really takes off. It is one of those books that probably was not widely collected or well taken care of. I'm guessing high grade books will be in short supply. And with loads of collectors procrastinating because they don't love the characters, it might actually be a slow rise up the charts. This will be interesting.
