  1. I remember when I first started collecting Batman and Superman I thought how tough many more great villains Batman had vs. Superman. And although 242 and 252 were always pricier the gap wasn't huge.

But it made me want to collect Batman more because I grew watching these villains on the 60's TV show, the 80's animated show, the 80's and 90's movies and the 2000's trilogy. The back stories of the Batman villains were always deeper, darker and more intriguing. Nothing against Supergirl and Brainiac (and maybe the Parasite) but with the exception of Luther these characters were less interesting.

As a collector, I own 242 & 252 and am thrilled with the increases but I believe the Batman key villains are a better value even at their higher valuations. And I believe there is a room to grow.

  2. This is one heck of a thread. Great gift (understatement) from a lady who understands your hobby. :cloud9:

Delivered in a crazy but cool way. Than the intrigue of a sale. Than it's not a sale.

He held the book. Than the price was lowered by $5K. That part had me going the most because I've never paid $5K for a book let alone $42K. (worship)

Totally crazy thread and an awesome grail book. Gotta love a happy ending :golfclap:

  3.

I am always on the lookout for Batman Silver keys and I've noticed a real takeoff in activity. They have always been slow and steady climbers but this is getting nuts.

I believe it started with Batman 121 taking off like a rocket. Recently it is 181 because of the Poison Ivy Sirens news. But 155, 171, 189 are starting to take off to the point where its impossible to find any decent deals.

My question to other boardies: Are the Batman Silver keys going the way of the Superman keys like 242 & 252? I never thought that was possible but it feels like it.

  4. I just got blown out of the water on this poorly wrapped 9.6:

It ended at $4k; last sale was $3.5k; 12-month GPA is $2.7k.

Any idea why HG IM55's suddenly exploding?

There was a plateau phase with this book because Thanos next appearance seemed so far away. But now that we are a year or so away, I think folks will be surging to pick up a copy. Once people see the prices rising they will join the herd in fear of being priced out.

When you realize IM 55 is cheaper than Moon Knight's 1st appearance than you know a correction has to happen. Get ready for some sparks before the first movie trailer when news starts to leak from the set.

  5. There will be plenty of room to grow. Aggiez mentionns FF45 and IM 55 which are good examples but also look at the trajectory of FF 46, 52 and Strange Tales 110.

Yep, I believe that Warlock done right will have ST110 legs as he was a huge factor in Starlin's birth of the Marvel Cosmic Universe and also in the Infinity series that rocked the Copper Age. And this is no Loki, Warlock is a hero and was the only one who could take down Thanos. That 9.0 current price will be a dream if he is done properly.

  6. I'm late to the ST fan club. I just did not buy into the early hype and did not have time for another TV show. I am so glad I finally listened to all of the folks who raved about this show.

It's like Scooby Doo, baby X-Files and Poltergeist all wrapped in one. I found myself not wanting to binge on this one and prefer to savor each episode by only watching one or two at a time. I've been watching it with three other friends and its been like a little party every time. Still have two to go and we're making a special night of it. Fantastic!

  7. Great series. Loved the acting, the vibe and the music. Misty and Coppermouth were fantastic and Mariah became a more powerful character as the series developed her character.

At times, some of the episodes felt a little slow but that is expected in a long series. That also helped set the tempo and develop the characters. That is a benefit of the Netflix series format vs. the 2 hour movie.

Looking forward to Defenders and ultimately Luke Season 2.

  8. Black Lightning was an interesting character, however electricity powers never made for a great hero. The Wonder Twins bumped fists and have formed an Eagle with a bucket of water and would have doused him every time. meh powers.

    Speaking of Luke.

Cage #19. Great cover and great blue color. Along with a cool villain, Cottonmouth. I believe the main villain of this show.

  9. As much as I love the Thanos character, he is still just a copy of Darkseid. Jim Starlin came up with Thanos after he was told to copy the character back when Marvel was crapping their pants about what Kirby could have done at DC. Unfortunately although Kirby created some great stuff, it never really came together while he was there.

Starlin did a better job than Kirby of making Thanos shine and created an awesome cosmic storyline that spanned Warlock, Captain Marvel and the Avengers (and a touch of Iron Man & Daredevil. Thanos than went silent for years until the very creative Infinity Gauntlet.

However, Darkseid is an amazing villain. He just did not initially hit the main books like Superman, Batman, Flash... just Jimmy Olsen. It took DC a long time to figure out how to make him THE main villain of the DCU but I'm hoping the movie folks can capture the magic.

The best thing for fans would be if both DC and Marvel figured it out and created insane movies. FO 1 and JO 134 would both explode and IM 55 would rise even further. Than Disney could buy DC and we could have a Thanos vs. Darkseid final show down. I know I got a little carried away...but you never know. :luhv:

  10. So I see New Gods 7 has been a desired item for a few months now (I just noticed this today, I guess I'm out of the loop).

So I ran to one of my shops where they usually have a bunch of these 4th world books at decent prices to see if he has a copy and they are ALL gone. (the darkseid stuff had already been gone for a while, of course). I can't really tell from ebay that these books (New Goods, Forever People, mostly) have allgone nuts, but its weird that what was once probably 20-30 copies of issues from these titles, they're all gone. unless maybe someone walked in with a want list or something.

I am noticing less and less of any of the Kirby 4th World books in the bins. I believe this was driven by Darkseid but this is also long overdue. Kirby's art across New Gods and Forever People is stunning and the creativity is off the charts. His dialogue and plots are his weakness and unfortunately I believe that is what doomed both series. Issue 7 is just the start. I believe most of these issues will become "hot" as elements and characters keep being added to the movies. Darkseid, Orion, Mother Box, Steppenwollf....Black Racer, Beautiful Dreamer and many more like;y coming soon.

  11. Skip St. Mark's. Not much to see except the surrounding neighborhood which is one of the few still unique neighborhoods left in the city. You can get a tattoo, a nipple piercing and a slice all within a block or two

For new comics, you have to go to Midtown. Great selection and abundance. Back issues not so much. Unfortunately, NY is not much of a back issue town. Rents too high and space too valuable. I like the Roger's Time Machine recommendation but... their new location is very small and you should only go when Roger is there (I believe that is Mon-Wed). Other days he has a young guy there who doesn't have the experience to know where the good stuff is.

  12. Marry, Kill, Frack

Marry AS 300. Its the iconic book.

Kill NM 98. Its the annoying book

Frack BA 12. Well do I need to say...

However after seeing the DP movie, I have to change my mind. Deadpool may have changed the entire super hero movie game for the next several years allowing more adult themes and humor to make the genre much more interesting. I believe we are seeing the distinct divide between kids movies and adult movies and that is not a bad thing. For that NM 98 may be the game changer.

  13. Double covers are very hard to find for most comics. In any given week eBay will have less than 100 cgc graded double covers for gold, silver, bronze, copper and modern. Iron Man 55 is so ridiculously hot that a double cover would be very valuable so you have something that will be in demand.

At one point about 4 years ago there were a few IM 55 double covers on eBay but they were snatched up quickly. The last one that sold was the 9.8 for $13K and a 9.6 on eBay. None have been seen since. I'm guessing that less than 7 exist and I would bet that one person owns most of them.

Get yours graded if you haven't already done so. If I'm right and there are only about 7 of these out of the entire print run for an insanely in demand comic than hold on to it. Demand will only go up with two HUGE movies coming.

    Congrats!
