The Superman is by BWS. I believe it's from either the Superman:The Man of Steel Gallery #1, or one of the Superman anniversary issues from the mid 90's. --Mark T.

I'm definitely in the camp of having everything "original" on one page. I want the whole process to be on the piece I own (even with the understanding that after inks, and erasing pencil lines I probably couldn't tell the difference). I won't buy a piece that is inked (by a different inker) over blue line pencils. I'm absolute on that. I'd maybe consider buying the pencils, but have no interest in the published, inked, blue line piece. Now when you're talking about inks over blue lines by the same artist, that's another matter. I wouldn't rule that out completely, but it's a bit less desirable to me. I certainly understand all of the advantages to the artist by using more computer assistance. But from strictly a collectors view I don't like it. --Mark T

10-15 years ago Herriman KK Sundays were plentiful at $6K. Tom Horvitz was selling a bunch (which I believe were from a Herriman relative) for that price. Comparable ones are 3X-4X that today. So while not as good a return as most Marvel art from that time, a 3X-4X price increase is certainly a nice return. Same could be said for Raymond Flash Gordon strips, Frazetta Johnny Comets, and Foster Tarzan strips as well. --Mark T

I don't typically participate in the yearly "Best Of" on CAF. But I do always enjoy looking over other's entries. And with this past weeks frigid weather, I'm getting a bit of cabin fever, so I thought I'd post a few of the things that I picked up this year. 1. Jack Kirby - Captain America #214 Cover. It's often tough to pick a favorite piece from each year, but this was this years favorite for sure. This is Kirby's final Captain America cover. It's also from the era when I was a little kid just getting into comics, and I remember all of his Cap covers from this time like they came out yesterday. I bought this cover from Ron Frenz back in the late 90's and traded it away a few years later. The Official Marvel Index to Marvel Team-Up featuring Spider-Man #2 Cover by Howard Bender and Paul Ryan. Maybe the longest title of the "Best Of" entries this year. I live near Howard and after talking with him I was surprised to learn that he still owned this cover. It was the last he'd kept. I was able to buy it from him, so it now has a new home after 30+ years. Alex Toth - Superman Annual #9 page 22 featuring Batman. I'm generally a cover guy. But Kirby, Eisner,and Toth are my 3 favorite artists, so I was thrilled to pick up this Batman page this year. Yeah, I don't care for most "newer" art. (Though many of Felix's guys seem to be an exception to me). Or maybe I'm just old and don't like new things. But most new art seems too busy, the colors are too dark and wash out the lines, and pages are not well laid out..... But I really fell for this cover when I first saw it. Yeah, I can see it. I've been collecting long enough to tell it's most certainly a stat. But maybe not everyone can. With a $10,000+ piece ,wouldn't you think the auction house could at least make note of it in their description and not expect every potential bidder to have to contact them to ask about it? --Mark T

What Heritage does should be the standard. The condition of the art should be disclosed. Full stop. It isn’t that hard. I realize that most condition issues are pretty clear from a picture. But a stat (and I'm assuming it's a photo stat and not an original art paste over) of the main character? That does effect value, and should be disclosed. --Mark T.

I'm a bit surprised that with the recent "misunderstanding" involving the Conan #1 story, that Comiclink doesn't make note of what looks to be a stat of Spider-man in the first panel of the McFarlane ASM #308 page. Instead of describing the latest Spider-man movie in the description, it seems it would be better to devote a few words to the condition of the page. --Mark T.

Wasn't this page on Mitch's site, and at San Diego, just a few months ago at (I believe) $9500? If it didn't sell there, why does someone buy it for an extra $650+ on Heritage and expect someone to pay even more on top of that? Mitch's site is very well known so it wasn't exactly hidden....... Thanks for passing along the info.....I should have mentioned that I'm only looking for Mike's earlier work, and not the later pencil pieces, or blue line covers.
