  1. a guy was going down his porch steps one morning, and saw a snail on the bottom step. he picked it up and hurled it as far as he could into the woods adjacent to his house. 6 mos. later the guy was going down his steps one morning. he saw a snail on the bottom step. the snail said "what the hell did you do that for?" I think we should get a list of all folks who pre-paid on this solicitation said the snail to the man.
  2. One interesting Avon I haven't seen very often....Gerber 8.....
  3. Sweet 2.5 and congrats on the 3.0 Now if someone would do a summary if hulk 1's.
  4. Where's the member summary when you need one :: Not many new Hulk 1's being acquired or found?
  5. Hacked and stolen post to add yet another supersnipe issue from a newsstand photo. Very cool internment camp photo and history. I think the supersnipe stands tall compared to any of those other comics although I'd like the Fight in my collection too. I can't imagine that sitting on a coffee table in 1944. Here is a pic of suspense 3 on the newsstand (bottom row, 2nd from left). This is the general store in Manzanar California in April 1944. This photo was taken by Toyo Miyatake, a famous professional photographer from Los Angeles, who was interned at the Manzanar internment camp. Internees were prohibited from having cameras in the camps but Miyatake smuggled in a lens and shutter and had a box camera built in camp. He wanted to document what the camps were really like. He took many photos in secret but eventually was discovered and was allowed to take pictures by a sympathetic camp director with the stipulation that he would be followed by a Caucasian escort who would snap the shutter. The escorts got tired of following him around and he was free to take any pictures within the camp. The side wall of the store has the following comics: Wonder 1, Supersnipe 15, Fight 32, World's Finest 13, Marvel Mystery 55, Green Hornet 18, Suspense 3, Leading 10, Popular 99 & Looney Tunes 31. Imagine yourself at the newsstand. What book would you pick? The Marvel Mystery, Wonder and Suspense would stand out with the red colors. But the Suspense has no leading characters whereas the other books do.
  6. Chuck always finds great books. Picked up a handful of pre code and GGA type books. Well described, priced fairly, shipped quickly and well packaged. Always a pleasure. Thanks
  7. And now a 2013 bump of my favorite thread and title thanks to a new Golden age photo with an image of Army Navy 5 with an early Supersnipe appearance before he gained his own title starting as Supersnipe V1 #6. Going to go grab those images now and will edit this post. Cheers to the boy with the most comic books in America. 2013 saw a year where a moderately high grade copy of Supersnipe V1 #8 in cgc 9.0 sold for over $5211 in a Sparkle City eBay auction. Still a bargain in my opinion. Other issues with great fun reading sell for a pittance so if you've never read a copy. Go out and buy a low grade copy and start the adventure of reading the boy with the most comics in America. May 1942. "Southington, Connecticut. Where Southington folk buy their magazines." Photo by Fenno Jacobs, Office of War Information. I've marked the hard to identify books in red. The blue ones are some of the more interesting or desirable books. 6. Action 50 7. Army & navy 5 8. Marvel mystery 33 9. Superman 17, hitler & Hirohito cover 10. Bill Barnes 7, japan atomic bombing story
  8. It's not a cover I recognize. so I must be rare. Or at least not likely found in alaska.
  9. Which one is the army navy 5. Early supersnipe. Or are you going to make me strain my eyes on my iPhone? Ill need to resurrect my old supersnipe thread and add this image.
  10. My experience was that they undergraded every book that I sent them when they were in their infancy calling themselves PGA. Every book I've resubmitted to CGC has come back higher graded. Many from 8.5 to 9.4 with no pressing. Just straight resubs. I've seen many travesty graded copies since the the are so off in the other direction that its laughable. They also have a variable standard in terms of who they are grading books for from what I see, if you are an unknown submitter, you get the strict treatment and if you are known or happen to be a grader for them, the sky is the limit. All my speculation but based upon the facts Ive seen. If I'm buying a PGA PGX or other incarnation, the first question I'd ask is was it submitted by the seller. The second question would be do they live in Oregon. If the answers are yes and no, then at least you have a shot at getting a decent book that may even be undergraded. Of course the resto check is worthless....
  11. Hey Comicdey! Thanks for the shout out and it was awesome to be involved in the deal for you. I think it's a special copy and haven't seen many copies that look this nice in 5.5. Not one bit of Marvel chipping and the edges are crisp. Now, i'm posting some of my pics of YOUR Hulk 1 because your scanner blows. Enjoy it bro! I almost couldn't pack it up and ship it off to you...it is really sweet [/url] your photo makes the top edge look immaculate, while my image makes it look like it's been chewed on by a dog. In reality, it has general non color breaking bends of the overflash along the entire top edge. Beautiful copy, congrats. That's a great story of its history also, well done. Happy for you Collin! And Happy Thanksgiving to you and all others reading this post! Thanks...I fell off the pre hero and GGA bandwagon for just a moment.

  17. Not at the level of all those slabbed beauties recently posted, but I needed a companion to my copy of Prison Break #1 and I recently found this in the wild.
