  1. I would but didn't think they would listen to us mortals. Thought they contact the publishers or have their own sanctioned investigative team to determine 1st appearances,
  2. I should add that the book(s) in question are not one is a cameo & the other is a full appearance either. I know CGC sometimes separate the two.
  3. I'm confused with you, so getting the correct first appearance on the label matters or no? Not even close, but thanks for raising the price of his 1st appearance now
  4. I think it would be worth a premium if it was original art to CGC for that label exclusively & not recycled from somewhere else. I can understand the appeal but not enough to pay $500 more.
  5. Title & can they make mistakes? No, I am not talking about debatable first appearances, like Wolverine. There is this one character that CGC got wrong from what I can gather. The book they labeled as the first appearance came out months after the real first appearance. On top of that, all of google & any Wiki page will disagree with CGC. What can be done here to get this corrected? I rather not say who the character is because I do not want to add to the speculation market.
  6. Thanks for this response. It certainly should be a confidence booster to anyone out there that own rare hi-grade slabs.
  7. Thanks for all the responses everyone! I certainly feel better & I am sure the seller does too by not having to do a return. Honestly thought I would get more people to say return it, but I'm okay with this too, it's why I made the topic. Just thought it's messed up how a person can pack a high priced slab in a haphazard way, just silly to take a risk like that. Good to hear that SSD is pretty much straight forward, that is no unseen damages typically occurs.
  8. You might be the first person who ever said anything nice about PGX that I read here, by nice I mean not using the word trash & PGX in the same sentence, lol. I just lost any respect for them when I read they attempted to steal someone's TMNT #1 by switching it out with a later printing. You cannot make up for that, no matter what you do your reputation is forever ruined with me personally.
  9. Not worth any premium in my opinion, are they not even original art to CGC?
  10. Shaken slab syndrome typically occurs around the staples and corners, correct? Thanks for the responses guys, I needed to hear if I am being overly dramatic about it.
  11. I hope to get some truthful unbiased opinions here (because alot of us are sellers). If you were to pay 4k or more for a 9.8 slab and the seller did not pack it tight, whereas, there was PLENTY of room for it to be shaken around in transit, would you ask for a refund or just move on? There does not seem to be VISIBLE damage but who knows what is unseen if it was ever to be re-graded. I don't know, I might be a drama queen. To pay that much & not have the confidence in the grade anymore due to the seller not taking the time to pack it with extra bubble wrap, newspaper, unwanted beanie babies, leaves from the yard, I don't care...just pack it tight ppl!
  12. Yeah, I am talking about 9.8's mostly. ASM 300 might have been organic due to the movie because that's when I noticed it blowing it up in prices. Now X-Men #129 seems to be artificial, a while back someone paid 10k for it & that's what everyone was trying to get. Thankfully it may not be sticking as one just sold for 4k.
  13. I'd only do it if it is PGX. I straight up rather have a 9.6 CGC slab then a 10.0 PGX one. I'm shocked that their website isn't just full of animated gifs and a MIDI file playing in the background. They will always be that type of company to me.
  14. To me it seems very stressful. You either have to never get it re-holdered or risk losing it all in doing so. Who knows what the difference is between a 9.8 & a 9.9 is to CGC, so we won't even get into the grader it lands on.
  15. Just seems like time would catch up & lower the grade, even if you did your best to keep it away from UV lights, water, sharp objects, TNT, etc. Just consider how delicate slabs can be & how arbitrary grading seems to be at times. Someone out there owns a 9.9 IH #181. Wonder what they are doing. Anyone want to guess how much it's worth in today's market? Before anyone asks, no I am not that person Anyways, thoughts on this?
  16. Thanks for letting me know about Gocollect, didn't know that existed. I will have to check it out. You're lucky if you never ran into what I am talking about on eBay. It's not rampant, but it's common enough where it seems like a legit tactic. Don't know how often it sticks but it can happen. If one person sells something for X amount, the next seller will never sell for less unless they're desperate or a beginner. For example, look at X-Men #244, a common book that typically sells for $200 to $250. Someone decided to pay double for no reason and now everyone wants $400 to $500. I can't confirm the scam I talked about caused this, but I brought it up to show what the intention is for sellers who use the false sale tactic I am talking about. It also shows inflation can stick. I doubt we'll see this sell for $200 ever again.
  17. This is what I am starting this thread for, first to find out if inflating is against their rules then to get others to watch out for this stuff & report it too. From the responses I am getting (which is not much) I take it most of us are sellers.
  18. EBay does not care, however the seller that sell slabs on there do. Am I the only one that negotiates? When did that become sus? When you negotiate the seller often throws the inflated GPA prices back in your face, they treat it as gospel & will start a crusade if you say otherwise. I'm not here saying prices can't rise, as long as it's organic, it's cool. But just alot of shady stuff happens, just want to know if eBay allows this kind of practices.
  19. With that said, I see a ton of Stan Lee sig books with no relevance to him whatsoever. It's really annoying because sometimes it will be the only one but often be 10x more than GPA. I'm not sure I would even buy it even if it was around GPA, it would have to be at a reduced price for me to consider it. Otherwise I rather wait for a blue to appear.
  20. I prefer blue for the most part, the only time I care for yellow is when it's a first appearance of a character signed by the actual creators (writer/artist). I really don't see a point otherwise tbh.
  21. That's fine, but all it takes is one time (which I am sure eBay will not notice unless otherwise brought to attn). The inflated price is recorded, other sellers take notice, edit their listings, then the waiting begins for the "ignorant" buyer. I have actively witnessed this. It may not work out, but it's a gamble most sellers are willing to risk I bet.
  22. Yes I am sure. Ebay still has the inflated value listed & GPA is still taking into account the "false" sale. I am not saying this is the sole reason we are paying a premium for everything, but it's definitely one of the many reasons why. When you can track sales & listings, sometimes it's obvious. What other reason is there for someone to overpay GPA by $500 when there are cheaper listings available; then that same sale/slab ends up being relisted days later. Once other sellers catches on, they end up raising their prices too. Thanks for the heads up on reporting to GPA though. I will at least be doing that.
  23. I just want to get some feedback from the people here who have been purchasing from eBay. Has anyone notice that some sellers will sell a book for a silly amount over GPA then a couple of days later that same book is back on sale? This increases value by eBay & GPA's metrics, which does not take into account non-payment. Anyone know if I can report this as against ToS so eBay can at least investigate? Not worth my time? Shady practices like that is one of the reasons why we are all paying absurd amount for slabs that used to be worth $200 a month ago. If I can stop one seller from doing it, I will.
  24. Couple questions about this if anyone know. 1) Has anyone tested to see how long someone might be able to get away with storing it upright (before staple implosion)? 2) Honestly I feel like most collectors stores it upright, every seller/dealer I see at cons store it this way as well. If storing that way causes such damage it's a wonder why CGC will not come out and say something. With that said, is it possible that this is just conjecture and not a fact? With the gun safe thing, it's been proven & CGC even had to make a statement about it. 3) Just to be clear when people say spine side down, it means that the spine is at the top pointing down towards the base, correct? To me it seems the other way would put more pressure on the spine. I don't have a clue about this though. 4) Someone mentioned laying flat is the best, what about a shelf that can display at a 135 degree angle, is that enough to take away pressure & the effects of gravity? Anyways, thanks for the response & help. Just want to get to the bottom of this so I can better store my slabs.
