  1. Ah okay, so OP paid by one of those options to get it waived. Yeah, CL is one of the "nicer" places with their buyer fees. They just charge a flat 3% fee. Do you know what Heritage charges? Their buyer's premium is 20% of your winning bid, a high handling fee (to be fair they do pack nicely), a 3% charge to pay by credit card, and your local state tax. I really don't understand how they can get away with all that when you put it in the context you are talking about.
  2. Not sure if I am reading this right, but is there a circumstance where you can opt out of paying the buyer's premium? Thought that was non negotiable everywhere at all the auction houses.
  3. After reading that laundry list above you I am starting to see the appeal in collecting raws. Now here we are hoping our book returns safe in a timely manner is a pipe dream from a grading company. What happened?
  4. It would probably be cheaper and faster to just buy a high grade slab from eBay and be done with it, If you're even reading this thread anymore, apparently all the no's you got crushed you.
  5. Sounds like a person that can only afford a Superpro #6...in 3.0 grade...purple label...at a 50% discount. But you keep telling yourself labels don't matter renegade. I'm just kidding If it makes you happy I'm not going to do anything about the label. I wanted to see what this was about or if there were changes to labeling. CGC isn't the same company it was two years ago and I haven't been keeping up.
  6. Curious, did you just accept this and move on or plan to reholder? I wonder if the mentality for people who get errors like this consider it unique or prefer something to be in a more "official" capacity. I know it's a to each their own type of deal, but it's nice to get opinions. More specifically to my issue, I wonder how missing page quality reflects upon the actual grade to others. Like you said, it should be a part of every grade and be error checked so that it isn't missing. It seems like they didn't even bother checking page quality because it's missing on the label and cert lookup. Doesn't instill confidence in their grading system either as this may go past a clerical issue if graders glossed over this, but who knows. Sounds like missing page quality isn't the norm though and judging by the reactions so far my issue is not surprising to anyone either.
  7. How much more helpful would that really be? It's the newer label graded last year (2021). Just imagine a label with literally no page color note. In the case of this label it would typically be right under the grade.
  8. Thanks, I probably won't bother reholdering at all is my feeling right now. It is a modern title in 9.8 grade from the 90's so I might go with the assumption that it is white pages. This is the first time I ran into something like this, but just checking if I am missing something as there are policy & grading changes I am sure I wasn't aware of. Quicker to get a answer here than emailing CGC, but I will probably do that as well. Thanks again Revat. Believe it or not, the page color is missing from the certificate lookup as well. It's like CGC graders didn't even bother checking for it. There must be a grader there who's being lazy, lol. Thanks for your input, I think I agree with you about not sending it back.
  9. On the flip side of reholdering... I submitted for a reholder last year and still have not received part of the order back. They are apparently swamped all across the board, including customer service because they do not return emails in any efficient manner either. The main reason for the hold up is because one of the books got damaged so something returning a lower grade from a reholder is very possible. CGC said it got damaged in shipping or when cracking it open. Either way, CGC does not take liability and will charge you for grading service plus the extras if you want it re-cased. At this point the only free option is to have the book sent back to you raw. Like all things, experience will vary but things can happen as my experience shows.
  10. Just bought a book and it does not have page color indicated like most other slabs. There is no page color field when doing a certification lookup as well but all other information is correct to the label. Couple questions, does CGC have a reason to do this now or is this a QC thing? How bothered would you be by this as far as owning it goes? Used to be where I would just do a re-holder and move on but CGC takes a year now to do something as simple as that (speaking from personal experience). I also can't trust them like I used to when cracking open slabs (also speaking from personal experience). I have to be more selective. Thanks for any help/advice.
  11. Anyone else expected to see X-Men #1 from the 60's in like 2.0 condition but got this instead? If turnaround times were faster I would say go nuts, but currently it takes CGC 2 months & up to just open what you sent to them.
  12. It's not about wither it's perfectly centered or not, but wither it can get pinched or rubbed against the inner chamber. Just seems like it could potentially be an issue if books can shift around. I was wrong about it being something from this year only though. Here's an example from a book graded years prior that sort of illustrates what I am talking about... Go to the bottom of the book. This is not the best example because there is a very tiny sliver of space but it would at least give you an idea what I am talking about. I only noticed this because the last book I bought was pressed against the indent of the inner well & there is a very small color breaking tick mark. Could have been there during grading who knows. Going by responses I guess I have nothing to worry about.
  13. Hey, thanks for the response. I was trying to get the general feel about this. It isn't the fact that they are not perfectly centered but more so the pinching that can happen I am worried about. If the new cases are designed to have the book be completely secure I suppose it's safe. It's definitely prevalent with any books graded this year. I bought 6 all graded this year and it's always the same thing. Either touching the indent of the bottom or top. Mostly bottom, I only have one touching the top. Thanks again, a new member & you're already a big help.
  14. No disrespect to CGC but I doubt they are that nice to offer free pre-screening (which usually requires a submission of 50+ books). If you requested a pressing they are going to do it wither the books benefits or not. Sounds like it is an error imo. Keep us posted if you can, be nice to know that CGC will take care of you like that.
  15. Can the costume only count as a first appearance if it makes no mention of the character who wears it? Like Gwenpool, Spidergwen had a tiny bit of controversy about her first appearance because the costume made an appearance in a book before Edge of Spider-verse. Said appearance was explained by the writer that it's a cosplayer wearing the Spidergwen costume not the actual character.
  16. Is this intentional by CGC? Every book I have that's graded and slabbed this year always seem to sit right on top or right on the bottom of the inner chamber. I mean there is literally zero space in between the book and the indentation of the inner chamber; they are touching each other. The books are designed to not shift around in there, correct? With issues in the past that includes warping, newton rings, puddling, etc, I want to make sure this isn't a big deal and common.
  17. It's nice that we can go online & just ask "I got stuff! How do I make tons of easy money off it?" Anyways, simplest way would probably be to consign your books or sell directly to the auction houses. There is no easy "most profitable" way. Current market & luck will determine that. I think auctioning may be the best way to get the most if you can get two people infected with "fear of missing out." It's obviously a gamble though. I wouldn't count on these boards to max your sale. Most buyers here know the market enough to not over pay. Most sellers also know not to price gouge so 95% of the time you get a tiny discount from GPA. If you sell here it's more about forming a bond & lasting relationships, which can be worth more than any amount of money, right? If you're asking which auction house is the best, then I can't answer that. Oh yea, if you're extremely patient, just list on eBay for 1000% more current market then hope for that golden goose. That seems to be a strategy too.
  18. Typically raw books not yet graded by CGC will always sell for alot less. It's not unusual to see a raw book sell for half versus a CGC graded book in the same grade. Really just depends on how hot the book is, but the due diligence is mostly on you in that case. Now for what he said about grading, that's shady as heck as others have already said. Sounds like the guy just wants to profit off your ignorance because he's definitely not forthcoming with that.
  19. In 30 years all the kids will be getting NFTs graded and trading those.
  20. I obviously know what that is...but you know, why don't you explain that for all the "newbs" here.
  21. Can there be people who love the book but also want the absolute best available? Unfortunately the label factors into that. I can see why people might hate on what you described though. They got to be one of many reasons why prices are so high. Take a look at these, keep in mind I am a modern collector, so just showing what's going on with "first appearances" over there. Prices all based on 9.8 & if possible the most in demand variant cover... Miles Morales - 15k Kamala Kahn - 10k Spidergwen - 10k America Chavez - 4k Riri Williams - 3k Young Avengers - 2k Moongirl - 2k Amadeus Cho - 1.5k Viv Vision - 1k Silk - 1k You know what, any character you can think of in modern era, you can expect to pay 1k (variant or otherwise). Prices like above is why I am so paranoid & being "secretive." Anything seems to raise prices here. I mean I'm just a fan, I don't want to flip this! I doubt it's even possible. Unfortunately I am getting priced out if I want any 9.8's. I don't know, I guess I'll go buy some Sinatra books
  22. It has for buyers as far as all things collectible go. Every single seller is convinced their "vintage" 2019 PS4 game is worth 1k or a graded Spiderman with the 747th appearance of Venom is worth 10k. I kid a bit, but it is bad. Every time you ask for FMV from people like that, the response is always the same, "this is priced at what it WILL BE, not what it is now." I blame the lousy tactics by sleazy sellers for those kind of listings. Not to say there isn't legitimate interest, but some of the prices are Jame Bond villain type of delusional because you can't reason with them either. Even if you do offer a couple hundred more than GPA or last sold, they need that sweet 75% mark up. The only positive thing I can say is those sellers do have the patience of a saint. I'd still see the same listings many months or even years later still at the same price; I just don't mess with them anymore though. Just want to add, you do have ****** buyers like what Buzz has to deal with as well, above isn't shade at them. It's directed at sellers who manipulate.
  23. "Einstein & Hitler cameo" Something I never would have expected to read on a CGC label Thanks for sharing. What does this mean exactly and why do people hate that so much here? Does it include people who care about the grade & color of the label as well?
  24. You would think one would supply proof for something like that. I never caught that part either way though. I'll be more mindful about it when talking about PGX. However their labels are still ugly to me.
  25. Are you still in touch with a person like this? Great story btw.
