  1. It's not really a red flag because most sellers I've seen state that in the sale desc. I thought I read a few with the reason why that's the case, something to do with a third party grading the book or what not, I can't remember. I'm just guessing they got burned by too many people who got buyer's remorse in a market with alot of arbitrary prices at times. Still I'm a little annoyed the seller wasn't up front with that dent, now that is a little shady. You should still contact them about it and see if they are willing to refund tho, your case sounds reasonable.
  2. You check out the thread about a book with a bent staple getting a 9.8? That should be a classic example of what a 9.6 looks like because other than that, it looks sharp. Seeing a book that looks like a 9.8 get a 9.6 is just disheartening, lol. I doubt a book with any inside rips and tears will be getting a 9.6 so wonder what it could be?
  3. Hey thanks for the info, it's sorta what I figured. I guess I was hoping to hear something to motivate me into pressing/re-subbing vs it being a complete waste of time & money. Looking at the book there isn't any visible flaws & a ongoing thread about a crooked staple getting a 9.8 makes me wonder.
  4. Anyone have any success stories on what they did or even some general insight about this? If you get a 9.6 is it possible to say you got a super picky grader & try it again? NOT to insult anyone's grading standards, I'm glad they are there. It's just the grades seem too close together to say you can't get it up there in my opinion. Thanks!
  5. Well this thread is a eye opener, wow. So storing the books vertically in the standard CGC boxes is actually bad for them? Anyone else have any problems? This sucks because storing them vertically is the most practical and convenient method for me. Can anyone recommend boxes that allow them to be stored flat or as was suggested spine down? If I were to do it for my current boxes I'd only manage to put away like 10, lol.
  6. Thanks all for the responses! Sadly, I am left with the same mixed feelings I had on wither to re-holder a 9.9/10 book. Getting some mixed but nice feedback. If they simply don't bother looking at it & just re-case it, then it wouldn't be an issue. Bomber-Bob brought up a good point, between shipping & cracking, anything can happen (like the person who mentioned a 9.9 killing joke coming back a 9.8). Hopefully a few more people will speak up on wither they would do it or not.
  7. Ha! That's funny to me. Really wish I can see it tho. Thanks for letting me know, I've been wondering this for the longest. Really? I thought I read somewhere a very long time ago that they do re-grade the book even with a re-holder, but that's really good to hear (and comforting).
  8. Just curious what people's thoughts are on this. If you have a very valuable 9.9 or 10.0 book, would you ever have it re-holdered...like ever? Is it worth the risk or is it just better to leave it in the original case indefinitely? Anyone have any experience with this? How'd it go? Also, anyone else notice with 9.9 labels that the part with the grade is very faded? Any reason for that? Thanks all!
