  1. OP might be a legit silver surfer seller in real life, I ran into a few before. We just don't know. Wish we knew the truth though.
  2. Thanks! I thought I was doing something wrong that I didn't know about. I mean I shouldn't be surprised about anything tbh, found out sunscreen might cause cancer now. Apparently I was protecting myself wrong from the sun all this time too. So yea, like I said, shouldn't be surprised that closets are bad to store things now too,
  3. Why are closets bad to store slabs? What if the slabs are bagged and boxed, would that make it okay?
  4. I feel your pain, same here, some times twice a day always from different numbers. They gonna keep doing this until I buy their "warranty" to get them to stop
  5. I'm wondering the same, looks like a free magazine sample they give away in stores to me, but I'm no Pokemon expert. CGC will grade magazines too btw. To sort of answer your question, going by the comics I know that came polybagged, doubt CGC will let you keep the book sealed up if you want to grade thru them. As for authentication, you will probably have better luck finding a dedicated Pokemon board & asking there.
  6. How did you even get to that site? Were you googling "sus as heck CGC comics" then hit feeling lucky?
  7. That's a pretty bad take. On one hand you have Hulk 181 featuring the first appearance of one of the most beloved x-man, with an iconic cover done by a artist who is no longer with us, in demand by way more people than the supply, with decades of stability when factoring inflation...on the other, you got Ronald McDonald Adventures #23 only copy graded in census. Your logic says the latter is & will be worth more. Unless you're teaching OP that value is all about what's in our hearts as if this hobby is some Nickelodeon special, I wouldn't suggest that. Might as well just tell him to take his money and bet it all on 43 black.
  8. to your copy of 180! Even signed by the creators of Wolvie too. Not trying to derail the thread but I am on the side where I consider that his first appearance & would be after a copy of that first before 181. Thanks for the examples, it gives me & hope that prices can fall. I still feel like it's unlikely but at least you can show that it does happen. I do agree that the book is not worth 1k (even more so now that you mentioned how common it is) but I just sold mine for over that so people are out there paying that price for it. Until buyers smarten up & sellers are willing to understand flukes can happen, these prices will be around for a while. Just can't see either happening. Even if I wanted to sell some stuff now I wouldn't lowball it so I understand what sellers are doing.
  9. I sold it because I had no personal attachment to it because it came out way before my time. Not really iconic to me
  10. No, in fact it's the ONLY book I was willing to sell from my personal collection in this high demand seller's market. With that said I 100% feel like the current prices now are here to stay tho. It will go up then come back down to it's current price as the new normal. That one guy talking about a trailer will not create buzz failed to realize this will be Wolverine's first MCU appearance with a new actor on top of many MCU fans probably not being born when the first X-Men movie came out so this might be their 1st introduction. It will never be $500 again, but still not a worthy "investment" imo as there are better keys to buy with 1.5k. Not many GRADED 9.8 KEY slabs sky rocket in prices & come back down. 1st Spidergwen still sells for 2k despite the movie being out for over 3 years. You guys seriously telling me if I wait 5 years it will be back down to $300 again? The "vets/experts" that are here, tell me when has this ever happened? I haven't been collecting long enough but I can tell you the few years I have, I've only seen prices go up on keys.
  11. Oh that's my long winded way of saying you should buy the book now. ONLY IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT!!!!!
  12. I'm not a expert or promise anything (yea the fact I lead with that says you should listen to me, right? lol)...anyways, it's going to get way worse before it gets better and when it does get better, it will just end up back full circle to it's current price of $1200. That's just my opinion based upon my experience with books that I want. In your case, prices are only based on rumors, when the actual Wolverine trailer comes out, expect to pay quadruple. When the movie comes out, double that quadruple. This is the deal, every time a book sells, a seller with that book gets notified by a magic crow. That seller will then double the price from it's very last sale and wait it out for a rich bozo, er "well informed lovely person" to swoop in and buy it up. Rinse, repeat until collecting comics just becomes a celebrity trend like buying dinosaur fossils or time shares (I dunno what celebrities buy). Only way you're gonna find a deal or FMV, is to pray someone gets down on their luck & have to make a quick sale, then you can probably buy what you want at 20% off. Hopefully you can figure out which parts are meant to be facetious, but there's some truth into it. Look at X-Men 129 CGC 9.8 right now, last sale was last month for 5k, now people want 15k for no reason other than playing a game of top this. You might think 15k is ridiculous for it, but guaranteed someone will pay that & that officially becomes the new bargain price. I say bargain price because you will hope you can see that price again. All the sellers will just mark up the next sale. Really, it won't get better unless we all stop buying or the actual economy crashes. If it's the latter, you better not be buying comics.
  13. If I give you a list to bet against, think you can buy into it to drive prices down? But I'm right there with you & definitely share your pain. It was asked earlier but where is the money coming from??? Case in point, I go to negotiate for a book on eBay asking for GPA but sellers are all stuck in speculative prices marked up by 50% or more. Some are willing to budge for $100 or $200 over GPA, but I was still like forget that, I'll get it later cheaper from a seller with decency. You know what happens? Someone buys it for their asking price! No argument, no bargaining, someone looked at the 50% mark up & said ******* great deal, let me at it! This has happened more than I like, enough times to make me believe for one second there is a conspiracy theory that big Comics are buying each other's books to drive the prices up, So yea, great time to be sellers. There are alot of people who want to over pay because there's too much money in the economy right now (I guess). I said overpay because it blows my mind how a book sells for $1800 and two months later it's worth $3500 simply because a seller asked for that. I guess I can't complain, someone paid that price, in that case that's what the book is worth now for years to come.
  14. Right on man, not saying I agree with you but admire that you can speak your mind here. The worst word I'm willing to say is bozo, even that might be too provocative
  15. No one was really gatekeeping in here although there is plenty of that in these forums, you got lucky & got actual discussions at least so be happy about that. Did I mention I made a similar topic? As for smart remarks, I remember someone calling me "sad" because I cared for a grade over a sig in a GRADING forum where I am collecting GRADED books, lol. Although the poster wasn't joking unlike many in here. Since you got the answers you wanted, it's all in good fun. I'm saying there is a "humor" award for posts you know, hint hint, wink wink, shake shake As far as your point with the thread. There is no real stability in the market especially when dealing with moderns to give you a solid cut and dry answer. I was hoping for one too but had to go digging by looking at metrics available online. Actually I was really hoping to hear, yeah market will go down, just wait it out & buy, lol. No one will commit to that though. Anyways, for now try GPA, there's a monthly $11 fee but it will show you the current market trend if you're seriously into buying & selling.
  16. In this day & age, "personal contact" is reserved for super special occasions only.
  17. Has their operation moved out of their parent's garage??? How about stop being thieves?! The former is heresay I heard, but some years ago someone detailed their experience how PGX stole their copy of TMNT and replaced it with a reprint hoping they would not notice. Sorry but just doing that once is enough to sour me from them forever. Do not care if they changed location, changed their name, got new owners, give out smiley face stickers with their grades...the stigma is stuck with me. Especially when you have CGC & CBCS. The latter does not sell as high unless it's a major key from what I have seen.
  18. That's the easier way for sure, but not the smart way. It would have been a perfect plan if you said Transformers instead of GI Joe.
  19. I'm more upset at what I missed than happy about what I have that gone up. Mostly because I do not intend to sell anytime soon, if at all. But books that I wanted and was like I can get them later for $100 are now 2k. I joke alot in this thread, but that last statement is truth
  20. I guess I'll take it upon myself to give the real investment advice here. Obviously the snobs do not want to share their secrets, but I got you... 1) Buy any Peach Mononoke variant you can find! People are paying 1k for these and it's 100% unverified FACT that anyone with Peach in the name has staying power. These covers are hot hot HOT now & will forever be. 2) News stand books, buy them up! Boomers are all about these because it reminds them of a time when they can go to their grandpa's malt liquor shoppe and buy a coke and a comic for a hay penny. We know boomers are perpetual, so these will always be in demand. Buy that Fool Killer news stand & in 5 years watch yourself pay for college. 3) Cheap Stan Lee signature books. Sell super high and wait for that rich soccer mom who wants to buy their kid a surprise birthday gift because he's the only character in EVERY marvel movie that mattered! Here you have it, go get rich
  21. I feel like this quote will have more value over the long term than investing in comics But yea, pay good attention to number 2, that's what factors into my decision if I'm buying any books lately. Most of the time I say forget that. Refuse to give into the price gougers because one ***** decided he wanted to borrow from his 401k to buy a Squirrel Girl Dubstep cover variant. I know I sound bitter but I want to say I do not fault anyone here for selling high in the marketing section. Honestly 99% of people that sell here realize the prices can be flukes and try to give a break instead of arbitrarily selling high.
  22. In another thread, a person said that the post office will pay for damaged CGC books if it's insured. Edit: Just wanted to ask is the damage around the staples? That's terrible that can happen after encapsulation, someone had to shake that thing pretty hard.
