... speaking of which, is that cap #1 that just came up "legit"? The seller has low feedback, no feedback for the last 12 months, and what feedback he has is not comics related.

I had that one bookmarked for months... just fantasizing. No way I could afford that one. I found the exact book on heritage. Back then it was a 2.5 and unsigned. Looks like it got cleaned, un-spine-rolled and probably pressed.

On the subject of trimming - I recently bought a book that had been taken out of a purple label case. I have since found the exact book in a heritage auction (still in the case) from 2003. Now, the label didn't mention trimming, but the first thing that made me suspicious about the book was that the artwork comes very close to the edge of the page on most pages (with some of the speech balloons getting cut off the side of the page); but also, on close inspection, many of the page edges have a very tiny fold right along the edge. So, I guess I have two questions for the experts:
1) Did cgc do a good job of detecting trimming on or prior to 2003? That is, if a book was slabbed during or prior to 2003, can we feel safe that cgc was vigilant about detecting trimming as they are now? Because, like I said, the label made no mention of trimming, but it sure looks trimmed.
2) Is a little microfold along many page edges a reliable sign of trimming?

Funny... I didn't notice it was a Jerry Robinson copy. Maybe that explains the price. All that ink is probably Jerry Robinson pointing his brush.

This book is on far... check out how fast this one sold, and check out what it sold for.
Edit: well, I guess there is no way to tell from the auction how fast it sold, but I know it was listed either last night or this morning, because it wasn't there last night.

How about some links on grading? Not just the generic fluff you find in overstreet, but specifics on how CGC arrives at their grades. Like, an explanation for what their grader terms mean (like "whole book crunch") and how much they deduct for each little thing.

Why does the label on this book say "1 page Stan Lee text story"??? It's a 2 page story.

Just received a little something in the mail today and I'm 'giddy' as this is my All-Time Grail:
Holy spoon.

The JIM 85 got here safe and sound. Thanks!

Well, this thread shows a good reason why your window bags should have transparent fronts...

The answer I have been reading is that he transfers his mind into the body of his twin brother (who was born a vegetable). But then, this begs the next question - why is he still in a wheelchair? Does his twin brother also just happen to be paralyzed?

And another question... what is the rule on putting extra microchamber paper inside a book? On golden age, thick books, it seems to me that some extra microchamber paper spaced throughout could be beneficial. Or, is this considered to be harmful?

Also, what do we do with the old cgc labels if we opened a case? Do we put the label in the window bag somewhere? I'm hoping the right thing to do is put it inside the comic (inside front cover)....

Early on in this thread, someone suggested just cutting through the backing board, and using that as your window instead of tape. That seems like a better idea to me than the tape method, because there is absolutely no danger of any stickiness, since there is no tape. But, no one seems to be echoing the idea... any reason?

I have a comic that is currently green-labeled because it has pages missing, and its grade is 3.0. If I got it signed so that it becomes a signature-series, what will be the color of the resulting label, and what will the grade be? Will it get knocked down to a 0.5?

Wow... I see in your profile that was your most desired collectible. Well, it was mine too. I didn't see that auction. I wish I had, but probably wouldn't have mattered - I think that low feedback would have scared me right off. That's got to be the score of a lifetime.
I did manage recently to win that cap #4 on ebay (the low grade unrestored one). Hoping to get it cleaned, and pressed maybe. Not sure if that's such a great idea on such an old book though. I would love to get it signed by stan.

The best day I've had as a comic collector has come today...I got my all-time grail book:
Wow... would absolutely love to have that one. Now, just get a stan lee sig on it (it's his first published work for timely) while he's still giving sigs, and that would be my ideal book.
Mind if I ask how/where you came by it?

Also, a cap #2 came up just two days ago, with a BIN of $800, so it seems we have two consolation prizes available to us.... (it even took several hours to sell.)
