You're neglecting the biggest aspect of comics. Comics for all the decades that have been in prevalence, have been directly, and indirectly connected with the American cinema culture. And never more so than the last decade. Nearly anyone who see's a movie now, know they're watching a Marvel, or a DC movie. Not Warner, Columbia, or United Pictures film, it's Marvel, or DC. It's a story of fantasy and high drama, with characters building on established genre. The comic book, and it's more popular characters are being iconised for the next 50 years, and beyond. The executives in charge of these films are well aware of the phenomena they are creating, bringing characters and storylines to the celluliod(4K) stage. Comic books are the inception, and the life blood of these films, and like so many things, people pursue where it all started.
