  1. The final accepted offer was $36k as shown in the original link I provided and as also reflected now on GPA. -J.
  2. I'm starting to think you're just making things up now. Batman 1 has A LOT more copies on the census than Cap 1, in both blue label and overall, has been more readily available than Cap 1 for at least the last few years, and that might also have something to do with why Cap 1 has edged past Bats 1 in similar recent grade for grade pricing. -J.
  3. Yes, Tec 27 (Batman's actual first appearance) does sell for more than a Cap 1 (his first appearance). And Batman was not the first "dark hero" prowling the streets either, he was a copy of (inspired by) the Shadow if I'm not mistaken. So all things being equal, that again would make Cap 1 the more "complete" book compared to Bats 1 which is more or less a consolation prize at this point for people who can't own a Tec 27. (And there havrbeen far fewer sales of Cap 1 compared to Bats 1 the last few years, but in the few like for like sales Cap 1 has sold for slightly more than Bats 1 recently). -J.
  4. The first appearance of the Joker, and to a much lesser extent, Catwoman, is exactly what Bats 1 does have going for it. The big glaring knock is that it isn't the first appearance of the titular hero, or even Robin. Ergo it is not the "most comprehensive GA book out there" by a longshot and is being passed by Cap 1 (which, as previously eloquently explained by Wayne-Tec, makes a far better case for being a "comprehensive GA book" than Bats 1 ever will). -J.
  5. They are close. Bats 1 has been coming up for sale publicly way more often then Cap 1 last couple/few years though. Looking at GPA, recent sales in very similar grades has them in a virtual dead heat. If anything, the recent sale of the 1.0 Cap 1 would put it slightly ahead of Bats now, but again there are so few public like for like sales it's a literally toss up for the time being IMO, but I do believe Cap 1 will eventually pull away for good. -J.
  6. By your logic, the only two comic books that anyone should care about or carry any palpable significance are Action 1 and Superman 1, since the best that any other comic book could hope for after those is to be "the first appearance of a bunch of new characters". You spent a lot of words saying it, but that's ridiculous. -J.
  7. Well evidently the "brittle pages" on the label might have discouraged some people from bidding, no matter how good it looked from the front, so $36k is low for a 1.0. It may have gone for 40 or more(?) if it didn't say "brittle", which I would imagine would put a decent blue 0.5 at around $30k. -J.
  8. $36k for that 1.0. http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item=322569990499&item_hash4=c0444641&LH_Complete=1&LH_BIN=1&_pgn=1&rc=nt&_trksid=p3750801.m370.h1613&rmvSB=true&ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F711-53200-19255-0%2F1%3Fff3%3D4%26campid%3D5335849815%26toolid%3D10034%26customid%3DeBay-US_go-url_-76d1aaf11675--www.watchcount.com-ilu.ihist.322569990499.-_wcc%26mpre%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Foffer.ebay.co.uk%252Fws%252FeBayISAPI.dll%253FViewBidsLogin%2526item%253D322569990499%2526item_hash4%253Dc0444641%2526LH_Complete%253D1%2526LH_BIN%253D1%2526_pgn%253D1%2526rc%253Dnt%2526_trksid%253Dp3750801.m370.h1613%26srcrot%3D711-53200-19255-0%26rvr_id%3D1251340815238 -J.
  9. There were no retracted bids in the auction in question, the seller left feedback for the buyer, and I'm quite certain it isn't unheard of in the history of comics that someone has bought or sought to own more than one copy of a book. And damn, a 9.8 SS reprint of the book just went for $775. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spider-man-678-Quinones-La-Mole-Variant-CGC-SS-9-8-STAN-LEE-DAN-SLOTT-/361924080180?hash=item54445b3234:g:sU8AAOSw4A5YwSrw -J.
  10. The image with the zombie Spider-Man is in the link to the CAF above. -J.
  11. I notified GPA the sale was a fraud and they removed the record from their website. Last actual public sale of a 9.8 is now back in December, 2015. -J.
  12. Yes that's weird. Now you can only do it after the deal closes. Assuming it's closed through eBay. -J.
  13. Without a doubt he's getting offers. He's holding for a strong price. He knows what he has. -J.
  14. I'm wondering too. I would definitely be interested in buying it. I like it better with the zombie Spider-Man too. -J.
  15. Fair enough. If you think that's water staining then no that couldn't be cleaned. I just thought it looked dirty. Could be a combo of both. But if a 1.5 is still a $40k-ish book or a 1.8 even, then no it's not worth it. There's a 2.5 with a $78k offer on c link. So maybe it would be a win even at a 1.8. I just feel like with the cover attached it had a chance at a 2.0 if handled with care, and if the pages were perhaps graded too harshly back in the early 2000s when that book was likely graded (and CGC was generally stricter). I was just thinking out loud (in a manner of speaking) but I see a potential combo of factors that could work out for someone with a penchant for such things. -J.
  16. Are you deliberately ignoring the context of what I'm saying ? Or is it just flying over your head? -J.
  17. CGC calls a book "brittle" even if just a small portion or area of pages is brittle , no? If the spine is strong you can do a press. If a grader was just overly harsh that day maybe it comes back "tan to cream". Who knows. Either way , low risk. And if a restored 0.5 is a $20k book, $40k for a potentially "upgradeable" blue 1.0 looks about right to me. Does that mean I think cap 1 is a "40k a point" book? No, not just yet. But as you yourself have said, there's greater pricing pressures in the lower grades. -J.
  18. Yes I know all of the above. There's still nothing to lose cracking it out and sending it in raw. As we all know the "PQ" on labels changes quite frequently on re-subs, especially with first gen labels. If CCS gets the book and says "hey this is brittle we better not try pressing it", then so be it. They can still clean it, and even that would likely improve the grade. Or they could just reslab it with the same grade at a minimal cost. Either way, the risk is small and the potential upside is fairly huge. -J.
  19. Man I would love to own that. Thank you for sharing. -J.
  20. Well that just sucks. Sales price seemed somewhat low to me. Now I know why. I'm sure the guy will get his money back. Looking back at the original listing, there was no clear picture of the serial number on the label. That should have been the first red flag. -J.
  21. I don't know whether to think this is awesome or insane. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spider-Man-300-CGC-9-9-mint-Todd-McFarlane-cover-1-of-10-exist-/222567977450?hash=item33d215d1ea:g:JVwAAOSw1BlZWYtt -J.
