  1. This is the part of cracking a book out that I don't understand. For 1/4 the cost of slabbing, a person can obtain a reprint, can't they? (with the exception of GA books). I can quite understand your point - but I like and want to read the originals hence CRACK THEM SLABS I agree 100%... It's almost like if you had the chance to pick between Scarlett Johansson or someone that looks like her? Even if you gotta spend thousands more in dinning, roses and limos - You gotta go for the real mccoy if you have the chance.
  2. Cracking the book is a breeze, getting the book out of the seal is a whole different ball game.
  3. Great Deal on tightly graded books! Would recommend Highly to others! (thumbs u
  4. Unfortunately I have and it has grown dust for the past month even with several bumps. Anyway I got tired of waiting and just picked up a gold key reprint off of eBay of shacktown. I guess my cash is no good around here.
  5. ah, to try to narrow to one "single" greatest is nary an impossible task, as each Barks fan will no doubt have their favorite... for me, as a scrooge mcduck fan, I have to say FC 178...but your milage will vary (thumbs u Thank you! "Christmas at Bear Mountain" featuring the first appearance of Scrooge is an excellent choice. I also have a special fondness for Donald Duck 26 "Trick or Treat" and FC 367 "A Christmas for Shacktown" I am looking for a decent copy of Shacktown to read, if someone has a spare they want to flip please pm me. Thanks _wally
  6. Got a great deal on a nice set of books! They were spot on, packaged great and shipped fast. What more could you ask for???
  7. Even though I really like 227, there are a couple of side factors that makes this a lesser key than some of the other Adams Bats. It is a homage cover of a great GA cover. There are pluses and minuses to this, but I would only think a 100% original would fit into this category. Also in the case of 227 only the cover was created by Adams and not the story's pencils/inks. Again, I love this book - but I wouldn't call it "the" top key.
  8. I have gotten into cracking slabs myself. It's a good feeling. I saw a master a work a few weeks ago when a durham bud cracked the HG slab and ripped the inner well open with his bare hands without any book damage.
  9. I never really played D&D that much, but I sure loved to look at and draw creatures from the Monster Manuals.
  10. Or someone should start a thread about them. I was talking about a photo reference webpage that had all the books in order according to title and release date...
  11. Has anyone ever seen a Marvel Picture Frame cover site? I was thinking of creating one.
  12. Has it ever been discussed why this particular design was created? Not to get too deep on this subject but I like pop culture history enough to have may own theory. I feel that Marvel whipped this design template up to stand up to the number one competition of a child through young adult reader for entertainment of this time period which was color TV. Color TV was on the horizon by 1966 because it became affordable enough for most middle class families to buy and have. And by the 1970's the full swing of programming was into gear and Marvel wanted to compete. Maybe it was that and the fact that they wanted to build a bridge to their own Marvel characters that predominantly in cartoon series at the time. Either way, I came to this assumption through not only the TV box shape but because these covers could do what TV could not and that is break the plain of the box. I love that as a design feature, because it causes a 3D type effect. No other artist was better at exploring this that the main one for this series and that was Kaine. It makes me wonder.
  13. Nice list. Has it ever been mentioned which covers are the most rare and difficult to find in a decent grade (VF up)
  14. Interesting. Any added value? These are worth Billions of dollars... in 3098.
  15. That's quite a naughty list! I'll have to tell Santa to beef up on switches and coal...
  16. I am in the market for a LEGAL SIZE SCANNER and I was wondering how your search went and if you ended up buying one, how were the results?
  17. I wonder if Ewert would sign my AF 15?
  18. Couldn't resist it. Do you have a search spider that sends you an e-mail when your name is mentioned here? It's kind of a trip, but when anybody posts in this thread it's like rubbing a magic lamp and the DC complete genie appears. Anyway, I've said it a dozen times that, even though I am more of a Marvel collector, I must show big props for a collection of this magnitude.
