  1. One way the market could change its mind is if Crossbones actually becomes popular to the point where the people buying the comics are fans of the character and therefore want to read the story. I know if I was a fan of a character and bought a first appearance, I would feel pretty let down when I opened it and found three silent panels.

The problem is that people don't read comics anymore, and they just look at what's on the CGC label. And on that note, what is on the CGC label?

The major point I would concentrate on is the first cover appearance, combined with the first full appearance in 362. People like covers, as they look kewl in their plastic tombs.

As far as the plastic tomb company goes, 359 does not list Crossbones at all, 360 says 1st.

  2. Correct.

I have purchased a consignment book from MCS before. Saw it on eBay - at a decent price - then went to their website and bought it 10% cheaper. However, there is still a 3% "buyer's premium" on top of that.

That part I don't understand, though I don't run an auction house. So I am being charged 3% to buy an item from MCS who in turn charges the seller for selling an item through them? Double-dipping?

That's typical for an auction house. Someone brings them their stuff to sell and the auction house gets a percentage of the sales. They buyer also pays a fee (usually 3-4%). The local auction house by me charges 4% with a 4% discount for cash, so no fee for cash sales.

  3.

it's also a consignment item tho. MCS always lists consignment items at ridiculous prices, usually like 100000x more than they're worth. Books worth $10 will be listed as consignment items for $40.

    $10=40 close to 100,000 x I like that math

i figured with that many zeros, it'd be obvious i was exaggerating. has anyone here ever bought one of MCS's consignment items? i assume they sell some, but i can't understand how.

Doesnt the owner set the price they want to sell at, not MCS, when consigning?

    .

I believe so. You ship the book to them also.

  4. Almost all these Book Market Variants are low printed for all the Marvel titles, every time I see one at a LCS I pick them up.

Anyone out there know where to find list of these book market variants?

Was thinking that myself. Kind of like the DC Universe editions. Quick search turned up some: Ultimates 3 #1

    X-Men Forever Alpha #1

    Models Inc. #1

    Marvel Illustrated: The Illiad #1

    Marvel Illustrated: The Odyssey #1

    Dark Tower Born Gunslinger #1

    Wonderful World of Oz #1

    Amazing Spider-Girl #1 ('06)

    Amazing Spider-Man #546

Anita Blake: The Laughing Corpse #1

    Marvel Super-Hero Squad

    Ultimatium #1

  5. GoTG will be hot until the movie tanks..I hope with all my heart it won't..But I just have a bad feeling about it..

Same here. Too "campy" for my taste.

Almost all the non-comicbook collectors that I know don't even know who or what a Guardians of the Galaxy is. They don't even know that it's from Marvel Comics! :tonofbricks:

I'm surprised non-comic books collectors even know what Marvel Comics is.

  6.

Couldn't agree more, just one example that pops to mind. Think about the Joss Whedon (yes Avengers Joss Whedon) shows that got cancelled, despite being at the top of critics lists and having die hard cult followings. Even once you jump through all the hurdles of getting a pilot to TV, you've got a battle against reality juggernauts and all the other out there to try and secure any kind of cultural impact/renewal and more seasons.

Marc Millar has had a lot of options as well. So far I'm not seeing any pan out.

  7. Would any of you guys hold DMZ 1 cgc 9.8 or sell now?
I would hold at least till a TV show hits air.

Considering how many comics have been optioned for TV and movies, I wouldn't be surprised if 80% of them never make it. Sometimes it's good to sell during the initial rush, since a lot of these books won't make it to TV. Then you're stuck with it.

Very true, Iwould then ask what your ROI at this point would be compared wwith it not ever getting made. Did you invest $40 in a slab? You could break even if it doesn't make it.

  8. I did list it as an auction. It wasn't a buy it now. I put up 4 spider-man books in a lot that were related to & included Carnage's 1st app(2nd prt) in nm condition that got a total of one bid in 7 days.

My Hellblazer #1 NM- in the same time period had a starting bid of $8.88 got 17 bids and a final bid of $23.50.

Yea, there are a bunch of factors that can contribute to an auction not doing well comparatively. Pictures/scans, grade (sometimes listing the grade helps, sometimes not listing a grade and letting people determine on their own is better), do you have other things for sale (if I want to buy something I often look at what I can "bundle" to defer shipping costs over multiple books), how much are you charging for shipping and what service are you using, how much feedback do you have, bidding wars, etc...

  9. Amazing Spider-Man #361 2nd print - $20 to $25.

Venom #1 Gold - $65 to $100ish book these days.

I thougt ASM #361 (2nd print) was hot too, but I just sold 361-363 plus another spider-man in nm for a grand total of $9.99 plus shipping on ebay. Ebay basically sucks.

I did sell a Hellblazer #1 NM- for $23.50 though.

Just because you list a book it doesn't mean it will sell for the going average. A lot of other things come into play like what else the seller has for sale and multiple bidders (bidding war).
