I've been into 1st appearances lately, and this one has 2!  We've got the Humbug (hey - he could drive Venom crazy!) and in the background we've got Solo!  Sure, Solo looks like a purple Dr. Manhattan but that's not his real look.  Plus eventually he gets one of the best tag line ever, "Where he lives - terror dies!"    I really dig this cover too.  These early Web of covers kicked butt!  Here's Web Of Spider-Man #19:

A Mail Call for the Ages!
Last month (in the ComicConnect auction) we saw the liquidation of one of the great EC Collections out there, as part of the "PACole" collection (as some of you surely know, his ECs represented only one of his many uber-impressive collecting strands)  .
@Pacole (aka Phil, who happens to be a boardie) and I go back a ways as collecting buddies - when he was building his collection back in the day, he bought a bunch of my EC undercopies behind the scenes (and he helped me out with a few books here and there, as well). He was also able to amass a bunch of pre-trend books that I have been coveting for years. He messaged me not too long ago to let me know that he was finally "ripping the band-aid off" and auctioning his entire collection (not just his ECs...everything!)...but that message came after the books were already in the hands of ComicConnect       . I understand...
As for the auction...Phil was auctioning so many books, I had to pick my battles going in. Gunfighter was the main battle I decided to pick, and it worked out OK. Phil, we'll miss you. Enjoy life, my friend. I feel privileged that I could drag a few more of your books into my collection on your way out...here's the haul (arrived today):

The man himself, Bernarr was awfully proud of that hair of his .  The mag changes title and format at least a few times.

Ok Boardieland, that is everything! 47 Joe Sinnott personal copies from his Atlas days! I hope everyone has enjoyed this. I’ll keep it open a day or so and then get PM’s out to takers.
Thank you to all takers, lookers, etc. I’m glad to share these, and I’m glad it gave the boards a fun hangout for the week!

I don’t know why you’d think it’s snide or cynical. I sat on the pm, thought on it, got it a second opinion etc for the same reason.  After thinking it over and talking it over, I came to the conclusion that the thread was winding down and any potential homes had found their choices.
I had the thread up for days, multiple boardies have made small stacks with instant grabs, and I had done pm deals on a couple of the straggler books already.
In advance, I tagged lots of people in an announcement and stated no advance sales via PM to keep it fair. I could probably have sold every book via PM just from the announcement. I didn’t limit how many folks could take in the thread, and Blackmask’s take is about as many as I’ve kept for myself. And there’s seven more coming tonight, which will conclude the thread.
So I feel like I have made a strong effort to make them widely available on here at fair prices with everyone getting a shot. That was my thinking.

It was a no brainer once I saw the finished painting. Other than the obvious prelim/finished look to these covers, the main difference that I see is that the finished (unused version) seems to be an animated hand clutching at the door. The used prelim art always left me thinking it was a severed hand lying on the floor.

Ok gang, that is a wrap on the Joe Sinnott personal comp copies that were planned for this thread. Tomorrow night will be the last night of additions, with probably fewer than 10 total books. All will be Joe Sinnott signed personal copies, but not all will be comps — we have two westerns and two pch that the family believes were acquired as back issues as the grades are on the lower end of the range seen here at best. I’ll also look at my stack of keepers from the comp books and make a couple cuts from those on the bubble. There’s a couple pre-code Battle issues I may let go.

Thank you Andy! I completely forgot that from when I shot, which is when it happened. Mark has passed; I will revise grade down to VG range and price down to $100.

Just a heads up, it looks like the cover is detached in the second pic. Might want to double check.
