  1. The CL 25 closed at $810, so I guess Squeggs was closer to the truth than I was. Congrats to whoever won that. I like the new value of the one I own...
  2. Can't wait to see what hidden snipes show up for the CL 25...in 23 minutes...
  3. Not to change the subject from fireplace covers (which are fascinating by themselves) but look at this closing amount for a book I placed one bid on...it finished at $1,725! I think this qualifies as one of the rarer romance books: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=151347407660&ssPageName=ADME:B:ONA:US:3160&autorefresh=true What the heck? Is the winning bidder "s***s" a Mr. Moneybags? Holy crud! And I thought I might go as high as $225, but questioned the sanity of that much for that book...
  4. I don't think that matters...it's the feel-good price you put on stuff that's important... The CL25 is now up to $610 with 2 days to go...I will not be bidding on that book, but i encourage everyone to put in a secret max bid of at least $2,000...
  5. What? I'm losin' money here...I'm losin' money...
  6. Well...Congrats! It's a tough book, and if I'd known that I never would have sold my copy a long time ago...
  7. I agree with everything you just said, but want to add: 1) Many collectors only want certain covers (like me) and will ignore even rare issues that do not meet the criteria. Having said that, I think almost anyone will pick up any Baker romance book if it is priced fairly and in decent condition (myself included).
  8. The TLP #9 is sitting because it is a ratty copy that the person offering it wants too much money for. No other reason. Nobody wants a copy that looks like that...IMO The other books I already commented on...evidently they are over-priced for the condition too. I know I wouldn't pay that much for any of them. Welcome to the forum.
  9. Thanks. Ya know sumthin'? When you are looking at this thread and keep updating the page, it doesn't move you to the next page...I kept editing my post because I thought nobody was responding... I figured I'd killed the thread with my rants... I do understand all those bidding reasonings...really I do, I just hate seeing it happen so soon.
  10. This whole eBay bidding thing makes me wonder what some people are thinking. Why would anyone start bidding up an item on the first day of the auction. Wouldn't it be better to wait until the last hour? Why draw attention to a book by bidding immediately? It's obvious that none of the bidders put in a high secret bid on the first day, so what's the point? Are they shills? or just Stoopid? If we had some guts among us, we'd just shine on any auction that takes off like a rocket the first day. Let the shills buy the book...teach the lawless and greedy sellers a lesson. Oh yeah, I have been informed by one of our Boardies that sometimes this is a tactic to scare off most of the bidders early in the game. OK, I guess some people don't care how much they spend as long as they get the book... This is my pet peeve. No 7 day auction should even start until the last hour. Update: CL 25 is now at $487.87 with 5 days to go...it should be an interesting ride. Lest we forget, here's MY copy (Brag, Brag) Not as nice as Dukedog's copy, but it works...
  11. Shameless plug...but very nice reproduction of stories and art...thanks for sharing.
  12. Are you talking to me or Sqeggs? I bought mine from Harley in 2001.
  13. well, after 1 out of 5 days it's already at $402, so I'll raise your $750 and say that somebody pays $900 for it. And I feel very conservative right now about that guess...this is MADNESS!!!!! Of course, I own one...so I feel pretty good now about my little old $37 copy...Bwahahaha...
  14. The madness has started again with a CL 25 on fleabay. This book has only been listed one day...: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cinderella-Love-25-Dec-1954-Fine-Beautiful-Matt-Baker-Cover-No-Reserve-/231276732879?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item35d92ae1cf and Mr. Dukedog...TAR #42 for $725 BIN? Really? Does that make my VF- copy worth $2,000?
  15. OK, that's what i thought...thanks.
  16. So...my question is...why don't they lower the prices and see if anyone bites? Are they just stoopid...or lazy?
  17. So, getting back to the world of Baker...There are several G copies of Teen-age Romances and other titles on eBay for $200 Buy it Now prices. These have been on there for months and are not selling. Are the sellers just waiting for a sucker and don't want to lower the prices to reality? Obviously they see that nobody is going to pay that much for issues in that shape, no matter how scarce they might be.
  18. I always liked the ad. I think I saw this at the age of 8 or 9 and it was probably in an old Mad comic I got from my cousin. The house ads in Mad are priceless...I told the story of how I found Al and obtained the kit and a lot of E.C.s in one of my earliest posts...but it's probably buried on page 106 by now...
  19. I think that's 29dukedog's alias...
  20. Thanks. It actually looks better, but I photoshopped the background color to get rid of glare and it kinda made it look ragged around the edges. It came with the 3 last bulletins too.
  21. He was a smart guy...until he forgot the mosquito repellant...
  22. That's not even a Baker cover. That was done by Waldo McGurk, a famous Baker impersonator... Note the long fingers...that was Waldo's trademark. When I spoke to him before his death in 1998 ( from malaria he caught on an African trip to peddle his Baker knockoffs) he told me his greatest accomplishment was drawing 325 covers that were later attributed to Baker. Those are worthless...I feel sorry for the owner of that book.
  23. You aren't a real Fan-Addict unless you have one of these originals...I bought it from the original owner (Al Rosso-R.I.P.) for $20 in 1974.
  24. Thanks! I'm not as active here in the spring and summer, but I try to pop in once in awhile. The warmer the weather, the less active you get? Yeah, the warmer it is in Phoenix, the farther I have to go to work and avoid the heat. Also, this is reptile season....and that's my other hobby as you know.
