  1. We all have lives beyond this thread, you know. It's good to have you back! (thumbs u Thank you. I disappear again Sunday...
  2. Uh oh...did I kill the thread? It's good to be back...
  3. Sometimes you find some interesting stuff in the same day: Like a sheriff Woody doll and a Mountain Kingsnake (called a "tricolor". Now you know where my screen name comes from - and you probably thought it was a play on "four-color"...)...I think I'll hijack this thread and turn it into a Herp thread...
  4. Dukedog: That pic you like was shot from the road, 75 yds from the turtles. I love my new camera...
  5. Now you know where I was Jimbo...and I'm going again next week...gotta love CA when it's green...
  6. I just pulled two Spotted Turtle eggs out of my tank. Since I got home today, I have no idea how long ago she laid them, but i set them up to hatch anyway. We'll see... Yeah, Western Ponds are not common in the marketplace, and when they are available they cost as much as a 6.0 Baker book. I see so many in the wild that I don't care to own any. They are pretty common throughout CA, despite what some people would have you believe. I have 1,650 photos of them from 36 different CA counties. The photos include about 8,000 individual turtles. There seems to be a lot of comic collectors that own reptiles, but very few who go into the wild to find them. I love going into the wild.
  7. You're a herpetologist, too? Cool. I currently have an adult pair of Striped Mud turtles! Raised them from hatchlings. Yes, a herpetologist and author with 4 snake books under my belt. I took 160 photos of Western Pond Turtles while in CA a week ago. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=brian+hubbs
  8. Quote: "I wonder if the snakes finally got him? " No, but I've seen a lot of them this year. This is also herping season...and that takes up a lot of my time too...however, fun friends, on the bright side, I did pick up 14 old Jimmy Olsen's and Lois Lane's (including a VG #5) for only $115. WOW... So, when you see me disappear for long periods, you will know I am out having fun or workin'...
  9. Quote: "I told you, it's a conspiracy. Brian figured it out, so we had to... take care of him." Brian is here, but Brian has been out of town for awhile and does not look at computers while he is gone. This is a busy work time of year for me and that means travel. I have no idea what conspiracy I missed (will have to read about that), but I've been way too busy to even think of Baker books for the last month. Carry on...
  10. THAT is cool...congrats. How much did it cost, if you don't mind saying...? I've never bought a Larson.
  11. I think it was pretty common back in the 90s. I remember Vincent Z. had several copies of that book when I bought mine from him at the SD Con.
  12. Eh...it looked kinda ragged...here's mine:
  13. I don't think I would buy anything from that guy...not with only a 90% rating...
  14. Here's my free Batman #12 that came with the Action #76, front cover only...interior was from some Popular Comics issue... I knew a free Batman 12 was too good to be true...
  15. Obviously, some of you people are either too picky or don't pick up the phone and call Ritchie first. A friend of mine did that last month (right in the middle of Mercury Retrograde (shudder) google it if you don't know what it does to deals and contracts). He had a bad experience because he did not call TT first and ask for a review of the books and a lower price. Ritchie is very accomodating, but also very opinionated and has little tolerance for demanding customers. Now, I on the other hand, have never gotten a rotten book or deal from him, because as he says, I do it right and beat him up over the phone before I buy...I assure you, I know exactly what I'm getting before our hour long conversation is over...(he likes to talk) Peter, sorry your first experience wasn't good. He's like an acquired taste...but once you get used to it he's fun to deal with.
  16. Attaboy Brian I told you there were some good deals on Actions out there Thanks Bill. I've been finding a lot of good deals this year. Maybe because I'm trying harder...
  17. Whoa...that's a war cover I missed...dammit...now I have to look for a cheap copy of that...cool...
  18. You know...that's a good question. I don't remember, since it's been so long since I've bought or read one. I'll let you know when I read this one later today...
  19. I think the reason nobody bid was because he put all the corner pics first, and the full cover pic was last on the 2nd row of pics. I looked at the pics quickly and never saw the bottom row. I e-mailed him and asked if he had a full cover pic, and he pointed out the 2nd row of pics. I felt dumb, but so did he for not putting the full cover pic first in the line...
  20. He also threw in for free what he called a Batman 12 "beater". It turned out to be only the front cover of Batman 12, with the interior of some issue of Popular Comics...
  21. No, it was an auction listing that had a starting bid of $175...I was the only bidder and sent him a note with my ph# and he called me. I told him I collected war covers and would like to have the book. I asked if anyone else had bid and he said no. Then he voluntarily lowered the price...Amazing...there are still some good people out there. Free shipping too!
  22. Just got this in the mail today. $150 from a nice guy on eBay. He discounted it from $175. He said he found it at the bottom of a box of Sports Illustrateds that were at the local dump...I'd call it a solid VG+ to VG/F.
