I can vouch that it's a beautiful piece. I wish I could afford it, but to try and recapture some of it's magic I bought a prelim sketch of this from Paul Mann a few weeks ago.

I'm a big fan of this one:
Sketch Prices - Comic Book Sketches, Commissions & Autograph Prices
https://www.facebook.com/groups/sketchprices/
It can be a little unwieldy but it has the most up to date information about what artist are charging for commissions and sketches reported by people from cons and getting at home commissions done.

That's a killer idea for a commission! I saw (I think) a fairly recent commission by him and it was of Flash but it was a bust. I'm of the opinion with a character like that, if you can't show him with a ray gun or a sword (or hopefully both) what's the point?
Good choice on the OA page. I almost bought the page that comes right before it. It took me a long time to decide which one I should go with since his clean lines make even the talking heads pages nice to look at. This is the one I ended up with (this is his scan, not mine). I'll have to follow up with him soon if I don't get in a few more days/weeks.

@ZimmermanTelegram I missed this thread back in July. I have a piece of his art from that run. Evan was supposed to do a commission for me, but unfortunately he's not the most organized guy when it comes to those and we ended up making a deal where he swapped out the page in place of the commission. He had emailed me a list of pages. They ranged anywhere from $100 - $190 at the time (January of 2015).
I ended up reaching out to him via email and just like previously mentioned he responded with a spreadsheet of what was available and what had been sold. The prices were the same you mentioned, dirt cheap for an artist of that caliber! I was slightly bummed because by this time all the A+ pages had been snapped up, but I gladly settled for a B quality page. I did have to keep on him a bit in order to get responses at some points in the process (at his urging) and even now 2 weeks ago he was set to ship out and he said he’d email me when it went out and he’d include the shipping info, but it’s not here and I never heard back. He’s a stand up guy though and was an absolute delight to deal with.
Out of curiosity what did you comission him for and what Flash Gordon page did you end up with?

I’m thinking about buying a pencil sketch from a painter (sadly what i can afford) and framing it with a print of the finished art. I was hoping people could share some examples of this in here for inspiration. I know that some people do this with comic OA and the finished page.
Thanks!

Quick question since I haven’t used Heritage much. A lot appeared 2 weeks ahead of an auction and I’ve been tracking it for over a week at this point and the auction is this Sunday, but the preview image is still not available. Is this normal? If so, when could I excpect to see it?
Thanks

Great intel. Thank you!!

Quick question about Doc Shaner's OA from his Flash Gordon run with Jeff Parker a few years back. I noticed very few pages have popped up anywhere (I think 11 pages out of 8 issues are on CAF). That begs the question where did they come from? Does Shaner only sell them in person at conventions? Does he have a rep? How much do these go for? Why does there seem to be so few out there?
Any info. would be great. Thanks!

I wonder if the delay on this was caused by Mooneyham being scooped up to be the artist on DC's Nightwing book.

Quick little bump...

I'm curious to hear other people's responses to this, but I'm not really sure the point of slabbing/grading/verifying OA unless you have definitive plans on selling it.

Looking to see if anyone has any Jim Cheung Doctor Doom art available. Commissions would be ideal, but i'll check out any OA as well. Especially if it's from the recent Marvel 2-In-One. I've seen what's available on all the usual sites.
Thanks!

Based on what some people in an OA/sketch group on Facebook said, the remarques are $500 and will be available at SDCC

I’ve been quite enjoying Zdarsky’s Marvel 2-In-One book way more then I had expected too. A big draw of course was Jim Cheung on art, rendering a particularly great Doom. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the OA for this or Cheung in general and how often his work gets out there and if has a dealer etc. I’ve haven’t seen any of this series out there yet...
Thanks!

I just got a whole list of their recent XMen prices. If anyone wants to see them, I will post.
I have done several successful deals with Steve in the past. But, these prices just elicited a “no thanks” from me...

Yes please!

Looks like they are back to their old tricks:
I watched this pretty intently when it was going for auction on Comic Link and based on what it was it went for pretty cheap (I think $700ish). The original though (of which I can't seem to find a picture of, but will scour my computer later on) was presumed to be a prelim for the early 90s X-Men #11 without actual confirmation, I believe. It also ended very clearly at the top of the page where it says trim-copy (hence the extra bright whiteness above it) and the corner box, X-Men logo and Maverick blurb have all been added and no doubt will sky rocket the price.

I figured as much based on the low prices and sheer randomness of them. Thanks for confirming.

I've been hovering around the OA scene for a few years now and I think I mostly understand the ins and outs. My searches on eBay almost always come back with production art (both color and monotone) for relatively cheap. Now, I understand what color guides are and these obviously aren't them, but I was hoping someone could explain what it is that I'm looking at. I can post examples if needed.
Thanks!

That's unfortunate, but thanks for the head's up.

Newbie question - when certain dealers websites have pieces listed as being “on hold” what exactly does that mean? Someone has offered to pay? Someone has partially paid? What if the status on the site never changes, is it fair game to inquire with the dealer?
