  1. AH - the reason why you check every book in those longboxes.... running through stock for a con later this month - speed pricing for the bulk boxes ( basically quick sorting for dollar bins and setting aside anything of interest. pulled out this little gem.... cover is wavy - but no color breaking creases that I can see! After the con - this is heading out for CFP/CGC back cover ---- looks even BETTER......
  2. Tricky to say - will depend on what people bring to bear. I will have a ton of modern lower $$$ blow out books occupying half my booth ( priced to MOVE) - with the other half as back issues/wall ( silver through copper with some gold thrown in). I was shorthanded last year so I had to stay close to the booth and did not see a lot of what was on the floor. There is a lurker boardie ( Matt) - that set up last year that had a very good selection. I do not know if he is returning this year ( do not remember the store name, lol) Dreamland - will depend on what they bring. 2 years ago - they had much more diverse offerings ( more comics and they do have a good selection). Last year - more toys with some comics. My " top " silver/bronze I do not usually bring a lot to the show- as I can sell that through other channels pretty easily. I do bring a lot of the keys/semi keys - but generally the mid/lower grade ones. Below - are my "wall" racks from last year to give you an idea. If you have a specific collecting area --- let me know and I can see if I have anything of interest I can bring for you to look at. I will have ~ 20+ short boxes of back issues ( silver through copper) and my 4 racks of wall books. I do bring a variety of slabs - but most just tire kick those. If you do stop by ( Funky Catz Comics) --- ask for Dave and let me know you are on the boards.
  3. no easy way to pull the vendor list from the site ( - they are all just icons with no text) ---- some additional artists coming listed only as vendors I believe. https://counticon.coldwar.us/vendors-2017/ voldy is scheduled to be there - do not know in what capacity....
  4. blue label - sig will not drop the grade --- and will note" Will Eisner" written on 1st page save the pictures - so you have a reference of what the sig looks like! even higher grade books - a simple interior signature will not have a drop ( something grossly oversized in sharpie might) ..... I know cuz I got burned by this once in a discussion thinking an interior sig would drop from a 9.8, and a fellow boardie drops the showing me a 9.8.....
  5. this is what got me - the COVER TRIMMED in the pedigree location......
  6. Getting close!!!! So far - pulled and priced 1500 new books for the show - gonna keep plugging as I want to get as much of the value stock there as I can. This is a medium show - not the pomp of WW or C2E2 - but much larger than a hotel hall or VFW ( last year 6000 people through the door). The time frame is much better this year too - the show used to be the week after WW.... They are letting any vendor open Friday night this year - last year it was limited to only about 10 of us. They are running a costume party - so not the best lighting for comic hunting, but will be the best time to scrounge for the hidden gems. Guest list to date - Riki ‘Riddle’ Lecotey World-renowned Cosplayer Vincent Proce Magic the Gathering, Mortal Kombat, Animaniacs Philo Barnhart Little Mermaid, Secret of NIMH, Smurfs Ashley Witter Squarriors, Scorch, Star Wars (she recently was awarded the Doctor Aphra 14 cover) Jeffrey Moy Gen 13, Legionnaires, Micronauts Frank Fosco Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Chuck Fiala Bugs Bunny, Radioactive Blackbelt Hamsters Topper Helmers X-Men Animated Series, Walt Disney Imagineer Jon Parrish ClusterF@#k, Secrets & Shadows D.B. Stanley Lord of Gore Jai Nitz Suicide Squad, Tron, Adventure Time Jim Nelson Hearthstone, Magic the Gathering, Skylanders Charles Moisant Mystery Manor, Zombie Annihilation Ash Maczko Squarriors, Squarriors: The Card Game Philip Moy Powerpuff Girls, G.I. Joe, Star Trek Ali Cantarella The Hasty Pastry Mark McHaley X Files, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings Kelly Williams Eerie, Creepy, The Dark, Metaphase Patrick Trahey Sol Comics, The XII Jennifer Cihi Sailor Moon, Nickelodeon’s Roadhouse Scary Lady Sarah Nocturna Bill Reinhold Punisher, Batman, The Badger Linda Reinhold Fantastic Four, Conan, Spider-man Dan Leister Hack/Slash, Lord of Gore Jeffrey Butler Green Hornet, Hercules, Jurassic Park Russell Lissau The Batman Strikes, Old Wounds Hilary Barta Simpsons, Spongebob, The Thing
  7. appears to be the infamous - "cover trimmed" pedigree..... ( it is actually listed as the pedigree) ..... should be purple label..... obvious QC error....
  8. THANKS - Just so much easier when it is like AJD's example, lol.... that full bloom tanning is something I would not expect in any higher grade book ( and I hammer that when I grade) --- just such a FMV drop for these if many of the "9.4" candidates drop to a 9.0 ( or lower)..... and I like to do my homework when I am not sure...
  9. thx - I have not gone through the whole lot - and I think this is one of the worst ones. Have to re-check overstreet when I get home - but I believe their general notes do not give me enough detail to be sure. More overall page quality - and not this... ( and their examples are cover pics - not interior pics, lol). The seller is saying close to the same thing - that the color alone is not as important as the page quality ( and I have seen CR-OW 9.6 CGC books) - while I generally agree ( and feel it is a buyers preference for this kind of issue) , I usually do not get the hi grade silvers in so seeing this worries me, - and want to be more confident as there is a huge difference in 9.2/9.4 and 8/8.5 quick edit/question - did they mention the tanning in the graders notes????
  10. Purchased some "hi grade" silver books - on many, the exterior. This was an ebay purchase - I am protected if I want to return - but I would like to know more about this defect to see if we can work something out without the hassle. Exterior - no sign of tanning. Interior - the start of a tan window. Books are supposedly 9.2/9.4 - and on the outside do seem to be in that range. Pages are all supple - so the very worst of them might be CR-OW. How bad is this? looking for general feel of how CGC may or may not hammer the grade.....
  11. Sonic welded - basically using directed acoustical vibrations to melt the two pieces of plastic together. Very strong if properly done.
  12. also - why press a signed book? -- if the plan is to slab them - they will come back with a green label - not a signature series label. SS labels - require a witnessed sig....
  13. what did grader notes say ? 1st time submissions are really eye openers for many........ were the other books also damaged during shipping???
  14. I am there for my 3rd year! It is a really fun show - a mixed bag for comics. They get a large amount of people through the doors - but I have not seen that many big $$$ buyers there. Past 2 years - they have set up the week after wizard world - so understandable that a lot of $$$ is sucked out of the area. My first year - I was the only one there with slabs ( though a couple of people had some nice higher value books). Last year - maybe 2 of us ( another boardie lurker was there). Sold a few of the lower value ones last year - had some bigger books under lock and key (golden age and high grade silver) - that got a look or two, but not even a nibble of an offer ( and some were very reasonably priced). There are also many of the "non comics" booths set up. definitely a great value for the price. Some one asked me last year about any facilitators - have not seen anything with respect to CGC . The guest list - is always interesting, but not the big hitter names that would will have a need for CGC to be there ( though I see that voldy is setting up something). Success rate - may be based on what you bring and the price. One of the larger local stores ( dreamland) - brought in mostly pops, and their manager said they did their best show ever. Pops... ( they had a huge selection and commons were likely discounted).... Hopefully the timing between WW and this - work out well this year for drawing in more collectors. My main goal is moving as much of the bulk low end out the door, but it helps to have people buying the bigger ticket items as well...... Stop by and say hi! Heck --- any boardies -- the same - CGCers get the "Sunday evening" discount pretty much anytime.
  15. Was saving the best for last....... and man - trying to post images with a phone is -- tried to edit out the extra shots about 5 times from my post - no luck... also included,,,,,,,,
  16. Ron C had offerred to change his offered prize then realized it would be unfair to those who already picked. It was a nice thought and Ron realized it was better to leave his prize offer as is. His listed prize - IMO - is better than what he added as the alternate anyway ---- FYI - the xmen 60 I offered - "pretty good shape" --- not really the best description - as it sits - likely a 7.0 - the cover has 4 indentations from something sitting on it - if you are a pressing type of person, this could be 8.5 maybe 9.0 ( slightly rounded corners and a small crease lower right corner)
  17. watching live - my list pick should still be there --better be as "cool" as it sounded........
  18. the response I got back from my submission..... leaves me less than optimistic........
  19. the seller did package like a fool - but also offered a return...... I see too much back an forth. After his first message - I would have simply stated that an item not as described case would be opened - asking for the $15 ( or whatever) re-holder fee ( and you should be able to add images). Explain simply that the cost for return shipping would be more than this. If they know what they are doing - they refund the fee. IF not - ebay will force a return - - or you might be given the option to keep it. Then neg them. Keep it simple. Good sellers will take care of the issue, clueless ones will lose a lot of $$$ in return fees and bad rep.....
  20. Could be - no idea what diamond charges - as an example though - if you order direct through BCW for something like shortboxes - you can get 10 for 2.63 each ( this is anybody) .... the wholesale account - is about 30% less. Some obvious drawbacks - large order for free shipping and you have to deliver to a commercial address, but cheap ( to me ).......
