  1. Just picked up several raws in Rick's latest thread - Batman 181, archie 51 and Planet 53 -- all arrived quick with great packing accurate grades and reasonable prices....
  2. Not my friend - (shadrock is OP ) - just going by the description of store displays.
  3. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fisher-Price-Imaginext-DC-Super-Friends-Batbot-Xtreme-DISPLAY-READ-DESC/323051968300?hash=item4b3765d72c:g:E18AAOSwp7FadpNP Hard to really say what the "display version" would add to the value - this guy has a lot of 6 of the batbots ( one sold) - and the description would indicate that the functionality of the display versions is limited.... You can get NIB ones for under $100. Like any collectible - cost varies on the desirability and scarcity... Three batbot displays in this auction alone - and a "Wal Mart" display... I would think that the market of people who purchase these is very limited - and the fact that they are for wal mart makes them pretty common...
  4. Hahaha, karma gonna do what karma does! Wonder what happened this time. Don't think anything extra happened -- but he was banned form ebay and set up another account. Ebay probably did him a favor - if his CGC transactions were real, he was losing $50 or more per transaction......He was flipping most for less than he paid, many times before any fees applied ( per GPA prices) ....
  5. No dad - we have already has this talk - as soon as you depart, I back the truck up and remove the burden from the rest of the family........
  6. If they don't sell for $2 - they go in the dollar bin! Best bet really is to learn what covers to look for for better modern books - do a sort - pull everything you think is of value
  7. I think everyone is missing the most important part of this thread..... strangest Friday ever---- a simple straightforward exchange of thoughts and a boardie changes his opinion.....
  8. Looks like only a drop off point - then ship back... A step forward for sure ( as the footprint there could lead to on site activities), but short term, just easier than trying to find them at a local con or shipping overseas yourself. Likely not any change for international lead times ...
  9. I had a look at the completed Hulk 181, Hulk 5, and All-Star 58 as well as the currently running X-Men 94. If it is Kaftor, it doesn't appear he's gotten back into bid shilling on eBay (not yet anyway, who knows --- it is definitely him His slab sales are strange -- cant really say if anything is going on, but he is losing money on every sale. Most are sold underwater ( so lose $$ and the ebay/paypal cut) - and most of the ones where he gets a slight bump over what he paid- are underwater with the vig..... ( info readily available on GPA). If you look at his feedback - very strange as a buyer- says he has 60 bid retractions in the last year.
  10. I did not see anything fishy with the visible auctions - but I am no expert by far. Just wanted the radar out again. Never saw the guy post out a mea culpa of any sort - so unknown if he is trying it the right way this time, or trying to fly under the radar a lot more......
  11. the original thread is gone ( so harder to check aliases) ... but it looks like "good news" is back - he was posting on the SD comics facebook bragging bout ebay sales - also posted pics of IH 181 and ASM 129 - both CGC 3.5 living_room_con had ebay sales of the same books after the post ( and from San Diego) ..... not a ton of bidding history ( most of the auctions are private bidders) ...... but worth a look from the "CGC PI Squad" ......
  12. You should look up green labels - this is a qualified grade - where the book looks a lot better than grade- and they list the reason. This book looks like a 7.5 --- but has a detached cover........
  13. http://hbsbusiness.com/index.php/site/articles/avoiding_the_hobby_tax_trap/ While a little old - this is a decent read on the subject for those who do this on the side. Part of the classification s well - is that you should be running your side project as a business. Things like a separate phone line, insurance, business bank accounts, and the like - are all items that can help your case if the IRS comes knocking....
  14. always consult a pro ( especially when dealing with high dollar) --- If you are an individual --- losses can offset gains, but you do not get any write off. If you are filing as a business - you can claim a loss- though this is not recommended to do year after year as the IRS might require you to reclassify as a hobbyist ( where you do not get various benefits).
  15. Must have been the Stan Lee signature.... I would not have given more than 45K without that........
  16. oh - not trying to justify the action at all - the reference I had was a pawn shop ---- and really was in reference to items they purchased outright.... In many cases - individuals can be charged with receiving stolen property if they purchase stolen goods. Given that the books were identified - ( and the info we have ) - at a minimum the store was sleazy as all get out. Even if the only contact they had was with the OP --- what would it actually hurt for them to put a hold on the books for a brief period just to be sure... Some states in the US - also have regulations for any used goods re-seller. My state has some - but they appear to target the "cash for gold" guys more than collectors....
  17. In the US --- it is a crazy mix of what is required ( varies by state). Someone posted in a thread about pawn shops and accountability for a stolen goods purchase. I was curious so I did some searching - Most of what I found was the different levels of ID/tracking the shops have to do when buying goods. If they pick up a stolen item - they are not necessarily required to return it. Many will have to have seller ID information for the police and be required to report . In many cases - the individual would have to take the pawn shop to civil court to get the item back ( US law state by state).....
  18. No. Sell it to me. -- I would get the grader notes to see if there are more reasons for the tape. Unless you are looking to upgrade it to sell - I would leave it alone. It does look like there might be some room to upgrade with a press ( and have CCS do an estimate for tape removal) - but I would be worried about the risk of damage on a book this old ( and COOL). By default - this already has great eye appeal - it is a Batman 1
  19. Unknown ( unless someone also owns one and chimes in ) - the ML ( and other armed forces) inserts are listed on the label, but not tracked in census.
  20. Might not be available with on site submissions - many here have the membership subscriptions and submit direct to CGC and we receive grader notes for free. While not a complete set of notes ( what we are sent is supposed to be a quick summary of non obvious defects) - it can help. Below is part of the screen I see - 2 identical books and grades - one had grader notes with a stain notation. Side by side - the non stained book as more visible physical defects. If you were the submitter - you may be able to call in and get the notes over the phone. You can also get grader notes ( for a fee) - from the main CGC page using the verify tool ( after you enter the cert number you will get this option), but this is for a fee.
  21. Reconditioned? - you mean restored? what was the restoration listed and how are you so sure it was not restored. Pictures help. So do grader notes. a .5 can be caused by more than just wear. The grader notes should be readily available and this will tell you if there is something you missed like a panel or coupon cut - or even missing pages ( golden age is not always consistent so you need to do more than a simple page count). If the cover is ONLY attached by tape - it is graded as a detached cover so that may be partially the reason. Many of your reasons listed - are not realistic comparisons. Sequential numbers is meaningless for grading. Type of condition - not a good description of any of the defects. Books can have a similar look - but drastically different levels of defects. If you want help or better comments - post a decent scan of each book front and back - and the graders notes. Lot of people on the boards have submitted thousands of books and will be able to provide you better insight . Honestly - without that information you will not get much real help.
  22. yay --- santa arrived!!! edit - powers that be let me know The Resurrection was my santa! - THANKS!
