This guy could be switching books out of holders or someone might just be using them to fence switched books.
Has anyone notified CGC of this? They may be able to take legal recourse here.
We're looking into this.

I was also informed by CGC that "there is a 14 day time frame for getting any corrections like this back to us." Any issues with Newton rings brought to their attention outside of that time frame will not be reholdered for free.
I was also told by the first customer service rep I contacted at CGC (immediately after receiving the slab a few months ago) that the Newton rings were not excessive. It wasn't until I kept going back to them after reading the results other boardies had with the same issue that I finally found a rep that agreed the Newton rings on my slab were excessive. Of course, that was outside the 14 day window so I am being billed by CGC for the reholdering.
Please email me, I can get that refunded for you. You shouldn't have been charged. brittany@cgccomics.com

Here's a suggestion that's been made before, but I'll make it again, in the hopes that it is instituted, because it will help CGC and its customers:
If my book grades anything less than a 9.8, I need to have notes to explain why. Nothing fancy. But if my book grades 9.6, or 9.4, or, God forbid, lower...I would like to know what triggered that for the grader(s). Why? Because when there are no notes, and I'm expecting a 9.8 (which is most of the time), I'm going to usually assume my book was improperly graded by an inexperienced grader, or harshly graded, and that book will eventually make its way back to CGC for a review at some point.
If, however, I see a note that says something like, oh, "very slight scuffing back cover" or "small color rub top staple back cover" or somesuch, consistent with a 9.6 grade, I'm much, much more inclined...even if I don't completely agree...to say "ok, that's fair, I see where you're coming from"...and you'll never see that book again, because I will have accepted your reasoning, again, even if I don't necessarily agree with the final outcome. The notes need not be fancy. Just the one or two small things that the grader(s) saw that knocked the book out of 9.8.
After all...even if you charge me for the review, which I know you won't, because I'm a good customer who spends thousands of dollars a year with you...it's still a hassle to have to initiate a review for books that a simple note or two would have made unnecessary. And I don't think I'm alone in this regard.
If you could pass that along where appropriate, @Brittany M., it would be most appreciated.
We love hearing feedback from you guys, and although we aren't always able to answer everyone and address every issue, we try as a whole to accommodate as many requests as we get. In speaking to that, our grading team collectively (Vintage and Modern graders) have been trying to add grading notes for books that are 9.6 or below. Its a delicate balance to keep our turn times down, and take time to add grader's notes to books that aren't 9.8. Some books slip through, but as whole, we've greatly increased our efforts to do this.

I do not care about the new bags, so much as the new boxes, which are "1 and done" use. I have, for years, sent back submissions in the old, heavy duty boxes they used to use. The new boxes are good...barely...for about a single shipment, and then they are fit only for recycling.
I am very tempted to send them a pallet...at my expense...and tell them to use those.
Are you out there @Brittany M....? If you need to raise the price of shipping to provide the old boxes...please do so. Cutting costs by cutting corners doesn't help anyone.
I'll certainly pass this along @RockMyAmadeus

Exactly. In the past, all 'official' responses came from either Matt Nelson, Harshen Patel, or Brittany McManus; and ALL had longstanding accounts with identifiable indications of their positions at CGC along with color coding.
If this member account 'CGC Comics' is actually one of the above people (or someone else), I find this completely unprofessional. Call me crazy, but I like to know exactly WHO is making the official CGC statements; especially given CGC's track record of deleting entire threads when 'official' promises of improved quality became 'inconvenient.'
I understand what you are saying completely. I'll be monitoring that account, I'll just have some help as well.
I'm always here to help out however I can, and you can ALWAYS email me @Ditch Fahrenheit

If I have Joeypost as my presser/submitter and his business model was to walk the items in and then walk them out, this change will increase his costs which will then be passed on to me his customer all the way over here in Edmonton Alberta Canada. It isn't just affecting the people local to CGC.
Add in the newton ring debacle and the FedEx restrictions too.
Joey is a dealer and therefore not affected by this change. This shouldn't affect your costs with Joey if you do everything through him.

So, how do you do walk-through, if you can no longer walk through....?
It sounds like there were people who weren't picking up their books in a timely manner.
Same day Walk-thrus will still be allowed.

maybe they only have one room available and they need it for the drop offs. You would think they would have some intermediate step like notifying you they are ready and you get one day to come get'em but I guess they think that would be more hassle than this blanket decision.
We certainly notify everyone when their orders are complete. We follow up with phone calls as well after a few weeks pass. We are very diligent in the communication to notify customers that their orders are ready.

I submitted my comic for standard grading. I know that the process takes 18 days to complete and then several more days for it to arrive by mail. As of today, it is 24 days and I have not received it back. Furthermore, I am unable to get any information from the "my submissions" page other than it has been verified. Everything else is simply marked n/a (not available). Am I missing something here? Or is this par for the course?
Thanks
Marty
Hi Marty!
It's 18 business days from the time it is received. We are currently on day 14. I will surely make sure this gets shipped out in that time frame for you!

Maybe we should aggregate the various glitches into one list to make it easy for them to fix?
My biggest issue right now is that the online form does not calculate the correct shipping cost (which should be $0) when you choose the option to ship under your own FedEx account. This should be a fairly simple fix for the programmers, but it's been a problem since day one.
If your shipping account is not on file with us, it will not calculate correctly. You can call me or email me to get that handled.

That explains it, then - when I looked at the page last week, the Value tier value had been bumped up to $400. Guess it was a typo when you guys were changing the page.
that's my fault. The changes were delayed in getting updated. I'm sorry about that.

No imaging option that I've found yet,so it's paper invoices and higher fees for me I guess. No one will reply to my inquiries about it here in multiple threads now

Yeah, I spotted that too.
And as it looks like both Economy and Value tiers now have a max value of $400 & there's no longer a number of a books requirement for the Value tier, I don't see a reason to ever submit anything under the regular Economy tier again
Value tier has a value of $200.00. Economy is $400.

CGC can you please fix your online submission portal
You posted this thread back when you launched them and got a bunch of feedback:
However nothing was fixed. There have been several issues known on the new forms and since we get the pleasure of being charged more if we don't use them can you please look to fix them prior to that. I've reported issues through their online submission, voiced issues here, and spoken with Brittany however we are still spinning waiting.
Here are some issues:
The submission center doesn't work - Rob posted several videos in the original thread showing this. He is NOT the only one with this issue. It's not solved! Just because it works on your end doesn't mean it works for your customers.
Shipping calculation - for those who are lucky enough to get further in the form its not working to correctly calculate shipping when using their own account ($0.00).
Prescreen - been some murmurs of pre-screen not working properly for some.
I'll update this thread as more weigh in with their issues. Let's get this fixed please.
I have been trying to get the code fixed with the issue you showed me Iceman. This is in the works, and the code is being fixed.
Shipping calculation is working, if you put in your own account, then it doesn't calculate shipping. Your account must be on file with us and verified.
Prescreening works. The prescreen option doesn't show up until 25 books have been entered, at which point you will see the option to pre-screen on the cart subtotal page.

I'd prefer to not have to make an international call. Link above is the exact issue.
We have a toll free number, and I would be happy to call you if that works. A fix was put in place for this over a month ago.

Perhaps you can call me and we can walk through the issue together?

Then I might do that, is the form pretty straightforward? I mean for first timers? The LCS was charging me like $40 per modern, so I'd probably save some money on my own account but haven't worked out the math, for as mentioned: bubble rap, cardboard, shipping to and from, what insurane etc. It just always seems a hassle, I know you get some kind of percentage discount though so (don't laugh or scold I'm a little embarrased about the whole thing) I'm probably losing money at the LCS...
The new online form makes it very easy for beginners to submit. It is a smart form so you don't have to pick your tiers, it will show you which tier your book fits into.
You can also track everything yourself with your own account.

Pro tip: If you can't monitor a thread specifically dedicated to soliciting feedback on a tool you're offering, then don't post a thread soliciting feedback.
Rob,
Great tip and excellent point! I was monitoring this when we launched in December, and we have just been inundated with books since show season is in full swing. I will shut down this thread since it is not being monitored as carefully as necessary. I thank you for your feedback. If you want to continue our communication, please do so over email. bmcmanus@cgccomics.com
Have a great weekend.
