  1. Shows what you know. I take mine to 1000 because I press so tight there's no oxygen present for combustion. It also take a week for the press to cool down.
  2. I picked up a few X-Men books recently, not particularly looking for newsstands but it's nice to find them.
  3. They will likely knock this to 8.0-8.5. I have seen them bump a 9.6 down to 9.0 for a 1" rub.
  4. I like to get my presses up to a steamy 212 degrees so the moisture just boils of. It makes my workroom like a nice sauna.
  5. Moongirl and Devil Dinosaur #7 Digital Code missing... but not entirely (turn the page)
  6. Try that with a modern (which is the vast majority of what new pressers work on) and you're in trouble. You likely know that, I know that, Joe knows that... and everyone else who has made a placemat knows that. The difference is, we know from experience, and we know why it happens. 99% of the folks who start out with, "Tell me what kind of press to use. Tell me what temperature to use. Tell me how long to... ", will likely never know how to roll with the punches when something doesn't go right. They have approached it from the perspective of being handed a formula to mimic rather than from learning and understanding.
  7. Heads up, I just got wind of a new 1st print, 6.0 white pages, coming to market. As I understand it, this is from the original owner. If anyone's looking, PM me. Update: SOLD
  8. It's not all that uncommon. In the manufacturing process you will have extra covers and extra stapled interiors laying around. Since the printer was paid by the unit they would oftentimes manually assemble those remainders in order to fill their quota.
  9. Now you're just teasing us. What's the story. Where are these and how can I get them? I have a refrigerator full of kidneys stored away for just an occasion like this.
  10. Not surprising that you've never heard of light reflection. "Seen but not heard"... give it a try.
  11. As I recall, Black Spideys have THRID PRINT in the indicia. There is nothing with SECOND PRINT in the indicia.
  12. Thanks for dumping on my book.. jackwagon. "Some people should be seen and not heard" is a real thing. FWIW, those are not CBC's, they're extremely light non-color breaking, maybe 1/32". The reason you're even able to see them is because I shot the picture with the light at nearly a 90 deg angle to the slab to minimize the glare. Put the light in any other place and those lines are not visible.
  13. I don't know; I used to think that but now I' not so sure. Sure, more and more slabbed books have been pressed with each passing day but I have seen a ton of books in slabs over the past few years that have not. I am shocked at the number of people who want to slab a book so they can sell it online, no consideration of pressing if they've even heard of it at all.
  14. Take everything you read on those groups (and I'm a member of several of them) with a grain of salt. These are the same guys who routinely tape books to reattach covers and cf, or replace staples then humble brag when it gets a blue label. I'm not saying they're up to no good but things have escalated greatly in the last 18 months. It went from lightening heavy stains to improve the appearance of the book to flat out bleaching books. And their claim that just because H2O2 is used in the manufacture of paper means it's not restoration is completely laughable. Paper pulp and dyes are used in the manufacture of paper but if you add some after the fact it's restoration. Add some ink to a cover and see how your argument holds up.
  15. The $64,000 question is, if done properly, can it be detected? I'm not taking a stance on resto or not, just, can CGC (and others) tell if it's from peroxide or if it's just a light stain (or stain that has lightened over time). That seemed to be the reason for pressing being not-resto, because they can't tell how it got that way.
  16. Upside down and inside out. No, no doubles. Ove the 1000 I've had, only 1 was a double insert (ASM 108 or something like that). I messed up and traded it away without realizing it.
  17. Picked up just a few MJI... I'll post picture later...
  18. Not without giving it a Q label (on nicer books) and noting it.
