  1. Action 21 has Superman changing direction in midair to pursue a fleeing airplane. He was on the ground in the panel before so it's possible he jumped, but it appears obvious that he is able to control his movement in the air somehow.
  2. I think a better argument could be that Superman is flying (although not specifically stated), or at least gliding, in Action #12. Anytime Superman is doing something they use descriptive verbs -- leaping, springing, running, hurling, etc. -- to give context to the panel. In panel 20 on page 3 he is described as swooping, "Down swoops Superman... ". To me that implies some form of controlled movement rather than a freefall and it pretty much looks like a glide at the very least. Now for the twist. On page 8, panel 54, he "swoops down from the skies". Is that the same type of swooping that was done earlier? It doesn't look like it to me. That's more of the traditional "falling from the sky" that he does. So we have the same verb describing what appears to be two different actions, leaving the door open to argue that perhaps on page 3 he is not actually flying or maybe he is flying in both.
  3. Agreed. There is nothing that even suggests he's flying in Action 10.
  4. Exactly. They note it when the newsstand differs in content or construction from the direct edition. Spawn #4 newsstand does not have the Image 0 coupon. Spawn #100 newsstand is printed on pulp pages and direct is on slick pages.
  5. Their accounts receivable processes are incompetent at best and near criminal. I have had to mention calling the State Attorney General to get them to stop charging the wrong credit card for orders. 90% of the orders I send in get charged to one credit card. Occasionally I will submit some books for a customer and they will use their own credit card. CGC seems to think it's just fine to charge whatever card was last used for any future orders. Just last month I put in 9 orders and had $6600 of about $9000 in charges get charged to a customer's card WHO WAS NOT INVOLVED in the transaction at all. For some reason they just to decided to start charging a different card despite the fact that all 9 orders had identical credit card information on it. The month before they did a similar thing. A prescreen order was shipped and they just randomly charged someone else for it. Fortunately that person was a friend and I was able to explain to them just how inept CGC's accounting is. CGC finally got it straightened out but only after me having to call them multiple times. Truly WTF!
  6. Bob Burden was at the Dallas Fantasy Fair back in the late '80s. A friend of mine was getting a stack of FC books signed by him and Bob noticed that one issue was missing. My friend told him he was still looking for it but had not been able to find it. Bob told him to hang on and he started digging through a bag. Out comes the missing issue, Bob signs it and hands it over, "Oh this is the artist's proof so it's kind of marked up inside." Sure enough, there were several corrections and notes from Bob scrawled in red pen through the book. Very cool book and very cool of Bob.
  7. Truckee Meadows FF #3 went for $102k in April. https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/fantastic-four-3-marvel-1962-cgc-nm-94-white-pages/a/7270-91062.s?ic2=mytracked-lotspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyTrackedLots-101116
  8. People seem to be missing this part... "CGC will continue to identify on the label any significant missing pieces, pages, wraps or inserts from the interior of a comic." So missing pages, clipped coupons, missing Wolverines... those still get noted.
  9. I would love the ability to enter books I have slabbed in a certain grade into my collection that do not have a recorded sales.
  10. Agreed. This is not that uncommon when someone glues a cover back in place. The type of glue used in manufacturing is a cheap form of wood glue (which works well on paper) that tends to dry out and become crumbly in poor storage conditions. I have seen covers completely detached - no tears, no splits - and the glue left on the cover is like sand. Years ago it was not an uncommon practice to slap some Elmer's glue on the part that has come unstuck then close things up. When done judiciously no one will ever know... fortunately most people who do this are not judicious. It takes just a tiny amount of glue to stick a cover back to the book. In many cases you get some slop or squeeze that bonds the pages to the cover. When the book is opened wide again, some of the cover splits off and you end up with paper transfer. I believe that's what you're seeing here.
  11. I think you're putting way to much faith in CGC's QC department. I have had them screw up labeling many, many books even with it properly noted on the submission form and post-its on the books. If it wasn't noted (or even noticed) by the original submitter, there's little chance that CGC picked up on it. It's like they're running a puppy mill in the grading room right now. That being said, I want to know what you find out.
  12. "Going Value" is not acceptable for an audit. You either have the proof or not. It's up to the auditor's discretion but, it has been my experience that varies greatly. If you claim a value on your taxes (income from the 1099-K with offsetting line items for the purchase) you are on the hook for substantiating your claim. For the most part, I suspect the IRS will just disallow the offsetting line item and you'll be on the hook for the full tax bill... plus penalties and interest. I do, however, agree that the odds of being audited solely for the 1099 is low. It's just a huge burden to those filers who don't have the process in place.
  13. "No longer contains the 1st appearance of Wolverine"
  14. The problem is, how do you prove you took a loss? Did you save the receipt from an item you purchased 20 years before? I certainly didn't. But if you get audited, they could definitely require it.
  15. *Plus penalties! My folks underpaid their quarterly payroll taxes by $2 one time. Over a year later they were sent a bill from the IRS for something like $50... $2 for the underpayment, $1 for interest (50%.. WTF!)... $47 in penalties.
  16. I was pretty surprised to see no BOMC noted on the indicia. I figured it was like the other BOMC 4th prints. Maybe it has something to do with being out of Canada. Was there a special 4th printing for Canada with no price? That seems unlikely because who would print something that was individually for sale without a price. Is this an error? Maybe. Just another mystery for us to solve.
  17. Yeah, I have been watching that one. I'm not going to pull the trigger at the current asking price.
  18. Okay Detectives, here's a new twist on the 4th Print... A few weeks ago I was rereading this thread and decided to look for a BOMC 4th print. I dug through a few hundred eBay listing and found 2 so I bought them. One arrived last week and the other, from Canada, arrived tonight. Front cover logo on the one from Canada (left) is slightly lighter than the one from the US but that's no big deal . Back covers look the same -- no MATURE CONTENT warning nor price. However, when I opened the book from Canada there was no BOMC notation. So now it appears there is yet another, 3rd variant, of the 4th printing. Anyone see one of these before?
  19. I tend to get a bit p!ssy when someone calls me a liar. I probably need a Snickers.
  20. Then why the hell did you quote me saying I was making stuff up? CGC absolutely did send emails like that and I have them. They flat out offer to press your book to "achieve" the previous CBCS grade. You either authorize the pressing, have them grade it without pressing (which results in a lower grade), or you tell them to send it back.
  21. Feel free to point out where I said CGC honors CBSC grades. Period.
  22. My guess is, they will regrade it and you're going to get a .5.
