    There was a post in the spring that generated a lot of discussion about how important boardies felt a good wrap was for a slabbed book (unless it's really bad, I couldn't care less). It got me wondering what importance board members place on other factors when choosing a book.

    So, assuming it's an issue you want, price is right, etc. - how would you rank the following factors when deciding whether to buy a book?

    A. Grade;

    B. Page color;

    C. Wrap;

    D. Pedigree;

    E. Holder (old, oldest, new, custom);

    F. Previous pressing;

    G. Holder condition;

    Are there other factors you consider?

    Are any of the factors deal breakers for you?

    1.  Grade (9.8 minimum is a must since that makes up 95% of my collection...but there are some books I love that I can't afford in that grade...ie Jimmy Olsen #134)

    2.  Label color...Blue and Yellow (No purple, no green, etc.)

    3.  Grader (CGC or CBCS...everybody else gets a bit sketchy)

    4.  Wrap and page color (both tied...there's a limit to how crooked a book can be and no modern book should be less than white)

    5.  Pressing (another situation where it depends but I like my book ole natural)

    6.  Holder condition (I guess that's the purpose of putting it in plastic...to take the scratches instead of the book)

    7.  Pedigree, custom label, holder version (makes no impact on my decision at all)

    ***I do like the thinner holders over the thicker ones but that's just preference

    My love/hate relationship with this franchise continues. Loved the original of course and hated Danny Glovers sequel but I’ve come to appreciate and enjoy Predator 2 today. Hated the crossovers with the Aliens. Really enjoyed Predators. Nothing really new there, they just remade the original and it was fun. Kinda like how I feel about Riddick and Pitch Black. Then The Predator came and I had high hopes and it sucked. I’ll watch the Hulu movie and hope its either dumb fun or something unique.

    I cannot agree more with this entire statement.  Very few people bring up Predators...fun, doesn't require much thinking, and I really like Adrien Brody in that role.

    ***I can't believe Shane Black (of all people) could mess up a Predator movie so badly

    I like Endgame, too, but it's not even the best Avengers movie.

    I dislike Endgame. It was a convoluted mess.

    Endgame gave me some of the best times I had at the movies.  We're talking pure entertainment.  When did these other "better" superhero movies make you cheer and cry at the movies?  Maybe it didn't for you two but I'm talking about the general movie goer...

    - When Captain America picked up Thor's hammer

    - When Sam said "To your left" and the portals started to open

    - When Captain Marvel entered the atmosphere

    - Death of Iron Man (first time I teared up since Optimus Prime died)

    ***Back on topic...definitely seeing Batman

    What separates one a-hole connoisseur from another is that some people's a-holes are more reasonable, rational, and well thought-out as compared to others.  :sumo:

    Agree.  But we're discussing entertainment on a comic book forum.  If this was about solving world hunger "reasonable, rational, and well thought-out" opinions would be more important.

    Now if somebody said the best Catwoman is Halle Berry...then that's a different story.

    ***I like Endgame

  5. I'm just cautious whenever a reviewer say "this is the best (insert anything here) I have ever seen".  Too much recency bias.

    - Best Batman movie ever...ok, Heath Ledger was in a pretty good movie

    - Best superhero movie ever...um, Endgame was pretty good

    - Best Catwoman ever...some are too young to remember Michelle Pfeiffer

    ***Best icee ever...Pepsi flavor (that is a fact)

    ... I see more upside on She Hulk than Nova who is still at the rumor stage.

    I would push back against that for the following (correct me if I misstate something)...

    - She Hulk is a streaming show and Nova is rumored to be part of the MCU movies (that's a significant difference on impact of upside)

    - Female characters, whether fair or not, are generally not as popular as male characters

    - She Hulk is a retread of Hulk (like Female Thor, Iron Heart, Black Panther Shuri, etc.) which tend to not be as popular as the "original"

    Now if you say She Hulk has more upside because it is a cheaper comic than the first appearance of Nova I would agree since it has a further way to go.  First appearance of Nova is ~$2000!!!

    ***I'd still bet on Nova hoping for a phase 5 standalone movie

    You were still able to land a CGC 9.6 with that corner?  I think RockMyAmadeus pressed the book and greased the graderlol.  But that's a great story and happy it turned out proper.

    Here are my 3 mandatory New Mutant books everybody should own.  The picture is crappy but it's cold in Minnesota and I'm too lazy to make the effort to take a decent one...

    ***NM #100 is the least valuable but it's my favorite issue from the title run

    Not sure if this has been answered already but is this series meant to exist in the same world as Jackson’s trilogy? So even though it’s set thousands of years earlier are they linked in any way?

    I think the assumption is that it is in "the same world as Jackson's trilogy"...ie Tolkien's world.  How can it not, right?  I think the MCU multiverse has messed with everybody's logical thinking lol.

    ***I never even considered it not being in the same world/universe/story

  9. Reasons why I would hate this movie:

    - If there's a bunch of 5 seconds cameos of characters we love and they do nothing with them (i.e. seeing quick glimpses as they fall through various dimensions)

    - The main movie villain is an alternate version of Doctor Strange (which unfortunately the MCU likes to do...i.e Black Panther vs Golden Jaguar)

    - If the Illuminati is a group of "meh" characters (stick with the comic!)

    - If they bring beloved characters back to life (like Robert Downey Jr.)...I would feel cheat like the "Death Of Superman"

    - If it feels like a "half" movie and left hanging until wherever it picks up next (Antman???)

    - If it turns out not to be Patrick Stewart (that is a deal breaker)

    ***If they don't do any of these things this movie will make 10 billion dollars lol
