  1. Anyone want to tell this uhh individual who obviously has no idea what's going on, what I do for a living? Individual documents in a bankruptcy action can be sealed, sure. I didn't say that. I said that the fact that a company is filing for bankruptcy protection (or moving into liquidation) CANNOT. Your googled link does not disprove it, and hilariously even weakens your argument because that specific case sent back and UNSEALED the hearing because the court felt the public should have had the opportunity to challenge the sealing of the estimation hearing, and asked the court to consider any reasonable alternative to NOT seal it... Jaydog, you're doing it wrong.
  2. Jaydog, this below is what it sounds like when people actually KNOW what they are talking about....take note: Yes, there is no way to keep a bankruptcy filing private.
  3. You never miss an opportunity to bury a hatchet right in someone's neck when it suits you. It's probably your most defining characteristic.
  4. Jim, I thought this was the book I sold you when I first met you years ago on the chat forum.
  5. The '68 books onward were printed with different paper than the early to mid Silver Age books so you don't see the same translucence on these later covers. What you are talking about is something different.
  6. Correct. I’ve never heard that before. Wouldn’t they (CGC) have to make a note on the label reflecting that, if only to cover their own arse? I could see a situation where someone buys a book (where the original submitter requested no MC paper), cracks it open and then comes here blitching that CGC screwed to pooch and didn’t put the paper in it. I don’t think they’d even bother with providing that option. I have not heard of them doing that either. What I have notices is that they are more often than not now putting the paper one or two wraps in rather than right next to the cover. The phenomenon has as much to do with thin cover stock as it does with the quality of inks they used. Marvel used cheap, oil based inks and the oils in the cover stock also cause that translucent effect (just put a little cooking oil on a piece of paper and you'll see what I mean). It's not a big deal at all IMO and I've seen it on books up to 9.8 from various pedigrees. I basically ignore it and don't even notice it most of the time.
  7. I can't believe you said Beetlejuice.
  8. Very common. IMO it's a product of the white interleaving paper that CGC places behind the cover of books they grade causing the interior inks to reflect through the cover. Doesn't bother me a bit. You can see this in nearly any grade. I've seen 9.8 books with this phenomenon.
  9. I have a strong feeling this book will sell in less time than it would take to auction it off.
  10. Yes, time payments are a possibility within reasonable limits. Gang, the book is still available and I've answered all PMs. I'm going to close this thread to move the book elsewhere (and raise the price to fall in line with the rest of the market ) but you can still reach me if you're interested and will honor my $45,000 price here. Thanks for all your inquiries.
  11. May have been a bit later as I joined in 2004 and I remember it. Maybe 2006 or so? I remember Borock discussing it and CGC changing their position but I always though it was a shame. I remember being berated by boardies for supporting it saying it would support scamming, etc. but I always thought it was a good thing that would expand both understanding of restored books and appreciation for them.
  12. Ultimately, it is the fault of the consumer whose responsibility to educate themselves is not laid at the feet of CGC Also, it was impossible to know the fallout of a restored label which was likely exaggerated as the market also increased in price. Wasn't a big deal when a book was worth $1000 unrestored and $200-300 restored. Made a much bigger difference when you started talking about 5, 6 and 7 figure prices.
  13. It doesn't matter what I say. CGC says it is. Again, it depends on the size / number of chips, the rest of the book etc. My point is that just like the market moved to turn a blind eye to Restored books because they were stigmatized (rather than understand that there were varying degrees of restoration and that some books with lots of hidden value you were being ignored or devalued) the same is happening in comics where the 'chipping narrative' is causing people do avoid chipping copies of certain books, not realizing that there are varying degrees of chipping and that you can't sweep them into the same category.
  14. Nobody knows for sure but 1964-66 Marvels were really bad (especially those two issues - they're known for many production defects) so odds are that they are like that from the factory. How is it relevant though? Since nobody knows for sure CGC would just grade the book in front of them as it sits.
  15. May or may not be a real auction. Dude has 3 previous real eBay sales.
  16. My point is that each book needs to be judged on it's own merits and not just whether it has chipping or no chipping as each case will vary.
  17. Correct. There is an infinite amount of degrees between 'no chipping' and 'lots of chipping'. Here is a book with very slight chipping on the right edge. It's right next to the ! on the right edge (next to the word "HULK!") Do you think it's value should be discounted because of it? Maybe it should sell for 9.0 money? Here is another book with Marvel Chipping. What a clunker.
  18. I dont't have as much experience but my opinion would be the same as Bob Storms. He pretty much covered it.
  19. Answered via PM. I have received a lot of inquiries about this book (probably more than any other book I've posted for sale here in quite a while) so I know my price is in the correct ball park. Just do a search and you will see that this is competitively priced compared to everything else out there available as I think I have this book priced right at retail / FMV. I don't think you'll find a nicer 5.0 at this price. For anyone who is interested, I am located just outside of Toronto, Canada but shipping is free and I will ship anywhere in the world. If you're in North America I will ship Overnight - all on me.
  20. That's what I'm saying. I think the internet and the increase in talk about certain things have brought much more awareness to defects. I also never cared about miswraps. I still don't but some people do and I think people in general care more than they used to in this new age of plenty.
  21. Yes, because the grade is likely to reflect the defect if its not chipping. Mid-grade books with chipping, from my perspective, always look worse than the given grade. Isn't the saying I always see pop up here "buy the book, not the grade"? In the context of marvel chipping, this adage implies paying too much. I think you're missing the point Bob and CGC were trying to make. Whether there is 1 square inch of paper missing from the front cover or several pieces that accumulate to 1 square inch, they are both accounted for in the grade. Why people say Marvel chipping is not factored into the grade is false. It is. So the point really is, do you prefer 1 square inch missing or several pieces that total 1 square inch because it seems that ANY and ALL books with chipping is being stigmatized and a book with a similar amount of paper missing (not Marvel chipping) wouldn't be.
  22. Of course they do and I've been saying this all along. The size of the defect determines the grade. All defects.
