No problem. Everyone needs to choose what they like or prefer. I'm not disagreeing with you but this is because everyone is laser focused on resale value now, at a level that we were never at before.

So it's GAtor's fault? I think that is around the time I started noticing it. Early on when I joined there wasn't nearly as much discussion on it (or other things like writing, etc)
-
I don't think anyone has said that you should pay more for ugly books than attractive ones. What I am seeing in my time on this chat forum (14 years) is I have noticed much more chatter in regards to defect affecting prices than there used to be.

In my opinion, there is currently an over reaction to Marvel chipping based largely on the discussions in this thread. There is fear and people are afraid of buying a chipped copy because of it (or at least paying equal money to a chipped copy). This exaggeration happens when people only think about long term investment. It's unfortunate. I think eventually it will settle down as it doesn't make sense for a chipped 6.0 to sell for less than an unchipped 5.0 or 5.5, does it?

Not to the same level that they do today, but they can because the internet offers more to choose from and price escalations make buyers more picky. CGC has always treated production flaws with less weight than handling flaws, and the reason they do it is obvious - they want to keep submitters submitting so they have to find a balance between pleasing sellers and buyers. It's not shooting darts blind. You've not going to have 6.0 books with chipping selling for 2.0 unchipped prices. At some point the market will stabilize enough to develop some sort of formula, as always happens.

People didn't care about it as much when they didn't care about the value of their books. Now everyone scrutinizes everything.

Colors always very in comics. On this one the red is just slightly more light than usual and it stands out more. Remember, these were crappy comics made for kids. Not expensive collectors items. They were meant to be read and thrown out.

MC quals up to 40 percent discount especially 3.5s and higher; not surprised I think 40% is high but I do think 25-30% is realistic. It didn't used to be that a chipped copy sold for much less (and like 'movie buzz being a thing, I didn't believe it at first) but ever since the chatter started on this chat forum it seems to have affected the market going forward. It's almost uniform across the board that chipped copies that I have been watching have been selling for 25-30% less. Obviously the percentage also varies depending on the amount of chipping and the eye appeal of the rest of the book. For example, one tiny chip may not affect the value of the book at all but an entire right edge being chipped will.

It looks to be variation of the color red from print.

Thanks guys. I am going to bump this thread as I have a few people interested but people seem fixated on the last GPA sale of $33K. As most people know, copies without chipping now fetch a premium, as do copies with exceptional eye appeal. That $33K copy was a copy with lots of chipping and poor eye appeal. You're just not going to get a premium looking copy like that for that GPA low price. My copy looks like a $120K 7.0 copy from the front. To you give you guys a better understanding of the market, someone who was inquiring about my copy recently just bought a CGC 5.5 that is not as nice looking as my copy and they paid $54K for it. Between the current market trends and Overstreet coming out with it's new Guide in July I might just have to raise the price on my copy. Message me with any interest.

Shipping: Certified books, shipping is included within North America, ROW we split it. Raw books, include $10 for shipping within North America. ROW I will split with interested parties. Who wins: Time stamp seals the deal as to who wins regardless of the form of communication (including PM, in the thread, text or phone conversation). A negotiation is not a deal until both sides have agreed on terms. If there is an unconditional posted (or communicated) it will trump all negotiations unless we have already both agreed to terms before the was posted. In that case, the will have been in vain. Except that it will give you street cred and look cool to passers by. No House Of Shame or Probationary members or any others of ill repute. Returns: I am considered a very good grader among my peers ( Here is a link to my kudos thread ) but since even CGC is inconsistent I will not guarantee a CGC grade. I will guarantee to be within one grade increment in either direction - so if I am calling the book a 9.4 it could go 9.2 or 9.6. If it falls outside of those parameters (and it does happen that they go in both directions), I will offer a refund. But I don't expect anyone to complain if I undergraded it. I will accept returns if item is otherwise not as described. Consider all books pressed. Payment: Paypal, bank wire, check or MO.

Photobucket doesn't any longer allow hosting unless you pay for it. You CAN just drag and drop the picture into the new forum software now. No need for Photobucket.
