  1. From what I know there is no VAT tax for comics coming into the UK, shipping will be much cheaper to ship to London, etc. What sort of customs problems do you have?
  2. Good points. I've typically played with money on Free Parking, but my point was more about trying to built up the expensive properties being the priority and not immediately. Whenever funds allow. I will typically spend most of my money acquiring and building the expensive properties keeping a little in reserve in case I land and have to pay something to someone. I will also typically buy up everything I land on to use as bargaining down the road.
  3. Yup. That's my experience as well. When you land on a Railroad it's a sigh of relief compared to landing on someone's built up property.
  4. You've clearly illustrated how different our personalities are. You seem to be more conservative with your investments whereas I am more of a risk taker. I would take the expensive properties EVERY time and build them up as fast as possible. Yes, you spend more initially but man, it's so easy to crush an opponent once they land on your decked out properties. I love scorching my kids when I play with them. It does teach them valuable lessons, though. Also, strategically, when you own the end of the board many players really count on that extra $200 when they pass go to top up. If they are struggling in that home stretch it can really be the final nail in the coffin.
  5. Susan and Mark are well known around these parts. They've been in it for decades. There are also several board members who have done extensive training and even started their own businesses, restoring books professionally. I think someone will be able to duplicate it at some point. It's not impossible and as comics get more expensive it becomes more and more easy to justify the cost of forgery.
  6. I had the exact opposite strategy. Avoid the utilities and railroads and buy up all the expensive properties and build like mad.
  7. I have a crazy story involving a former FBI agent, a new 'Church type collection' coming to market, two weeks of my life and one of the best New Years stories ever. Not sure if I've shared it on here or not.
  8. Yup. I think that this will be a boon for Europe.
  9. I had no idea, but then I haven't read the rules since the 1970's. Wonder if it has always been the rule.
  10. Appreciate it guys. I'm not a gambler (AT ALL) so I didn't think about probability but after I made my post I realized that the limitations of dice rolls would have certain odds AND then I realized that certain cards take you to certain places, also helping with the odds. I always just bought up all the most expensive properties and ruthlessly built them up. Greed and no mercy always helped me win at monoploy.
  11. I'm not going to make any excuses or try to justify what you have all gone through. It's unfortunate that it took so much time and effort to get what's owed to you. I will just say that Peter is known as being a very good person in the near 20 years that I've known him and not a con artist, so whatever the problem was I hope (and think) Pete will straighten it out. I do think it could have been handled more professionally to allay fears but I'm glad that you guys are finally getting your books back.
  12. It's not what you say, it's how you say it. I call myself the 'bearer of bad news' because 99% of the stuff I'm offered is junk. I explain it like this: Most books after the early 70's are not worth a whole lot unless they are absolutely perfect Mint (they have no idea what a 9.8 is but that eliminates any books that have any wear that is visible to the novice). And the reason they aren't worth much is because people began hoarding them because they realized they were worth something - so high supply = low valuation. I do explain that there are some books from the last 35 years that are worth something but they make up a very small percentage of the books released in the last 4 decades.
  13. Of course not. Everyone should always be accountable. But I think what jimjum12 was saying was that some people must have complained about it being out there in public. You'd have to ask Vinny why he pulled it from his episodes. We're just speculating.
  14. Illinois Avenue ... some say that it is the single most landed on property and the red color group makes it even more profitable if all three are owned. I don't understand how statistically one color can be landed on more than another. I always go for the Green properties and build as soon as possible. If you have Board Walk and Park Place you have the 'path of death' because it drains people quickly (although yes, statistically people don't land on BW and PP as often). I avoid the cheaper properties unless I'm absolutely flush or buying someone else out.
  15. Tim's also an elitist so he likes to have his ego stroked.
  16. tth2 is one of the old school big boys. He's owned some monster books including the BB 28 CGC 9.4 (that is now a 9.6) and others.
  17. That was my thinking as well. But listening to it, it was a CRAZY recollection of a comic dealer partying like a rock star (and I'm talking Motley Crue level of partying )
  18. The irony is that EVERYTHING you say about others, MANY think you are guilty of yourself. Now I'm really out.
  19. Structurally, that might be the nicest copy I've ever seen (and I've slabbed MANY 9.4 copies) It looks like a 9.6 with the dust shadow bringing the grade down.
  20. Discipline? This isn't a military exercise. I brain farted. Relax, Francis. You seem to see everything I say as 'condescending' and yet fail to see how condescending you are to everyone. There was no condescension in what I said. It's my perception of how you reply. "beneath you"? Don't know how you concluded that but you too might be delusional. Why would you think I am angry? I have nothing to be angry about. I'm just replying out of courtesy. When someone contradicts an actual truth and believes they are not, even after multiple attempts at correcting them, they are delusional. The only qualification I need is reading comprehension. Sure, but you and I talking about each other is completely unrelated to the topic of this thread. Have fun. I'm going to drop it as it's just going to go in circles.
  21. Likely won't happen. Just not profitable enough. 1st, Canada is not a very big market. One tenth the size of the US. 2nd, a European office allows people from all of Europe to submit through London.
