  1. He probably signed the book for Ryan Elliott, who can witness his own submission to PGX. Byrne likely didn't realize he was signing a book that was going to be slabbed.
  2. Because there are different types of inner wells. on older slabs. Some don't have the ledges for the comic to sit on and instead are sealed between two inner well pieces and held in place by pressure.
  3. You found a dealer to deal with the right way. Through patience and diligence rather than trial and error.
  4. Going to relist this one from a few weeks ago. There's a copy on Clink that sold for $1800 recently, there are two recent ones on GPA from 2016 @ $1170 and $2355 averaging $1763 and there is a sale two years ago Oct 2015 for $1989. Those average to $1775 Captain Marvel #33 CGC 9.8 OWW - contains the Origin of Thanos Asking $1500
  5. I'll be back later with more. This is what is left to list (both here in the MA/CA forum) G.I. Joe #21 CGC 9.8 Incredible Hulk #271 CGC 9.8 New Mutants #98 CGC 9.8 Punisher Limited #1 CGC 9.8 Strange Tales #179 CGC 9.8 X-men #61 CGC 9.6 X-men #114 CGC 9.8 X-men #129 CGC 9.8
  6. I want to point out that my current scanner doesn't capture dark covers as well since CGC has gone to the new cases, but this cover is spectacularly black and deep in hand. Avengers #12 CGC 9.2 OWW Asking $500
  7. Shipping: Certified books, shipping is included within North America, ROW we split it. Raw books, include $10 for shipping within North America. ROW I will split with interested parties. Who wins: Time stamp seals the deal as to who wins regardless of the form of communication (including PM, in the thread, text or phone conversation). A negotiation is not a deal until both sides have agreed on terms. If there is an unconditional posted (or communicated) it will trump all negotiations unless we have already both agreed to terms before the was posted. In that case, the will have been in vain. Except that it will give you street cred and look cool to passers by. No House Of Shame or Probationary members or any others of ill repute. Returns: I am considered a very good grader among my peers ( Here is a link to my kudos thread ) but since even CGC is inconsistent I will not guarantee a CGC grade. I will guarantee to be within one grade increment in either direction - so if I am calling the book a 9.4 it could go 9.2 or 9.6. If it falls outside of those parameters (and it does happen that they go in both directions), I will offer a refund. But I don't expect anyone to complain if I undergraded it. I will accept returns if item is otherwise not as described. Consider all books pressed. Payment: Paypal, bank wire, check or MO.
  8. I have some fresh CGC graded books to list for sale. Mostly high grade Silver / Bronze / Copper I'll start either tonight or tomorrow morning. Just need to scan them. This is the list. Avengers #12 CGC 9.2 OWW Avengers #78 CGC 9.8 OWW G.I. Joe #21 CGC 9.8 Incredible Hulk #271 CGC 9.8 New Mutants #98 CGC 9.8 Punisher Limited #1 CGC 9.8 Strange Tales #179 CGC 9.8 X-men #61 CGC 9.6 X-men #114 CGC 9.8 X-men #129 CGC 9.8
  9. I love the excitement of the find and the fact that you are documenting it so well. Unfortunately, it literally opens the entire world to the fact that you are looking at this collection and there are many people who would think nothing of either sabotaging your discussions or cutting in. There is always the possibility that someone else has seen this stuff and knows exactly who /where it is. I hope you guys get it and i hope that it works out awesome, but that is the reality.
  10. And that's my point: people want an "easy" way to identify a book, and so an "easy" way of dismissing restored books is what happened. Taking the 'easy path' is why people never really educated themselves on restoration. Those that did educate themselves on restoration started to realize that even within Purple Restored labels there were huge valuation swings. The move to the conserved label IMO forces people to better understand techniques and gives them more choices on what they want to purchased / collect.
  11. I don't think anybody feels left out. You did it the right way. You looked for information and managed to cull some good info out of your time hear. 5 figures is definitely worth getting out of bed over, but you also have to understand that there are lots of people who work with large deals all the time. And don't get me wrong, I'm also not trying to disagree with your decision of choosing Bob. If it's something that wasn't up my alley, I've been known to recommend Bob as well. My posts were more directed at what looked to me like an exaggeration that most of your other potential outlets were not trustworthy. There are quite a few very reputable people out there...and you found yours the right way. Through patience and personal recommendation rather than trial and error.
  12. If you hang around long enough you very quickly learn who the straight shooters are and which are not.
  13. Well of course. Whenever someone says "that book is undergraded" I just shake my head and wonder how they know - because you haven't held the book in hand. But my point was more towards the fact that books that look strong in grade most of the time sell for strong numbers either because a collector wants a nice looking copy or someone may be buying the book because they think it is undergraded and will upgrade to the next grade level.
  14. You're missing my point. Your point was the eBay was fraught with fraud...but it's also fraught with reputable sellers. How do you differentiate? Some already know. Others do their research. My point is that there will always be bad apples but there will also be plenty of reputable sellers on eBay as there are here.
  15. Dry cleaning is really just erasure. I can understand the point of placing 'cleaning' under a conserved label. It removes things from the paper that potentially may be harmful to the paper (or book). That is likely the reasoning for the change (along with all the other things that have moved from a Restored to a Conserved label). From what I understand, the reason for the change was so that the stigma of restoration would be removed from remedies which truly do help preserve the book structurally...because eventually, ALL books will need some form of work to preserve them. All of the work is still listed on the label and people can still choose based on the description 1) how much they want to pay 2) how much they want to avoid certain techniques
  16. Pressing was always going to be OK because it's too undedectable (with any degree of certainty) for anyone to try to detect it. And it is more or less benign. Nobody is saying cleaning is 'OK', meaning it gets a hall pass. It's FREAKING noted on the label, people. It's noted on both labels. The only thing that has changed is the designation from Restoration to Conservation. It's still the SAME BOOK with the SAME INFORMATION.
  17. What if the book is a 5.0 sitting in a 4.0 holder?
  18. What if a reputable seller (like Bob or myself) put up a big book on eBay?
  19. I’m in the same boat. I had no idea and I (thought) preferred them because they didn’t have a bp. The 'cash discount' might be legalese to allow them to charge a 3% BP for credit card use to cover their costs.
  20. If someone bought an 8.5 for $23K then they got a steal.
