  1. Bill Barnes #7 - covers completely split (although back cover attached at bottom staple), interior wraps beginning to split (brittle) but a tough book with a stunning centerfold splash of an atomic bomb attack on Japan that was printed in 1942 (years before Hiroshima and Nagasaki). Tough book. Asking $800 (only one I see available is a low grade one eBay for $2500) SOLD!
  2. Authentic Police Cases #14 6.0 Fine - back cover dog ear top left corner was straightened out, some mild foxing back cover, spine wear. Tough book. Asking $375 SOLD!
  3. Include $10 for shipping within North America. ROW I will split with interested parties. Who wins: Time stamp seals the deal as to who wins regardless of the form of communication (including PM, in the thread, text or phone conversation). A negotiation is not a deal until both sides have agreed on terms. If there is an unconditional posted (or communicated) it will trump all negotiations unless we have already both agreed to terms before the was posted. In that case, the will have been in vain. Except that it will give you street cred and look cool to passers by. No House Of Shame or Probationary members or any others of ill repute. Returns: I am considered a very good grader among my peers ( Here is a link to my kudos thread ) but since even CGC is inconsistent I will not guarantee a CGC grade. I will guarantee to be within one grade increment in either direction - so if I am calling the book a 9.4 it could go 9.2 or 9.6. If it falls outside of those parameters (and it does happen that they go in both directions), I will offer a refund. But I don't expect anyone to complain if I undergraded it. I will accept returns if item is otherwise not as described. Payment: Paypal, bank wire, check or MO.
  4. There were precedents but they weren't all public. I think that if the 8.5 had not been to market twice in such a short period of time it would have been stronger as it was a $125K book 4-5 years ago when I was offered a copy. There are other reasons why but I'm going to stop sharing information that can be used against me in the open market. I'll still maintain that the real explosion happened after the March CC auctions and while the 8.0 prices are aggressive, n my books they are still anomalies at this point even if there were two of them.
  5. There are plenty of examples throughout the hobby's history where books that have come back to market soon have gone cheaper than expected only for people to realize that they should have bid more after the auction. The Gary Keller books, the Marvel #1 Pay Copy, etc. The AF #15 8.5 owner did make out fine but if it was a fresh to market 8.5 I believe it may have done better. Looking down the road it won't matter and I think the buyer did extremely well with it.
  6. Agreed, wished they'd shut down altogether because they suck just as bad in the US. Had some window blinds delivered by them the other day, and the heaviest box (like 30 lbs. heavy) and its contents were beaten to excrement because the driver just tossed it in my driveway (couldn't even walk up to the front door). Now comes the fun of return and replace. F them. Odd, I've used Fed Ex for years with zero problems. The packaging needs to be strong enough to withstand shipping IMO. Thankfully I have a depot close to me.
  7. Has anyone confirmed whether CGC will still be grading in Baltimore? They pulled out of WW Chicago this year.
  8. Hulk #1 only really pulled back in lower grades and I believe it did so because there was a sharp rise and a lot of copies hit the market to cash in. In higher grades it continued to climb, with the exception of the 9.0 copy that sold at Clink in auction. That copy was sold because I believe someone wanted to cash out and whenever a book comes back to market quickly it scares of some bidders (just like the AF #15 Voldemart 8.5 that came back as a CGC 8.5). Had he held it for a couple of years it wouldn't have sold that cheap. I won the Clink Hulk #1 CGC 9.0 for a customer and that book is not going to sell that cheap again, if it comes back to market at all.
  9. Do you keep it out on the West Coast or back in NY? You didn't drive cross country in it did you? I had all the same questions!
  10. London to Toronto, Toronto to Chicago. Chicago to Toronto, Toronto to London. It's much simpler and I can close my eyes on the way. Interesting. They used to have am easy flight from Waterloo into Chicago but it's gone now. Between driving to Toronto, parking, going through security and then landing and getting from the Chicago airport to the hotel driving directly is about the same amount of time. Guess we'll see you there!
  11. absolutely the worst artist alley lineup I've seen. This show used to be the flagship show for Wizard. CGC is no longer doing onsite grading. Torpedo Comics won't be there. Many of the smaller, local dealers have been priced out of the show. It's a great show for social stuff but it looks like it's the death knell for WW Chicago as it continues to grow smaller. We also cancelled our concert because John from Torpedo won't be there.
  12. It's easier for you to drive, isn't it? Where are you flying out of?
  13. Pretty sure Tom Brulato owned the 1st 9.8 as he put his CGC 9.6 Curator on the market at the time.
  14. Storms has a few. They're also on his website.
  15. @Vintage comics.. I agree "top" characters can change over time but you're not understanding one thing. Spiderman has been top character with fans and children for as long as the early 60s. That makes it what over 50+ yrs now.. He's not going anywhere out of the top list anytime now or in the near future. Fact I've been collecting comics since I bought my 1st one off the newsstands in 1975. How old are you? You sound young. Not that age is a reflection of someone's intelligence but experience is a very different thing than book learning. I was in my early teens when Fantastic Four #1 was the top Silver Age Marvel and they are still my favorite SA title. Also, can I see the certification for your crystal ball which is able to tell the future and throw out 'facts' that haven't come to pass yet? I am not disagreeing that Spider-man is popular and near the top right now. I'm just disagreeing that something is automatically on top for ever just because it's on top right now. What I am arguing is that it will never change. NOBODY knows that for sure and people have been wrong for years about it.
  16. There you go! be careful. I just want to clarify a few things. The above is just my understanding based on my interaction with US Customs Border Patrol over the last decade or so. I cross about 50 times a year. It's gotten to the point that they know me as I cross so often. I'd certainly call them and ask specifically what you're allowed to do as the rules to a pro comic book dealer may not apply to someone who is just a collector. But I will stress that once you are in front of a border guard, you are at the mercy of the judgement of the individual standing in front of you and it's their personal judgement that decides which direction the crossing heads in. I'd call or Google and get your answers from US CBP as their answers are the only ones that matter.
  17. @Kalel38 You're (not your) missing the point. The 'top' characters can and do change over time. It's not a constant.
  18. Peter, I saw the Facebook pic. Wondering if someone saved an actual scan from previous discussions.
  19. Hey Shane from your question, you sound like the gentleman who was just in my shop in London, Ontario. If these were mine, and I was specifically asked about the books, I would say I was bringing them across for evaluation. That being said, I doubt you'll be asked about them. Andy @shane1956 I would tread carefully. Taking books across the border with the intent to sell can likely be considered working without a work permit or proper VISA under US law. You are crossing the border with commercial goods with the intention of selling them (receiving money for goods) and that is unlawful without a work permit or a VISA permitting it. It used to be a grey area but under new anti terrorism and anti money laundering laws (mostly instituted or enforced since 9-11) they have become very strict with this sort of thing.
