  1. Roy, I think he was referring to the Big 3 (A1, T27, AF15), not all keys. When Whiz #1 and Thunda #1 were at the top of their game there was no AF #15, or it wasn't even in the top 5 as it was too young. How about Archie d1 and Pep #22? Two books that nobody really took seriously and yet they are now super keys. Yes they are not as expensive as AF #15 but they came out of nowhere and catapulted forward into the realm of GA super keys. My real point is that 'favorite' changes over time. It's not a constant. Just 7 years ago when Action #1 CGC 6.0 sold for a record price of $317K everyone was raving that it will forever be the greatest comic of all time. Que a few years later and people are discussing whether Detective #27 is a better book than Action #1, and some even believe it is (you'd think it was 1989 all over again when Tex #27 took over Action #1 in the Guide ) The only thing that is constant is change. At least in the current times we live in.
  2. You mean in the past? I don't see any recorded sales prices so it might not be publicly known unless someone on here in the know knows.
  3. You'd be wrong. There are many books throughout the hobby that were highly regarded and traded for regularly rising prices that have either tanked or flatlined. Whiz Comics #1 (although it has rebounded with movie buzz, it was basically all but forgotten a few years ag - I know because I was collecting the title), Thunda #1 which was highly colllected because it was all Frank Frazetta, Red Raven #1 which was a holy grail for Timely collectors and even the highly revered Marvel Comics #1 (which seems to be rebounding as people come to their senses). And if you'd asked ANYBODY when these books were highly sought after at their peaks, they'd all tell you that there is no way these books would drop in desirability. Hindsight is 20/20. Never say never.
  4. So quality wins over time? Imagine that. American automakers still haven't learned that lesson. The Japanese have.
  5. You know, I misread your previous post and thought you said there were more comic stores in the 1970's which could not have been true, Now I see you said the 80's. Comics only stores don't survive but that alone doesn't mean it's because comics are declining. There are a zillion venues to buy books now. And to my recollection comic stores always had other things in them (my recollection goes back to the mid-late 80's. They just have more of those other things now than they used to. But to answer your questions, it is regional.
  6. I wouldn't even call it the death of a medium. I'd just call it a diversification of the medium.
  7. This is a factor that only the largest companies seem to take into account. Disney is setting up shop in Asia. What was the world's population when Action #1 hit and when FF #1 hit the newsstands? I don't think we really know which direction things are going to go for sure but most large companies have started to realize that population growth is a real factor to account for in business.
  8. Bob, you can either hit the "Mark As Sold" feature above your 1st post and this will close the thread even though the books have not sold or you can write "CLOSED" in the title. That just keeps people from bumping a thread that is no longer being used.
  9. I did a deal with James that went seamlessly (I was the seller). Thanks, James!
  10. Amazing Spider-man #149 CGC 9.8 OWW GPA has 12 month average @ $2895 and 90 day average (1 sale) @ $2807. Asking $2800 (including shipping within NA)
  11. Who wins: Time stamp seals the deal as to who wins regardless of the form of communication (including PM, in the thread, text or phone conversation). A negotiation is not a deal until both sides have agreed on terms. If there is an unconditional posted (or communicated) it will trump all negotiations unless we have already both agreed to terms before the was posted. In that case, the will have been in vain. Except that it will give you street cred and look cool to passers by. No House Of Shame or Probationary members or any others of ill repute. Returns: For Raw books I am considered a very good grader among my peers ( Here is a link to my kudos thread ) but since even CGC is inconsistent I will not guarantee a CGC grade. I will guarantee to be within one grade increment in either direction - so if I am calling the book a 9.4 it could go 9.2 or 9.6. If it falls outside of those parameters (and it does happen that they go in both directions), I will offer a refund. But I don't expect anyone to complain if I undergraded it. I will accept returns if item is otherwise not as described. Consider all books pressed. Shipping: Prices include shipping within North America for CGC graded books. Payment: Paypal, bank wire, check or MO.

  14. it's actually not a bad idea. Have a pass that is Silver and Gold pavilion exclusive but also allows for access into the con if you choose to use it.
  15. The problem is that the Internet Age has it's own set of issues in dealing with the law as they differ across borders. I was scammed by a guy in California about 6 or 7 years ago and the hoops I had to jump through made it nearly impossible to do anything credible. I even spoke to the guys local police force at the time and they couldn't do anything without going through the proper channels. Now if it was my book and I could reasonably make the trip today, I'd be paying the idjit a visit.
  16. Don't I usually agree with you about everything?
  17. Not only is this guy a no good thief but also a total insufficiently_thoughtful_person. I hope it works out.
  18. Nope. He was there for years. I left in 95 and the clerk still worked there I was at a small show in Cleveland where a Superman #1 walked up to the booth. The guy minding the book told the guy that the owner would be back and to come back later. The guy never came back. I heard about it after he'd walked away. Spent the rest of my day trying to find him. Never did.
  19. AND get what you pay for OR have someone take care of it quickly and efficiently if you didn't. Now it's just off shore call centers brushing you off until you get tired of trying to get your money back.
