  1. Matt Baker: The Art Of Glamor has some terrific info about the Flamingo character if anyone wants to read up on it. This Google link should take to some interior pages from the book. https://books.google.com/books?id=gdmqDgAAQBAJ&pg=PA55&lpg=PA55&dq=flamingo+jerry+iger's+studio+matt+baker+art&source=bl&ots=gN6YNx5dcn&sig=VnIZcLizVlOAM9CZpgZgo5R-1hw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj-o-777_fTAhUHsFQKHeXXCbUQ6AEITDAL#v=onepage&q=flamingo jerry iger's studio matt baker art&f=false
  2. I can't be bothered to scroll o the bottom to search for emoticons so I've succumbed to just reusing the same old ones over and over. I'm still not a fan of how much narrower the new chat forum is and how much more scrolling is involved. I've limited my use of the forum because of it. I just can't be bothered wrestling with it.
  3. It is. I've owned it for years. And I realize the price is aggressive but the only comparables that I could find were pieces that sold on Heritage in the $6000-7000 range years ago. I figure if Baker comics are fetching 5 figures, owning a one of a kind piece that is irreplaceable is in that ball park as well.
  4. In cane someone is interested, I've put up for sale my Matt Baker original art. Link to eBay listing. This page was presumably drawn in 1946 but went unpublished until it was found in the Iger studios. It was then published in 1984 in Jerry Iger's Famous Features (1984, Pacific Comics). Matt Baker pages are rare and NICE Matt Baker pages with gorgeous GGA are even more rare. Usually you get a glimpse of GGA art. This piece is stunning in hand (more than half the page is a splash with a gorgeous, full front and detailed Flamingo drawing) and Flamingo is featured in 3 of the 4 panels. Please message me here with any questions or interest.
  5. I haven't voted yet but my personal opinion after spending months on the new site is that it still takes great efforts to read smoothly compared to the old site. The new site is less compact (vertically) and causes a lot of scrolling (some of the little stuff like the "Like" and "Submit Reply" buttons and bars still take up too much space relative to the actual text I want to read. Having said that, one of the features that also makes this site so less intuitive and smooth is all the additional clicking you have to do to get somewhere where one click used to be enough. For example, If I want to add a graemlin I have to click on the graemlin tab and then scroll through several pages worth to find what I want. Messages? I have to click on the envelope and THEN "Go To Inbox" to find messages that are past the top 4 in my inbox. I think adding an extra click (stop scrolling, click and see if you're interested) in a thread you are interested in reading anyway is much more annoying than just scrolling past something you don't want (a natural motion on a phone). The lack of quotes within quotes already cleans up the site considerably from that standpoint. That was very annoying when unnecessary stuff kept getting quoted over and over. There's already too much extra clicking going on in this new format IMO so I'd be against adding the plug in.
  6. Louise saw it twice and also said it was much better upon 2nd viewing. That's a tall testament to the depth of the movie. I thought this was an excellent article explaining why DC and other companies are destroying their franchises in an effort to try to establish a crossover universe too quickly rather than slowly and steadily building up a universe the way Marvel has done. Marvel has the magic formula. How 'King Arthur' Was Killed by a Would-Be Franchise
  7. jeeze, a little behind the modern times aren't ya? We don't like when you young whippersnappers change the English language.
  8. Actually I think you'd lose quite a bit You missed my humor!!!!11132$#@
  9. It's a bargain!!!111 Can't lose investment!!!111
  10. Everyone has a perspective. Older GA guys care less about value and more about the actual books IMO. So when they see AF #15's on every corner but they don't see similar GA keys in such numbers it makes AF #15 look common. But if someone beats only one drum and doesn't listen, that changes the perception from having a perspective to having a motive. You can't talk a book like AF #15 down and I don't think that is what anyone is trying to do. People are just sharing their thoughts on why certain things happen. That's very different than pumping or talking down a book.
  11. Can't argue there, there will always be folks that are ok with being unethical or doing illegal things. Cherry picking auction prices is a form of manipulation.
  12. It's a d-bag move to snake the creator for coin when they are profiting from it. Hopefully CGC can resolve this. Even though I'm not a Sig Series guy, I understand the need for it. It would be a shame if people can't get witnessed sigs from one of the greatest creators of the bronze age.
  13. Well, it already has. Hulk #1 has started rising again because surrounding keys have made it look cheap. I called it last August, remember?
  14. That's a valid point. I remember when I first offered my Hulk #1 9.0 at the new price point a few years ago nobody wanted to step up. I spoke to a few buyers who scoffed at the price. After you bought it from me they all wanted a shot at the book again. We all know how that turned out. Looked like a bargain today.
  15. The problem with recording prices with defects listed is where do you stop drawing the line? Some people don't care about chipping but they may care about something like miswraps, or date stamps, etc. So that's why reading GPA is not the be all and end all and it takes a little deciphering to really establish values for some books if there is a variation in price. And I think it's worth mentioning that it may not even be a defect that may cause a low price. Venue choice can also be a cause. Most people don't realize this but sometimes GPA includes venues outside of the usual auction houses for information. For example, a few years ago there was a professional auction house (but not one that specializes in comics) on the East coast that had a huge comic auction but even though it was well advertised it didn't fetch very strong prices. Most books went for about 2/3 of market value. Well, these prices were recorded on GPA. I remember one book in particular, an ASM #1 CGC 8.5 went for a record low price. I think it went for $23K when in fact all previous sales were in the $30K range. Well, IMO that recorded price absolutely killed the ASM #1 market for a few years in the VF+ range and it took years for ASM #1 prices to recover. Why? Because people see that 1 low price, assume the market is tanking and then don't want to bid higher. So yeah, it's important to keep in mind that a single price point doesn't necessarily establish the FMV.
  16. Grading is relatively subjective to some degree (it's not like a VF can be a VG but the subtle differences from VF to VF+ can sometimes be blorred) and because I think grading is subjective, the standards change when the people doing the grading change because different people can feel differently about some defects. We saw that when Borock left CGC and Haspel became primary grader, etc, etc.
  17. I just keep in mind that everyone is bidding with the same premium so at least it's a level playing field.
  18. Just bid as though the price with the premium is your top price and it becomes a non factor. Heritage's site is fantastic as it does the math for you.

  20. If we can't talk about investment there's nothing else to talk about. no
  21. Don't worry, he will be back pimping before we know it - he can't help himself. Besides that, I'm dying to know what's the 2nd most desirable baseball card so I can pick it up. There are no auctions ending with record prices so there's just nothing left to talk about.
  22. I missed this post yesterday. Yes, the GL 76 thread is another perfect example. These boards carry more sway than people like to believe they do. Directly, no. But the 'pump and pump' mentality coupled with some 'record prices' from previous auctions (of which some are dubious) CAN pressure people into spending more than they normally would if they feel that prices are actually rising. There is an expected relationship between color and quality. And that's not CGC's fault, it's the way the hobby has evolved. In 1970 it wasn't as important or as noticed, because a) the hobby was young and books didn't deteriorate as much as they did 50 years later b) values weren't as relevant so people didn't parse hairs. But in an era where values matter more than anything else, all of a sudden it becomes important to be more accurate with designations. Hence the splitting of grades from G-F-M to a 25 point scale. Having said all that, the majority of the time paper color and paper quality are closely related. The whiter (or closer to original color) the paper is, the closer the quality is to original as well. There are exceptions but they are just that: exceptions.
  23. Not recently, no. I find changes in grading standards like that frustrating.
