  1. You can have a crease that size on a 6.5. I don't think that keeps the book from upgrading into the upper VG range.
  2. And this is a terrific reason why outliers shouldn't be used at the new bar for a price point.
  3. Magik Woo was a dancer in the 1980's if I'm not mistaken. He appeared on music shows and in dance competitions, which is how how made his living. I don't think he collects any longer. I believe he is slowly selling off his collection through Heritage. I did a Heritage archives search for 'Woo' and came up with this. https://comics.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?Nty=1&Ntk=SI_Titles-Desc&Ns=Price|1&N=52+790+231&Ntt=woo&ic4=SortBy-071515 Most of the non-CGC books are his so that will give you an idea of what he used to collect. I did a Google search and found this thread (albeit on the old forum software) http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8112374&fpart=1 Now you know as much as I do about him. I have met him a couple of times on West coast trips at shows. He's nice enough to talk to and loved high grade comics, even when he was younger.
  4. Carbo was also supposedly getting married at the show with Stan officiating. Am I safe in saying that this was <spoon> as well? Stan was supposed to do a signing I heard about and couldn't. He's getting really old. He wasn't at the wedding but Vincent officiated the wedding and he was posting live video feeds of the wedding on his Facebook page. It was amusing.
  5. Magick was a guy who sought out high end books well before there was slabbing. He sold his collection through Heritage over the years. The AF #15 7.5 being discussed as well as the Susepnse #3 9.0 that sold a few years ago were his.
  6. That copy sold for $40K. $40K is the right price range for a 6.0 IMO
  7. I sure do. If you weren't a Superboy collector you weren't a real collector.
  8. "Always" is a long time. (look at FF1 in the 80s/ 90's) There was a time when nobody wanted a Showcase #4. There was a time when GA was flat over a decade ago. I remember talking to another former dealer about it and wondering why GA was dead. There was a time when Marvel #1 was the most valuable book in OSPG. Whenever someone says 'always' I reminded by what my old shop teacher said: Never say never.
  9. I spent yesterday in NYC checking out some of Burk's books as well other Church books that have been graded through the years (pre Borock leaving, through Haspel and to the present) in the Metro booth (who else would have a bunch of Church books on hand at any given time). The grading on the Suspense #3 is typical of how Mile High books are graded. Every book I looked at ranging in grade from 9.0 - 9.6 made this 9.2 look like it would fall right into place. And this book is MUCH nicer than the VF/NM copy that sold a few years ago. Is it a CGC 9.2? I guess we won't know unless it gets subbed. Is it the nicest copy of this book on the planet. Very possible.
  10. I highly doubt that is a real sale. Do you really think a CGC 5.5 (with COW pages) just sold for 50% over market and over what 6.0 copies sell for?
  11. Metro does use the competition so it's definitely a conscious choice.
  12. A perfect example of how not everything can go up, up, up. Even the best of the best needs a break once in a while. GA was in a bit of a slump for a while there.
  13. +1 As do I. When I spoke to Harley (when we first found out about the collection I was on the road) I immediately said it will probably be the biggest collection to date.
  14. For the same reason that one drink, one donut or one hit of your favorite drug is never enough.
  15. It is the best book in Billy Parker's collection.
  16. It's all good. The only reason I know is because I thought the same thing years ago.
  17. Thanks for your punk rock opinion. I will never understand CGC's policy of not allowing people to talk about other grading companies but I didn't want the thread pulled because it's a book worth talking about.
  18. I can't link it here because it's not graded by CGC but it's a NM- Wowsers.
  19. Thanks Manuel! I'm going to close this thread off so I can move the books elsewhere. If someone is still interested in the Amazing Spider-man #129 CGC 9.8 White or Fantastic Four #10 CGC 9.0 OWW I am open to discussion and you know where to reach me.
  20. Okay, I should not have used the word 'rarely' but certainly much less than today. In 2008 it looks like about 180,000 books were slabbed with maybe 1/4 from the current decade. In 2016, 400,000 books were slabbed with about 150,000 from the current decade. In 2008 ,Moderns were not nearly as speculative as today. Bob, there is an ever increasing number of all slabbed books. I think it took 8 or so years for CGC to reach their 1st million books and about half that time for them to reach their 2nd million books. I think we're easily at 3MIL now if I"m not mistaken.
