  1. There's a club owner in Toronto that I promised a NM 98 to as a gift the next time I see him. I promised to get him a copy 3 months ago. He tells me he's wanted a copy his entire life. I think he's about 35. He no longer actively collects (he holds what he has), he certainly doesn't speculate. He just wants a copy. There's going to be a lot of people like that.
  2. Deadpool blew up a few months ago? NM 98 has been a $400 book in 9.8 for almost two years now. And it was a $200-300 book before that. A 9.9 copy sold for $12,000 several years ago. I was seeing zillions of Deadpool costumes at shows more than 5 years ago. Deadpool being hot is not new.
  3. I think most older collectors (those watching the speculation going on) don't realize how big Deadpool actually is. Like I said earlier, I've heard store owners tell me that Deadpool literally carries their stores financially. It's Wolverine all over again, and he's been going strong for what, 25+ years?
  4. Gotta move to Akron... No, you really don't want to. What happened to Akron? Dying town? Some of my best memories as a late teen and young man are rooted in Akron. Did you live in Akron, Roy? I work about 15 minutes outside of Akron but I worked in downtown Akron for about 10 years before taking this job. I have an aunt and uncle and cousins just outside Loyal Oak just off Cleveland / Massilon Rd and I was also best friends with a family just outside Cuyahoga Falls and spent many a weekend partying in downtown Akron and at the Red Roof Inn just off Fairlawn in the late 1980's. My sister ended up marrying the oldest brother of my buddies down there. There were many good times had by this boardie in Akron.
  5. Minecraft is a raging success. Yes it is. And it seems to have some lasting power. I just never got into it and now it seems kind of silly. But I know a lot of people that think comic books are silly. My son and Lou's son played it incessantly. They're addicted and what is neat about it is that it's fairly PG and clean compared to many games. At least I think it is.
  6. I heard that buyers and readers are actually increasing. So all those young people who have been buying or reading comics for the past 15 years won't count because their memories won't be nostalgic? I don`t really see any mainstream books that came out these last 15 years exploding in value like NM #98? Did anybody see Deadpool becoming this big 20 years ago?

  10. It might, depending on what the PM says, and how much thinking is required in order to reply to it! I'm just saying I don't think there's any need to worry after a day and a half. It is just almost 48hrs since the original email with the paypal address for payment was sent . They had board activity after they read it and none since that day. I guess I have just never not replied to a PM when dealing with a seller. Have not sold here before and so far not turning out to be a great experience so far. So I get the rules right and don't do anything wrong. I have to tie up said purchase for 30days if they do not respond to the PM? I would say that IF it bothers you that much to not have communication for 1.5 days, transactions here might be a rough go. HOWEVER, in the future, consider a term in your sales threads "If payment is not made within X days of invoicing, otherwise I reserve the right to negate the sale." Or something firmer if you prefer. Or at this point, I'd gently email the seller and ask if everything is OK or when I might be able to expect payment. It's definitely normal not to hear from a buyer sometimes for days, especially on eBay. I'd base my reaction on whether it's a longtime member or a noob too. If it's someone that is highly respected, I wouldn't bother them unless a few days went buy as I'd just bank on them following through when they're ready, although I have had even respected board members forget about things. It happens. That's why I'd always go with the nice reminder after a bit of time has passed.
  11. Mardi Gras is in February, which is 2 months after December. That book would likely have hit the newsstands in October (I think). Possibly a New Years Eve celebration depicted? Why not check the story inside? I would but I don't have a copy.
  12. It's odd but it happens. How long has it been since you sent the PM? Sometimes people read on their mobile device while on the go but don't respond immediately. Generally, 24 hours is what I would consider acceptable for a reply. After that, I might send a polite 'nudge' to ask what they have in mind for payment.
  13. That line is probably a product of the scanner. There might be a very light line on the inside of the glass (where the hardware runs up and down the scanner, on the inside). I think it happens to all scanners at some point. Might be nothing you can do without polishing the inside of the glass.
  14. Sometimes flipping the slab around in the scanner or opening the scanner door might make a difference. You may not be able to make it go away completely- some scanners make it happen and there's nothing you can't do about it.
  15. I'm sure there will be hundreds of stories of "wow, they didn't care about X-Force 2, I got it so cheap!" Anyone know the print run? X-Force 1 with the Deadpool card seems to be caught up in the silliness as well. Someone sent me a link to an auction where two fools paid $30 for a copy: Ebay I saw somewhere that there were about 966,000 copies of X-Force 1 printed. Even if you include a generous 2nd print run, there are at least 161,000 copies (966,000/6) of the Deadpool card. I wouldn't be surprised if the person bidding has a long box himself. I've changed my mind, Deadpool has Beanie Babies written all over it. While I don't disagree on the X-force thing, Deadpool is by far the most popular character among the young crowd. Deadpool costumes abound at shows and some entire stores are funded by Deadpool sales. It's Wolverine all over again.
  16. +1 Worst character on the show and her acting is horrid. It reminds me of one of those wretched made for T.V. U.S.A. channel movies from years ago. I'm on the fence about it too. I think she over acted in the second episode but absolutely soared over everyone else in the first one. I think the entire show still looks like a 'made for TV' movie, unfortunately.
  17. Hyperbole: 'Pilots can be great. AMC has proven that.' Do you realize for the few huge successes AMC has had all the failed attempts this station has made? It's just easy to assume everything they touch is gold because the few shows that win are tremendously successful. I didn't say that everything AMC touches is gold. I was referencing the shows I'd mentioned previously so that I didn't have to type them out again. It was shorthand for WD, H on W and BB (which all happen to be on AMC). Mad Men too. My point is that just because it's a pilot does not mean it shouldn't be good. Those other shows had terrific pilots. If a pilot doesn't grab you then the show is going to have a very hard time keeping the average Joe coming back for more. Anyhow, like I said, I plan on giving the show a chance. I'll just bow out of the discussion. I think I've made my points.
  18. Pilots can be great. AMC has proven that. Who said the entire series was a bust? Roy, I get the feeling you are itching for something. Itching for something = wanting something very badly I'll let you go back through the two threads (WC and CG) and pick out those that said this series is not for them after the pilot. There are some that also felt 'Breaking Bad' is now the benchmark for hard-hitting TV series, and that this didn't match this benchmark. Anything else? Let me know. Thanks. I'm not itching. You just keep speaking in hyperbole and making blanket statements that I think are inaccurate. Since you said some people thought the series was a bust I asked who those people were.

  20. Now that is a show critique I can agree with. Shield lost me after five episodes because I kept waiting for something superhero-related to happen. It's natural when you think of the Marvel Universe now. See, again you're assuming that everyone wanted to see something 'superhero' in Gotham. That's not the case with me. I have not seen a single episode of Smallville but always assumed that it had nothing to do with the superhero angle so I assumed Gotham was the same. I didn't wait for something superhero to happen and I didn't want to be like Breaking Bad. I just wanted it to be good. That's all.
