  1. Spirit of the boards is also up to interpretation as many people find comfort in following rules exactly, even their own. And for what it's worth, I would have given the book to Mike if it was me but I understand why Mike also didn't get it. So that is why I think we need a standard, community set of rules...so that if all else fails, those rules act like a catch-all. Because ultimately, the point of this conversation is not to draw lines and choose sides but to eliminate the problem.
  2. Look at the feedback left by someone. That may have been a scam.
  3. Two more nominations of breath taking work ( feel bad for the woman on the R14 but it's a gorgeous cover). One of the best Baker covers of all time IMO
  4. Doolin! That's correct (sorry Cheetah - memory is getting hazy, I said Lubbers). How about we just pop this one into 1st place automatically! LOVE IT!
  5. Vodka Of course, you're right. But is he a Regular, or Dirty Martini guy? Martinis are for British spies. Kraven drinks it straight, like all real men do. Straight out of the... bowl? When in Rome...

  7. I grew up being spooked as a kid watching these black and white flicks and I still get that same feeling every time I see them. I hope they do them justice.
  8. I hate that crepe. Got any gold coins No, but I'd accept them as payment for comics.
  9. Sure, but then at least you know what the rules are! There's nothing wrong with not using the regular rules. It's just that 'regular rules' mean different things to different people, but if someone posts a list of the 'regular rules' from the Rules thread then they are forced to either accept those rules or change them. Either case is fine but in both cases at least there is no ambiguity. It's the ambiguity that causes so many fights in selling threads.
  10. Sure, if you spell the rules out. But if someone says 'regular rules' and don't spell them out, then nobody knows what they are - unless there is a default set of rules. We've all seen the fights and arguments. We're just trying to make this place run more smoothly and eliminate problems for those sellers who don't post their rules clearly.
  11. Payment expected in XXX amount of time, books will be shipped out in XXX amount of time after receipt of payment #3 is nice but doesn't ring true for everyone. Howabout internationals? whats the return policy? Ok this is getting tedious howabout everyone just lay out their own freaking terms it ain't that hard? Questions about return policy can be asked in the thread - we can't cover every possible rule. What we are really trying to do is form a fair lineup for all those interested in the same book so that there is no confusion on who took the book. That is where most of the problems lie in the 'regular rules' phrase.
  12. Well, here are a few issues that have risen out of the 'regular rules apply' posts: 1) Who gets the book in this case? PM unconditional or in the thread unconditional ? I understand time stamp should take priority but some people believe that in the thread takes precedence over in a PM (although I never understood that logic). 2) How about this? pending scan but then someone else takes it unconditionally? I'm sure there are more but you get the idea. This is a great idea. (thumbs u This would appease people that are lazy and don't want to write out their own rules while also allowing those that wish to write out their own rules do so. I really like this. Have a set of "regular rules" drafted and added to the selling forum rules officially by the moderators. If the seller posts in his sales thread that 'regular rules apply but doesn't stipulate those rules, then boardies are free to copy those rules into the sales thread, point to the selling thread rules posted by Arch and ask to confirm that these are the rules they are referring to. If not, the seller is forced to make amendments to the rules on the spot so there is no confusion...but the posted rules are the automatic default until the seller states otherwise. Seems to be the most elegant and painless solution so far and would eliminate a zillion headaches.
  13. I like the underlying notion behind this comment, in terms of maintaining fairness. However, this leads to another elephant in the room, which has sort of come up before in discussion, but never really fleshed out...(and this applies not only to "regular rules" threads, but also more generally to threads that don't follow marketplace guidelines for whatever reason)... Let's say we get Arch to add a "no regular rules" guideline, and therefore moderators in principle will pull the thread as soon as they can. So, a "regular rules" thread comes along, and some of us stand on principle and abstain from purchasing books from the thread, because it clearly needs to be pulled. Meanwhile, another one of us comes along and posts up a 'take it'...you know, because it's a really cool book. Then, of course, the transaction gets completed before mods can pull the thread. Happens all the time. So, (as is typical in many arenas of life) those of us who stood on principle miss out. What are we going to do then? No way will Arch/mods get involved to "undo" that transaction. So, do we just pull out the pitchforks and try to publicly shame the purchasing boardie for making the purchase in a thread that doesn't meet guidelines? Maybe it was an "innocent" purchase from the purchasing boardie's perspective, maybe not. Point is that it'll be hard to maintain "fairness" in this respect as long as boardies can complete transactions in "violating" threads...and I see no clear way to moderate this. So, how do we handle a situation where a boardie posts a 'take it' in a "regular rules" thread before the thread gets pulled? Tough problem. Mod seem to act pretty quick when the notify button is activated but yeah, it can become sloppy I suppose. I still believe in adding the "no 'regular rules' allowed" in sales threads rules and then possibly polite discourse in threads that use it for those who didn't know better. It will take some time to transition but if consistently applied it will eventually become the norm. So what sort of things need to be covered with the 'regular rules"? Method of payment? Time stamps (will a seller accept a purchase privately via PM) Do unconditional purchases trump conditional ones or is it up to the seller's discretion? etc.
  14. Best cover of the run. Congrats! +1 Thanks fellas. Any guesses on cover artist? GDC says Schomburg? Schomburg gets my vote - those evil Nazis are definitely drawn Schomburg.
  15. Threads without full rules should just be pulled out of fairness for everyone (and not directed at anyone in particular).
  16. The term regular rules also makes the concept of first come, first served muddy. I think just noting in the rules that 'regular rules' is not allowef would help.
  17. Agreed. Arch should amend the rules and the term 'regular rules' should not be allowed. It just opens the doors to so many problems.
  18. I had my finger on the 'take it' trigger on that book well before the conditional taker's post. I likewise held off because of several issues in the initial thread specification, including the fact that no rules were specified (not to mention the OP's clearly revealed state of being at the time...don't need the drama A good and considered point. If a friend phoned me up one evening to sell a book cheaply and they sounded drunk, I'd say call me back in the morning. Take it pending pics. Does that mean if he never provides pics he does not have to complete the sale? I don't think "Take it pending pics" is a reasonable response to an item for sale. Either you take it then and there, or you don't. My personal opinion is that 'take it pending pics' shouldn't be allowed. It just complicates things and adds a layer of noise and confusion. Obviously, posting scans is thevway to go but I understand also that there can be circumstances that someone needs to sell something for whatever reason and pics are not immediately available but in those cases, a seller should at least stipulate whether an unconditional trumps the conditional one or not. My
  19. I was being sarcastic. I've subscribed to GPA for as long as it's been around. I get a little irked by all this talk about movies and values and how disproportionately 'awesome' books become once there is a media announcement. ST #110 has been around a long time ( exactly 50 years) and was always a C- tier book but now that there is a movie announcement, prices are going to rise to nosebleed levels and it becomes an 'awesome book'. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool book. I'm an early Marvel guy and still get giddy when I see high grade SA Marvels. I'm just not a fan of this latest generation of movie hype and price bumps going on. I sometimes think it's silly and just wish comics went back to being collector by readers.
