  1. Don't be too sure. People act like they do when they go to Vegas when they go to SDCC.....they tend to get a little starry eyed and reckless with their money. Plus there is something to be said for actually being able to hold an awesome mega key in your hand and not just seeing a scan of it on your computer. Impulse buying can certainly be a factor and dealers need to mark up somewhat to pay for their travel expenses and their space. -J. Impulse buys are one thing but paying double market? Most people aren't going to do that. I've been surveying ST #110's around the room. Found a few reasonably prices ones - aggressive, meaning towards the upper end, but still reasonable. Others? 2 times what they are actually selling for right now. 6.0 copies for $4000. Some dealers are having a hard time replacing keys so they are just marking them up high with a 'take it or leave it', non negotiable price. And believe me when I tell you that some of the prices are absolutely non negotiable. Zero. And it's always been that way for SD (meaning, strong prices) but it seems to be amplified this year. 4000 for a 6.0 is a bit rich right now, but it might be 2015 prices. You think the book is going to almost double in price after already going up 500% in two years? If you think about it... that it has gone up 500% in the last two years alone... isn't that really a plausible reason why it might go up almost 100% in the coming year? You're right, if the movie is really good it might give AF #15 a run for it's money.

  4. Nearly every key in the room is priced at 2019 prices. My opinion is that most dealers won't be selling their key books at those prices.
  5. It's an apples and oranges discussion again, as always happens when some people talk about dollar values and some don't. Cap #1 may have increased in value lately due to media exposure of the character but I don't think it's a more important book than Marvel #1. And if dollar values were not as high as they are for key books, my opinion is that the investment crowd wouldn't have pushed the value of Cap #1 so high. It's the appeal of investment that changes market leaders so drastically IMO and not a change of heart and not the immediate new love of a character. And I'm not dumping on Cap #1, it's a killer book...and I'm primarily a Timely guy, but there was a time when it was a slow book. Thanks Roy for your thoughts and I'm probably not explaining myself well (like usual )... No dumping on Cap-1 taken whatsoever as it is interesting to read everyone's opinions on this topic as it has been an excellent discussion to follow. The question, for me at least, is if the Cap-1 book is in a sustainable growth mode over a longer time frame and how that growth compares vs. the other Big-3. It'll be interesting to follow as we move forward as we see PEP-22 making a move upward, per Adam's above post, so how will all these books look, in hierarchy/valuation, in 5-10-15 years from now. (thumbs u What I find more interesting than the ranking is how they got there. It's not about reading anymore, which nobody foresaw coming decades ago.

  7. + 1 And the value....my guess is 600k to 700k...? Has the value of the 9.8 been discussed? Is that a $2mil book? $1.5MM according to CPG, but I can imagine that it would take off. Not to the level of the Nicolas Cage Action Comics #1, but I think it would break Guide. Throw Guide out the window. If it was on the market with a $2M price tag it would likely sell as it would drive potential buyers who would be thinking about it crazy. Chances of a similar copy would be about zero and a 9.8 major early key is really unheard of. Who dares wins. Exactly! We're talking about a 9.8 major key. I'd have to believe it would generate as big a frenzy as Action 1 or Tec 27. I'd love to see that one come up for auction in my lifetime. Well, Verzyl turned down a mil offer on the Mile High All Am 16..9.4...he told me his Cap 1 is going to the grave with him...as mine is likely to for me as well. Anderson was offered over 2 mil for his Mile High Action 1 ungraded.. and he turned it down.. The Mile High Cap 1 is restored... Collectors are hard pressed to sell anything.... One other thing... if the Action #1 9.0 /The Action 1 8.0 and the Tec 27 8.0 could sell at those levels as the second or even third or forth best copies..what does that say for Cap 1 Clearly Cap #1 is the top Timely (marvel) book of all time... Value wise, it looks that way. I still prefer Marvel #1 a the top Timely of all time, no disrespect to your copy. It's pretty. DC print runs were almost double what Timely's were... I can remember when Marvel 1 was the highest sought after book, even over Action 1 and Tec 27. Cap 1 overshadows Marvel 1 now... as cover appeal, in it's historical significance as the U.S. enters WW 2, and because Cap has become Marvel's first real super hero .....not to mention Simon and Kirby invented him... Oh, I understand all of the significance the book represents but for me the 1st Marvel trumps all others. Just my personal opinion.

  9. So the guy isn't scummy because he doesn't dink around with expensive books, only cheap ones? What if he was selling an Action #1 but used a reprint as a stock photo? And solarcadet1 definitely deserves his lumps. If only HOS members could get banned so he wouldn't have to quote me and talk at me every time I make a post he's interested in. +1 I do NOT understand why someone on the HOS is tolerated around here. When we as a community put someone in the HoS, it's like we kicked them off the island in Survivor. Yet the producers have decided to just let them hang around. It's odd. Solarcadet could just FIX THE PROBLEM, and get off the HOS. But he doesn't. He thumbs his nose at this entire community, and nothing happens. Meanwhile...well...best not go down that road. RMA, I tried and did apologize and made right with the seller. The mods own the island not the islanders... I truly do not believe that you fully understand why your actions regarding a few things were more offensive than a monetary issue. When people try to question your behavior you thumb your nose in a way that basically says "FU" to people and that despite that I know that you are dealing through PM with people making transactions with international books. So until that is ever rectified, there are some of us that will never want to deal with you, myself included. It's a forum not the dark side buzzetta... I'm not doing any harm and if I was the mods would intervene. I don't sell international books for profit, I hunt them for fun for whoever wants one. You told people your dad had cancer, only to admit you lied and then apologized and not long after started making fun of concentration camps. You're a tool with zero conscience.

  11. The HOS is meant to prevent people from getting mistreated. I'd say the nomination is valid as Symbiotic is unable to treat people in a respectful manner as shown by his actions over many instances.
  12. I did the same and I had egg on my face for it. Regardless of what people feel about this incident the dude is either a) a few eggs short of a dozen b) a con artist with a few eggs short of a dozen or c) just messing with people for fun. Regardless, he's not trustworthy for one of the above reasons. Remember, I'm the guy that defends nearly everybody.
  13. I look on the bright side, a lot of good came out of it over the time I spent in it. Yup. That thread was a good learning exercise for the forum. Shame it didn't work out but then some people just want to see the world burn. Don't you have a wedding to prepare for hippie? Good luck with everything!! Yup. Final suit fitting was today, making final arrangements, etc. Leaving for Niagara Falls on Fri. And I caught a cold earlier this week.

  15. John Verzyl. I saw the book back in the mid 90's when Al Capp owned it. It is stunning! Is it a ped or file copy? Isn't it the Allentown?
  16. Almost impossible to tell from a scan or pic unless it's a severe case.
  17. Yup. I'm on the list after HarveySwick. he should be on the wedding cake Harvey or Kraven?
  18. Yup. I'm on the list after HarveySwick.
  19. That is a good idea. I will take care of creating something for that. It'll need to be big and signings will need to be smaller to keep room for everyone. We did something like this a few years ago (I believe Ze-man started it). It was a Kamandi comic book in a USPS Box that had a pic of Cap on it. They came to be known as Cap and Mandi and they traveled the world several times over before it ended.
  20. Cap and Mandi all over again! Brilliant idea!
  21. Great book... I was the one who 'bought' the Menace 11 (8.0, Northford.) However, after I paid they decided not to sell it to me. I'm really sorry to hear that. I had a feeling that they were going to do that to me with the Menace #3 as well, considering they pulled the same thing on two of my previous four invoices, so I called them first thing the following morning to make sure that they would run my credit card. I guess I got lucky this time....... I called them the next day as well. First I was told I was all set, and in fact they said I was lucky to be first because they'd had a number of inquiries about the 11. A week or so went by and then I got the 'sorry Charlie' email from them. So I called them. I wasn't happy. And the boys at Metro find it so incredulous that the collecting community considers them such individual_without_enough_empathys. I wonder why Joe Smjekel is consigning all his books to Heritage after buying them off ComicConnect. I'm still waiting for them to relist all their Church copies that Fishler personally promised me he would relist. Happened to me on an Action #14 years ago.
  22. Have this for sale in the GA/SA forum in case anyone is interested. Wonder comics #19 CGC 9.4 OW Wonderful book! Does it get any better than a gorgeous high grade Schomburg airbrush cover with a swash buckling damsel in distress? Highest graded copy tied with the D copy. Asking $2750

  25. How is this spam? I was contacted by a fellow boardie from the US who felt bad for Barrister and asked me if I was close to Guelph and if I could help. I'm offering to help.
