  1. Probably not, but Trey shouldn't have been selling PGX books and lying about it to begin with. It doesn't matter if Joey stuck the book up his arse when he received it. If nobody had purchased the book Trey would still be in the wrong for selling or attempting to sell PGX books. But someone did buy the book. and would have accepted it and not revealed it. That is not an "if" scenario but what actually happened. If this is all supposed to be in support of the community, how would Joey's taking the book and deslabbing it for his collection support the community? It was all a masterful plot to discredit Trey Cannon. You sleuthed him out. He would've gotten away with it if it hadn't been for you meddling kids. Oh, and the next time Trey has a sales thread, load your buggy up. Throw your support and the support of the community behind him. (thumbs u So you consider my proposal that what he did is not PL worthy but instead is HOS worthy to be throwing support to him? How do you figure that? Probation List or Hall of Shame, what difference does it make? Check whatever box makes you feel good and move on. My God, it's like talking to a government worker. I'd like Doc to explain why he thinks Trey is so good at getting sketches? My dad used to have a phrase....smart-stupid. People that acted dumb but in fact were extremely smart and manipulative. I know you read my posts even though you have me on ignore and brendanb438 also asked, so fess up. Is this what you are saying Trey is doing?
  2. BS. He knows exactly what he's doing. Go to a convention and watch him operate his way through Artist's Alley. If I'm wrong about my assessment of him (and I'm happy to be proven so) do you have something to share about him that adds to the discussion?
  3. Posting partial pics of slabs, evading questions and then only to have them be actual CGC graded books? Bio may be a great guy but it was basically entrapment is what it was. It was fun to watch initially in the sense that a joke always gets a rise out of people but unfortunately it was at the expense of some board members which to me wasn't cool.
  4. I agree in the case of the PGX book. It should have been pursued. Trey should have his nuts kicked in for lying about it (if he actually did, I don't remember what was said exactly). As far as other things like the prices of books, those are sensitive subjects with a MYRIAD (I love this word) of variables although the conversation about the subject might be worth discussing IMO. (I put the IMO in there so that Ginger couldn't say I was pontificating... ) (thumbs u
  5. Long story short= An lcs near trey had a lot of marvel keys for sale, Jim 83 Tos 39 etc. Trey took pics of them and 'sold' them on the forums with the hopes of taking the cash and getting a good deal on the lot. It was a very classic epic fail, i wish i could find the threads. Roy 'bought' the jim 83 iirc. Im sure he knows the details better than i Trey listed some books for sale that he didn't own. They were for sale in a local comic shop. I hit the BIN and when it came time to pay and for him to deliver the books, the comic store owner who had the books would not sell them to Trey. The books were real, the comic store owner was real. It was verified by JeBaily and Pinball, two very reputable board members and good people as far as I'm concerned. The store owner apparently is a bit of a character and would not sell the books to people he knew, or something along those lines...only to new customers. Just a strange cat and this hobby is obviously full of them. Trey came on and to save face concocted one of the funniest stories ever to be posted on these boards...I can't even remember the details but something along the lines of his mentally challenged brother preventing him from selling the books. Anyway, Trey was pressed for details as the cross examination of this forum is wont to do and he came to explain that he had made the story up because he was too embarrassed to tell the truth about the local comic store owner. It was actually a pretty tough moment for me. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry for the guy. Anyhow, he cleaned up his act after that for two years. I think we've bought and sold a few books between each other over the years (as did other forum members...he always had the odd selling thread as did I) and I had no reservations about dealing with the guy. I know he bought a few books from me anyway. I'm not saying this to say he's OK to deal with or to vouch for him, I just think he's harmless. At least outwardly. He's more harmful to himself than he is to anyone else. Still, actions have consequences and he absolutely needs to be made aware of that to keep the spirit of the community alive. It just needs to be effective and not punitive. The whole point of a punishment is to teach a person a lesson and hopefully make them a better person. Not to replace shooting mocking birds with a bb gun and pulling the wings off of dragonflys. That's my opinion anyway.
  6. Believe it or not I agree with this entirely.
  7. Heading out to do just that. I'll hug a special one just for you. Does your wife have new shoes yet?
  8. (thumbs u If being stupid enough to buy a book from Trey is enough fodder to add me to the PL feel free to do so. I personally don't think either of you should be probated. You both knew it was a PGX book. Thank you, Richard, POV, Superman2006 and others. I think the entire forum knew it was a PGX book. They certainly knew who and what Trey was. I did. Maybe the entire forum show go on the probation thread for not hitting the mod notify button as soon as the scans were posted. God the law can be so silly. For sakes, people. Puppies are starving, ditches need digging, babies need cooing and coddling and here the forums are traffic jammed on a PGX book. It's simple, include the word PGX in the selling rules, this was learning experience and move on people.
  9. I'll just say that I am not the only board member (in good standing) that sees it "my" way. There do need to be consequences for actions though. I'll let Trey and Joey work it out.
  10. This sounds like a slam. It wasn't meant to. Oh sorry, I didn't realize it was a random comment that just happened to line up precisely with the circumstances of this particular deal. My bad. It was factual and directly related to the discussion at hand. Joey and I have just discussed the entire incident via PM and everything is cool...between me and him, anyway.
  11. The rules were changed a few years ago. Only CGC graded and raw books now. No exceptions.
  12. And therein lies the challenge. I feel the same way. I'd be willing to talk to him about it and lay it out in simple English...or whoever else wants to. Honestly, I think that's all it would take. The other option I suppose is to banish him entirely. Not sure how I feel about that.
  13. I agree completely that he might do something deliberate and unethical again as far as forum guidlines go but would you agree that his motivation is not to scam people? ie. take steal their money? It's the difference between defrauding someone on a large scale like alleybat where he took people's money and ran with it and something as benign as concocting a stupid story when he realized he couldn't get hold of books that he had already sold. Or selling a PGX graded book when he shouldn't have...even though MOST people knew it was a PGX book. I could be wrong but I don't think that if someone was unhappy with what they bought that he wouldn't offer a refund. You mean like if they opened it and kept it after realizing it was a PGX slab? Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking that buyers of PGX slabs be put on probation. My point is just to show how ridiculous some rules can be because they always have more than one implication. Anyhow guys, I don't mean to argue with anyone but I can't help the way I see things. I just felt the need to say my piece. Do as you wish and I'll support whatever the community agrees on the matter. (thumbs u
  14. Fair enough. Every one sees things differently. It's what makes the world go round. With all do respect, you and Trey are the only ones that are seeing things differently. I am sure he appreciates your efforts though. I am not trying to be mean but, that's how I see it. No problem. Understand that I am not saying Trey is innocent, just that I understand why he thought it was ok, that I would have handled the situation differently and that the law cuts both ways. Just like a double edged saw blade.
  15. Fair enough. Every one sees things differently. It's what makes the world go round.
  16. (thumbs u Exactly. I'm not sure why the seller thinks the PM exchange he keeps posting vindicates him? Folks in the thread asked directly if the book was in a PGX slab, and the seller denied it... now it turns out the book was indeed a PGX, so it would seem the seller was knowingly lying about it. In the grand scheme of things, maybe not the end of the world, but not a fellow I'd be in a hurry to do business with either. Guys, the seller is operating on a different psychological and mental level than most others in this thread. Can't you see that by his reaction since this all started? He reacts the wrong way in any situation he is backed into a corner in by doing the opposite of what he should be doing: he digs in deeper. He also responds to polite communication very well. He explained himself as thinking it was "OK" because others had done it on here in the past. He's gotten his slap on the wrist, I'm damn sure a) he's never going to make up a story about his disabled brother in a comic shop ever again b) he's never going to sell a PGX book ever again. I'd put money on it. If you guys want to nominate someone to the Probation thread for selling PGX books then you should also be ready to nominate people who buy PGX books on here. Otherwise, it's just a double standard.
  17. #29 is a typically impossible book in high grade. I sold the second 9.4 about 5 years ago when someone popped my "Buy It Now" on Comiclink within a matter of 2 hours at $1600 (I think). That there are only 3 9.4 copies and 1 9.6 even after all this time is pretty interesting.
  18. Depends on whether it was a recent buy that has been flipped or a long term holder of the book. Recent sales: $50,750 Nov 10 Curator 9.6 W $37,344 Nov 10 9.6 OWW $32,999 May 11 9.6 OWW $31,501 Aug 11 Twin City 9.6 OWW pressed from 9.4 If its the 2nd or 3rd listed above then $28,575 (the amount of the current sale after CL commission) isn't so good. That price seems to be a bit on the low side but generally in-line with recent non-Curator sales. Maybe the Curator sale skewed the perspective a bit (it did for me too, I was expecting a higher result for the Clink book) but if you look at the '11 sales last night's book falls right in-line. What killed the book in Nov 2010 was 3 copies all being auctioned off the same week. Brulato's Curator fetched $50,000 (he upgraded to a 9.8). Then I believe Clink or Pedigree (can't remember which but it was the other site that did not have the Curator for sale) sold a copy for around $35-40,000 and finally the $37,000 copy went on Heritage but it was a brown, not so pretty copy that wouldn't have fetched strong money even if it was the only 9.6 being auctioned off that week. That combination of too many books all ending in one week and the last one being an ugly copy really hurt the DD #1 as far as perception is concerned.
  19. Brian, your JLA 1 is a stunning copy. Congrats. While I am not a player for books in this price range I would like to comment on pricing in general. I prefer to see a relatively firm price rather than a negotiable starting point. I see so many books on Clink with ridiculous asking prices that I hardly look anymore. I agree with you that it is difficult to price books like this. bob, the problem with a realistic "firm" price is that the majority of people still haggle and try to scrape some off the price. I can't tell you how many times I've given somebody a realistic price and they still want a bigger discount. It's unfortunate for the minority who don't like to haggle but that is the reality of it.
  20. JP got in too fast and left too quickly. I heard he wanted to sell off quick because of another huge purchase he was trying to make. Too bad he didn't hang around.
