  1. A couple of questions for the OP: "Since there is apparently no way to know when the finger bends occurred and the book was downgraded because of them, what's the point in getting it pressed at all?" Were you aware of any finger bends before shipping them off? Didn't you say you average 500 books/year going to CGC? Are you aware of any (of those 100's of books) having finger bends beforehand and not having them afterwards?
  2. The Book Stop in Wyoming, MI. It was paperbacks and comics...about 50/50. There were a couple of other stores in town that dealt in comics, but seeing as how I grew up 2 blocks from The Book Stop, that one was my favorite. It was run by an older guy(John) and his two sons (John & Joe). The dad would always save any back issues of DD for me - he knew I was into that comic. For my 13th birthday, in '75, my older sister handed me a box. Inside was a can of Pork -n- Beans, a bottle of Tahitian Treat, and a DD #1. She said she had talked to John about it and he hunted it down for her.
  3. +1 My #1 beef with sellers is sub-par communication (even more than shoddy packing). Talk to me. At the very least, acknowledge my messages.
  4. Sheesh. Four and a half months for MFT? Let's see, if I submit now, I'll get a nice Xmas present later.
  5. I was up in mom's garage a few months ago (that sounds so cliche), and came across an old Horizon Dr Doom kit that I had probably forgot I had shortly after buying it. I remember building the old Horizon Thing (FF) kit and painting it about 5 times trying to get it just right.
  6. Hypothetical...but not really: Let's say I just sold a book for $130. I want to use Paypal's 'print label' option because I heard it's cheaper & more convenient, But I'm one of those anal persons who always insures the package for it's actual value (in this case it would be $130). My question is this...if I choose to 'print label', do I get any insurance?
  7. Easy answer... The seller pretends he's the buyer. What would it take to satisfy him if he was the buyer? Would the responses have been acceptable? How about the frequency of communication? What about the compensation?
  8. Discounted shipping price, automatically loads tracking information. I can't prove it imerically, but I'm pretty sure when I switched to printing the shipping labels through eBay - as apposed to hand writing the address - my packages moved through the postal system a tad faster. I guess that makes it a no-brainer. Chalk me up as a "print label" user. (after I buy some more printer ink)
  9. What are the advantages of using the "print label" option from ebay ... other than saving the 30 seconds it takes to write the address?
  10. Does anyone know at what stage (Received or Verified) CGC charges my credit card?
  11. Just curious ... why doesn't CGC do the "Currently grading books received on _____" thing like they do across the street?
  12. I requested my first cancellation this morning. Nothing to do with buyer's remorse (you don't get much of that when dealing with low-grade books), it just seemed like the bidding was a little on the suspicious side. As I said, this is my first time - do I have to do anything besides sending the buyer a (nice)email? (which I already did) Do I get some kind of notification? ebay ID: mwarner8kma
  13. When this mystery bidder put his last bid in, couldn't he see that my max was $44.41? And then he knows to stop bidding?
  14. It just seems like his goal was to run up the final price. It's not the dollar amount, it's the principle. I may very well be wrong, but it just seems like this bidder's sole intention was to get me ta pay the max. IMO, that's BS.

  16. Begs the question ... what were they thinking?
  17. Just want to chime in here and say that I watched a movie last night called The Ice Storm. One of the characters (Toby Mcguire, I think) was reading a FF comic at the very beginning and got pretty into it. Kinda neat.
  18. I haven't had the pleasure yet to own any new slabs. Is the 1092 inside the 1095 way of packing still doable?
  19. I always send 2 messages... "your book is ready to ship" & "your book shipped". I just do it because I appreciate those messages when I buy. That's just me though, I don't expect every other person on Earth to feel the same way.
  20. IntoAnother - Where's the ebay thread you speak of?
  21. I have an ebay question ... if I'm going back-n-forth with a buyer with an offer, can another buyer come along & buy the item for the BIN price?
  22. I'm not that much into hi-grade for my collection ... usually I don't like to go over 'fine', so it'd be kinda embarrassing to post links. Makes it easier to win auctions when there's not a lot of bidders. Lately I've been buying lots of Star Spangled War Stories. I like dinosaurs.
  23. Has a reason ever been given as to why 9.6s typically don't have grader notes?
