  1. Not exactly sure what you mean by 'serious', but I'm going to assume you just mean someone who loves the hobby. There are certain things I've read/done/bought over the years that I would consider an important part of having comics in my life. (probably too many to remember) First of all, I'm glad I got to know the owner (and employees) of the LCS I frequented as I was growing up. He was actually the first adult friend I had when I was a kid (back in the early70's). Back then you got a lot of eye rolls when people found out you collected comics. It was nice to be around other 'nerds' and feel comfortable. I'm also very happy whenever I see threads here (or on other boards) concerning the best written comic stories. I don't care who you are, you can't know of every book out there - especially when the majority of your life was before there were computers. I think, and this is just my opinion, that the younger you are, the more emphasis you put on the art. Whereas, the older you get, the writing becomes more important. I've found/read so many great stories as a result of those kind of threads. I've also found it immensely informative to read the many books out there dealing with the history of comics. (All topics: publishers, artists, covers art, etc) I just finished rereading this. (I have this in the bathroom ) Even though CGC, et al. isn't essential, I'm glad that I know and understand about them. Without these forums, I'd be scratching my head whenever I saw a graded comic. One last thing (for now) - re: those Gerbers - why wasn't there ever a DC set put out. I'm not really a DC guy, but it'd be nice to know what's out there. Having the 2 sets that were published has definitely impacted my comic collecting. Mike ps - We've all heard it a thousand times, but the most essential part of this hobby is to collect what you like.
  2. That's exactly how I do it, and I charge $12.00 shipping in my listings. If it costs a little less, I refund the difference - if it costs a little more, I eat it. (It's usually within a couple of bucks either way.)
  3. Anybody have any experience with this? I realize it has no affect on the comic, but it's rather unsightly.
  4. I was able to afterwards. I think I went to "see details".
  5. My 2-book value submission... Received - 6/9/17 Verified - 8/8/17 Scheduled For Grading - 8/14/17 Graded - 8/15/17 Grading/Quality Control - 8/16/17 Shipped/Safe - 8/17/17
  6. My 2-book value submission... Received - 6/9/17 Verified - 8/8/17 Scheduled For Grading - 8/14/17 Graded - 8/15/17 Grading/Quality Control - 8/16/17
  7. I tried, didn't work. Kept saying that I needed 15 books.
  8. ebay id = brosene I won an auction on 7/20/17. Guy never shipped the book nor answered any of my messages. He pulled the same stunt on another dude who won a different auction on the same day. Ebay refunded my money. Never heard a word from this joker. edit: I was going to leave a neg, but apparently you can't after opening a case. (shrug: live & learn)
  9. My 2-book value submission... Received - 6/9/17 Verified - 8/8/17 Scheduled For Grading - 8/14/17 Graded - 8/15/17
  10. I always hear horror stories about UPS or Fedex, but I've never had a problem of any sort with either of them.

  12. Nothing I hate worse than being left in the dark.
  13. I have a Value submission sitting at received since 6/9.
  14. Verified? Please tell me you meant received. I have some Value tier been sitting at "received" since 6/9.
  15. If someone with a non-payment strike bids on one of my auctions, can I tell?
  16. When I was a kid, it seemed like the grades were only Good/Fine/Mint. Then, after I stopped buying comics, I came across this book that explained the 1-100 grading scale. I thought, "What..." Then, some time later, the 1-100 grading scale was replaced with a 1-10 scale. Again, I thought, "What..." Then I noticed these comics encased in plastic with a numerical grade in the corner. Once again, I thought, "What..." My point, changes are nothing new and will probably always be.
  17. I believe setting a max with a sniping program eliminates the chance to be outbid by the bidders that valiantman described (those who contemplate upping their max at the end of the auction).
  18. re: bidding up in small increments. Andy (or anyone) - Do you know why people do this? I've often wondered why, but can't figure it out.
  19. Same problem. I just tried to submit a couple of Value and it wouldn't let me due to the 15 book minimum. I guess I'll just take the time to call.
  20. Am I reading this correctly? Fast Track Value = $37 Slow Economy = $38 So you're paying a buck less for Fast Track Value but the books get done quicker? https://www.cgccomics.com/submit/services-fees/
