  1. Back when I started collecting as a teenager, I couldn't afford any of the big keys, so I built a collection from discount boxes. Plenty of the books I picked up that ways are still discount bin fodder, but plenty also got hot at some point. I think all of my Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars issues came from discount bins. The Rocket Raccoon mini and Logan's Run 6 (first Thanos solo story) are just a couple others off the top of my head I can think of.
  2. I imagine unconnected, unless they had a press that also was doing the bindery. Or you want to consider the "connection" general lack of upkeep in a facility that leads to errors?
  3. I'd actually prefer that, if I got to pick what sort of error my slab would have. I was the owner of an upside down Silver Surfer book, and I sold it at a premium compared to copies that were properly encapsulated in the same grade, because the owner of a Silver Surfer collection wanted it as an oddity for his collection.
  4. It's like claiming that covid numbers are decreasing because you reduced testing for it.
  5. That's what they want. From their release: Mechanical errors will continue to be a declining percentage of overall submissions, not because their QC has improved, but rather because they're claiming that their flawed product is acceptable. And now they're going to have all of their customers wondering if they're going to be dinged for the shipping when they send their books back.
  6. If I've reached my limit in negotiations as either a seller or buyer, I'll just send the same offer that was previously sent, if the other party replied with a different figure. That should make it clear I'm done negotiating.
  7. I imagine that his laws of motion are getting a little more play than our discussion of rings.
  8. This is a good example that needs a response from CGC
  9. Are they though? While personally I don't have a huge issue with Newton rings, some people do, and they used to cover those for a reholder, but they're no longer doing so. The question arises what other flaws are no longer covered. The answer to that question is as crystal clear as their cases with Newton rings. So if you ship back books that you think qualify and they don't, they're going to bang you for the shipping cost both ways.
  10. How much do you want to bet, assuming that they actually follow through with shipping stuff out, that they didn't flip the original books for more than the pre-order when the market exploded, and now they're rebuying at cheaper prices to send out now that the market has softened.
  11. Keep in mind that Amazing Spider-man is one of the most collected comics out there. So even with speculation down, you're probably not going to see a big dip. Who knows, you might actually see more attention, as people look away from the hot book of the week and into tried-and-true books to collect.
  12. I just found this book as I was preparing books to sell. A second cover in the centerfold. Do you think CGC would still grade this the same way as a normal double cover?
  13. If you're asking about the $134 sale, that's the 2004 reprint that was distributed as part of the promotion for the first Punisher movie. https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/4195876001/
  14. Another non-paying auction winner: lastb-59
  15. Of course, some pricy books from the last few decades are expensive because very few people expected them to go up in value (think: Newsstand editions, reprints, preview books, etc.). DC spec has been dead for some time, so I wouldn't be surprised if they put together a good slot of movies and people start paying a lot more attention to the books. That said, it'll probably only be key first appearances that really end up being worth the storage space (assuming you're only holding onto them for the potential of price appreciation, and not because you want them in your collection).
  16. I'm assuming eBay made you pay for the shipping?
  17. You know, I didn't realize that this was delayed. When I saw that it was heating up I was kicking myself for slowing down on Star Wars speccing. But I just checked and it looks like I did pre-order some.
  18. The scores for Static #44 (DC/Milestone) are significantly lower than all of the surrounding issues. https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SlotScoreDetail.aspx?SlotID=249701 Score adjusted per request, that was another typo, heh.

  20. There is a forum specifically for the registry. Post this over there and someone can fix it. They won't see it here.
  21. Last 9.8 SS Ennis/Robertson sold in 2020 for $875. Last year a copy signed by Ennis only sold for about $900. I'd figure at around $1000 right now. There have been sales of signed copies close to 1400, but those were signed by cast members of the show, so figure the cost of getting their sigs is baked into that price.
  22. Considering submission rates seem to have dropped (based on greatly reduced TAT) and they're raising prices, I imagine prices will continue to go up so income keeps up with expenses. You would think they'd give more time before the new prices go into effect if they're looking to boost submissions.
  23. How do the staples look? A lot of the Nintendo books have rusted staples.
  24. Since Venom properly is Eddie and the symbiote bonded, arguably 298 is just a cameo of Eddie, not Venom. Mostly the last page is Eddie talking, and only at the very end do we see the symbiote slide over him, but we can't say for sure if they're fully bonded. Still a must-have for a Venom collector, I think, but questionable whether you can consider it a first for Venom.
