  1. The guy who lifted Mjolnir and is smashing through the title!
  2. Time will tell. It is, after all, like any hobby - value is based on perception. Your comic icon is proof positive of that.
  3. It is all personal preference. Some stay exclusively with Golden, or Silver, or Bronze etc... As to the "value" of Moderns, variant covers are the lucrative aspect of this period of collecting. The artist, character and rarity are all factors. I believe some will hold their value, others not so much. You don't, however, have to wait years and years to flip some of them. The Watcher count on many high-priced items on Ebay alone indicates strong interest. I personally have an interest in Silver/Bronze and Modern. I have 9.8's of various stable issues (eg. ASM #129, GSXM #1, IH #181) but have also invested in some Modern variant gems, such as Moon Knight #1, Thanos #13 etc. Each to their own.
  4. I hear what you are saying but the sellers' comments to myself as the buyer say something about their plight.
  5. Sure. They go hand in hand. Those that need to sell, and those that can buy.
  6. I suppose it depends on location. My packages to the US always seem to get there quickly. It then slows down once relying on internal US post.
  7. Check out the prices - you may have some gems. The way to do it these days, however, is to purchase e-copies for reading and only purchase hard copy variants for investing.
  8. Yes, there has been a lot of demand for Spawn back issues. If you are lucky enough to have a variant of #1 or #185 you could do quite well.
  9. It's a real buyer's market at present. All sorts of gems appearing. People need $$$.
  10. In other news I'd say the economic downturn is really hitting home for some - a number of Walking Dead #1 in 9.8 are appearing. Someone is even trying to sell the Danger Girl #2 Ruby Red variant for almost 10K. It's still not worth that much (I'd say $6K), but if you are cashed up at present you could negotiate some good deals.
  11. I've always avoided any SW variants as I feel that people can suddenly just go off that universe. The only exception I'd make is for the 35c variant of #1.
  12. That's why Amazing Fantasy #15, Fantastic Four #1 and Hulk #1 don't exist in 9.8.
  13. You have good taste. I purchased the MK #1 in the same grade about two months ago. I must look at the WD issue.
  14. Galactus is there? He would be the top grade in every tier! I do like the Heroclix method of dealing with the character: it's a 'Special Rules apply" situation whereby the heroes have to team up and only have so many rounds in which to drive him off Earth.
  15. Well, ask and ye shall receive. Many thanks. I appreciate it.
  16. Since we are currently talking about collectibles on the Beanie Baby thread, does anyone remember the following super-hero card set released in the 70s? It was a pack featuring almost all the major heroes (some like the Silver Surfer and Sub-Mariner were missing) with power rankings for each. There were something like 4 different grades, with 3 of them being (from memory) Strength, Intelligence and Weapons. The back of each card was blue with an image of Mephisto's head. What was interesting was that it was obvious even to a child reader that whoever wrote the description for each character knew nothing about them. For example, Yellowjacket was called "Hornet" and the Moondragon entry she gained her powers from the Moon. Thor was rated the most powerful (with 100 in each category) except in the Weapons category, which apparently only went to 46 (Captain Marvel had the highest rating, with Thor at 45). The illustrations were simple lifts of famous shots of the characters from the comics, but they were very detailed and very colourful. Any ideas?
  17. Sorry to hear that. I have a private mailbox at my local Post Office. There's no way anyone else is touching an expensive purchase until I'm ready to sell it.
  18. Heh. I wonder if anyone out there has been burgled, with the offender only taking some petty cash, jewelry, CDs etc and not touching comics, Funko Pops etc worth far more than their getaway car? "Whew. They only got my wife's CDs and that ugly brooch her grandmother left her. They ignored my collection - thank God!"
  19. Just by the by, while collectors aren't made of plastic, they too have a limited shelf life...
  20. Beautiful set. https://www.ebay.com/itm/MARVEL-SUPER-HERO-CUP-CHECK-LIST-7-11-SLURPEE-CUPS-PROFESSIONALLY-MATTED-Eleven/111584850905?hash=item19faf9b3d9:g:MHMAAOSwxYxUyBUb There are in fact 60 in all.
  21. Hmmm...X-Men #94 a mere $70. Affordable even by early 80's standards. And there are discounts for multiple purchases. Begins building time machine...
