  1. Once Off Guard by J.H. Wallis Popular Library No. 385 1951 $35 SOLD to johnenock Basis for the 1944 film noir "Woman in the Window" - a scarce book in any edition and this is a very nice high grade copy with great uncredited cover art. VF minus/VF Has a hairline reader crease and light indent on back cover, that's about it!
  2. Burmese Days by George Orwell Popular Library No. 459 1952 $12 SOLD to Goldust40 Nice GGA cover art in the style of Barye Phillips but uncredited. Pretty racy back cover blurb, Orwell didn't shy from controversy. In nice shape with some spine stresses and an odd bindery flaw, one page was bound out of sync and sticks out a little (not loose, very tight in the binding)
  3. I guess it's a George Mayers kind of day... Jasmine Street by Clifford Dowdey Popular Library Giant G119 1953 $15 SOD to Goldust40 Beautiful GGA cover from the great period at Popular when they put art on the front and back. Mayers signature on the back cover art At 480 pages, this is truly a Giant of a book. Very hard to find these fat volumes in such nice shape. Has a light crease on upper front and a bit of edgewear. Incredible whites on that phat spine (pictured)
  4. The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux Dell Books No. 24 1943 $30 A classic horror with ghostly Gerald Gregg cover art. Slightly smaller "Giant Eyeball" logo, still much larger than on later numbers. Mapback of the Paris Opera House Tight with great color. Has spine slant, a few creases and wear at upper right of the back cover.
  5. The Lone Wolf by Joseph Louis Vance Dell Books No. 10 1943 $15 SOLD to Goldust40 Gerald Gregg Art Deco cover art with the "Giant Eyeball" logo, much larger than on later numbers, and a nice mapback of Paris These first 10 Dells have such a great "Golden Age" feel to them, and are pretty tough to find not trashed. This one is square and tight, with light creasing and some waviness to the pages from old moisture exposure.
  6. Avon Ghost Reader Avon No. 90 1946 $20 SOLD to Goldust40 That "Hand"! Early original Avon collection featuring Lovecraft's "Dunwich Horror" and other ghostly greats A super solid copy with great color and pages. Has creases on the cover but they barely break any color. Much better than usual for this one.
  7. Little Caesar by W.R. Burnett Avon No. 66 1945 $35 Great cover art by pulp star, Paul Stahr. Re-used on the comic book Lucky Luciano and Murder, Inc. Square and tight without creases. Has staining to the bottom of the book, pages are browning and chipping at the edges. All that said, it's still a nice looking copy of a tough "Stone Cold Classic"
  8. The Neon Wilderness by Nelson Algren Avon No. 424 1952 $75 SOLD to Godust40 Famous Ray Johnson street walker cover, re-used on the Avon comic Intimate Confessions No. 1. This is the second numbering of the book with the great blurb at the top added (and laminated) No annoying creases, tight and complete with some page uneveness. Light wear to base of spine. Super glossy with near perfect lamination. A nice looking copy of a book that has become very tough.
  9. The Divine Passion by Vardis Fisher Pyramid R419 1959 $35 Spectacular Bob Maguire cover on this. Always considered a classic - I could look at it for days Square tight and bright with minimal creasing. Has some edgewear and staining to the bottom page edges. Bone white pages!
  10. The Big Fake by Murray Forbes Pyramid No. 97 1953 $25 SOLD to Goldust40 Classic Marilyn Monroe cover art, probably by George Gross A nice copy but "William Weiland" stamped his name around the page edges and on the first page. Does not affect the great art at all.
  11. The Creepers by John Creasey Avon No. 563 1954 $15 "Creepy" Al Rossi GGA cover art on this pretty little Avon Square, tight and glossy with just a little wear to the corners.
  12. The Damon Runyon Story by Ed Weiner Popular Library No. 220 1950 $20 SOLD to Goldust40 Literally flaming hot Earle K. Bergey Good Girl cover art on this one Fine Plus Square and tight with nice color. Has a spine crack in the middle that doesn't detract much at all
  13. Eastern Shame Girl Avon No. 127 1947 $15 SOLD to TheComicsPreacher Nice bargain copy of one of the great early Avons with the classic George Mayers cover art. The last of the Avon "Picture Frame" covers Worn at the head of the spine, some light creasing and a couple of small color flecks.
  14. Turn of the Table by Jonathan Stagge Popular Library No. 267 August 1950 $25 Great Belarski GGA cover art on this quasi-sci-fi "Vampire" murder tale. Tough to grade - pages are a bit warped but covers are pretty nice with some light creasing. Great colors.
  15. Home Is The Hangman by Richard Sale Popular Library No. 205 1949 $25 SOLD to Goldust40 Gorgeous Belarski cover art on this one Fine/Fine Plus Front cover is nice - has some wear on the back. An attractive copy overall

FLYNN (aka JAY FLYNN) The Hot Chariot 1960 $20 SOLD to Goldust40 Sweet Bob Maguire cover on The Hot Chariot. 19. The one rule I promised the wife about my collection overflow is that I will always be able to push it all into the closet and close the door, since our playroom doubles as a guest room occasionally. Well, I've bought several hundred paperbacks already this year and there's no way that door is going to close unless I sort through them and sell some books so there's this thread now. I'm going to start with mysteries and good girls but have a nice collection of science fiction and comic related stuff to show later as well. I've been buying selling and trading Vintage pb's since the Hancer Price Guide came out back in the 80's. Been on Ebay since 1998 with 100% positive feedback. I tend to grade paperbacks in the manner of current pulp grading: Poor/Fair/Good/Very Good/Fine/Very Fine I'm a high grade collector so my books are almost all Very Good and better if they're available in those grades. Many pre-1960 books just aren't available in high grade often so I try to find solid Good-Very Good ones if I can. The rules for this thread are: -No HoS or Probation list buyers -I will ship to Canada but will have to quote shipping options. -Payment via Venmo or Paypal preferred. I also can do Zelle although it is a bit more of a pain to do. -Shipping via USPS Media Mail for $4 or Priority Small Box for $11 for the continental United States. More than one book I will ship at the least extra cost practicable. Shipping for Canada will be quoted. -First in the thread wins and prevails over pm offers -Returns accepted for 14 days after delivery but please let me know asap if you are unhappy for any reason and I will make it right. I do miss things occasionally. Feel free to pm with offer or questions. I'm always open to reasonable package offers.
