8 hours ago, Robot Man said:Great photos. I especially like the last one of Lamont with Jon Berk. It must have been quite the thrill for Jon.
I have always wondered what Lamont thought about this. Did he think we were all crazy? It goes without saying that he was probably blown away with the prices people were paying for his books.
Did he have a favorite character or book? Or was it just a forgotten part of his past?
Must have been fun to talk to him,
Jon had another engagement that night, and rushed over late in the evening, just catching Lamont as he and his family were getting ready to leave.
Lamont didn’t think we were crazy. I think he was pleased that his collection was appreciated by collectors. We didn’t talk about value all that much, although I do remember telling him that each one of his books was worth more than he’d paid for ALL of his books.
One of the articles about him said Batman was favorite character. He liked “high adventure” more than humor books.
It was very fun talking to him. He was just an ordinary guy who grew out of comics just before WW2, went to college, got married, raised a family, and influenced thousands of kids as a teacher. He just missed WW2, by the way, turning 18 in June of 1945.

I knew this was coming, but it was still very tough news to hear. So I said a few words for Lamont.

Yep, that was mine. Cover purchased off eBay, interior from Comiclink. The cover is unrestored, and gorgeous. It was the interior that brought the grade down to 8.0. If someone switched the interior for a nicer one, that book would be a conserved 9.2/9.4.

I picked these up over the last 18 months as filler copies until I could find them in higher grades, but the credit card balance is creeping up, so I’m letting them go.
These are priced at my exact cost, to the penny, so I will not be accepting offers on these books. Sorry!
Shipping is $18 to the continental U.S. Exact shipping cost to anywhere else.
No returns on CGC books. No sales to those on the funky list.

Clearly, I need to sell this book to The Canadian so he can sell it to someone on the boards.

Just one book today, but it’s spectacular. Classic cover. First appearance of The Shade. White pages.
Shipping is on me. No returns on certified books.
Front cover presents MUCH nicer than the assigned grade.

I'm going to predict right around $800k for the Detective 27.
The seller turned down 750K years ago. I'm sure they're expecting a higher hammer price.
